He can't be THAT far in. I mean, he was there when Skyhold was getting spruced up. If any character was going to be last in line for recruitment, it'd be either Bull or Viv. Moreover Viv considering she's a high ranking official and she throws you a party. You'd have to build a little bit of influence to get that kind of welcome.

Except Vivienne was there in the Skyhold video too (everybody except Bull and Solas were shown IIRC), so it's clearly not indicative of the order in which companions are acquired. (I wouldn't be surprised if they cheated, enabling all of them just for the purpose of showing the place off.)
 

Level 5 isn't really that low, based on the previous games.

Especially when the soft cap is 20.

It's possible that Dorian is tied to the main plot and doesn't come up as early as some of the other companions (who are perhaps optional or less integral), but as noted, it's also possible that Cameron just cheated in the companions or chose to acquire those specific ones earlier (while ignoring the others whose introduction quests were available).

True. I've been comparing the lvl 5 Dwarf at Haven-as-base to Laidlaw's lvl 12 Human with Skyhold half way done. But we really have no idea how quickly one get's to lvl 5. But in vague story progression, if we are lvl 5 and have not even gotten Skyhold yet, it's possibly early in the story. But it is possible getting Skyhold is like getting the Amell Estate, and by then you're well into the story.

 

Also skyhold's progression seems to be more linked to crafting, rather than story progression? I mean there are a LOT of crafting materials to pick up as you go through the world. (It pains me when I watch people play and they don't pick up everything in sight. I'm never going to make it through this game lol)

Actually, they were all there. Except now I can't remember if we saw Sera. But Bull was at the tavern and they mentioned Solas was at the end of a corridor they passed.

 

I still think the order of recruitment will be mainly up to the players and which places and missions we decide to do first.

If we're comparing to the other two games, level 5 would be approximately Tower of Ishal/Flemeth's hut and very early/mid Act 1 respectively.

That's ludicrously early in of both games.

I'm guessing DA:I's storyline isn't as linear as say ME3

In addition   Bioware isn't adding DLC companions in DA:I because all the companions are integral to the story, and thus would be difficult to add

I think Dorian is recruited around Redcliffe, don't quote me on that, and Redcliffe is visited, I think, very early in the game

I don't know about that. I didn't get Oghren until almost the end of the game, but I think they would steer away from that super late recruitment with Dorian, especially since he does seem important to the main plot.

Lmao I'm playing it right now, I just got Zevran and I've only been to the Circle GEEZ hahahaha

I think it depends on whether or not you go to Orzammar early enough for it to be early enough

I don't think so? I mean, it's true that I'm bi, and it's also true that I love me some ass, but I think that's a coincidence. I do think there are papers out there that shows that there's a correlation with facial features a person finds attractive and sexual orientation, but it's pretty weak

There were quite a few map markers, so I think the order we get companions will probably be for the most part up to us. One of those was probably Dorian's intro.

I am of the view that DA:I will be like ME2, so while he might a "later" pick up, he can be a pretty early late pick up, if you get what I mean.

I do not think the streams are any indication on when a companion is recruitable.  Sometimes they make specific builds for demos/streams that enable all companions to be open.  That's just a guess on my part.
