If the game with Cullen is any indication, he really can be overconfident at times. If I were looking to hire him in real life, that's a huge red flag. Overconfidence in personal life has its charm, but when a team is relying on his ability to accurately predict his performance, it's a liability.

Fortunately, since this is a game, I can RP an inquisitor that says "sure, I believe you can take those guys on," then immediately whispers "we'll need at least 3 squads of backup" to the advisors.

 

I somehow think that he loses the game with Cullen on purpose.  Cause winning the game might not be the purpose but winning the man is. You know men can get frustrated upon a game he cannot win and refuse to play.

Pretty sure the main reasons people would "hate" Dorian would be more plot-relevant than pro-slavery (if it is true that is). 

 

You're more likely to see hate him for:

 

1) Being a Tevinter Mage

2) Being "a gay" and having him hit on male PCs.

 

Don't forget "he's too obvious/flamboyant" or "he talks about his sexuality too much" or "he's just a token character being shoved down our throats" or "he's only in the game because Bi-oware is now pandering to the social justice warriors"

 

*too much being two minutes at the end of a long conversation about why he left Tevinter, in a game when he has hours of other dialogue

I am 99% sure he's only playfully teasing Cullen...

 

The alternative would be that he's trying to woo him for reals, and I've had about enough of creepy gay characters who can't or won't respect boundaries. 

 

I doubt they'd write him like that anyway.

Dorian kind of makes me picture magical Tony Stark. He's funny and snarky, and he wants to change the world, but the guy is arrogant, overconfident, and can be something of an acquired taste.

I don't think it's been said if there have been any female Archons. 

 

It's funny though, I was reading the codex about the Imperial Chantry in Origins the other day and it never actually says that only men can be priests... it says that men can join the priesthood in addition to women.

 

In all of Tevinter's history there have surely been female Archons at some points, but for the games' time period it does highlight the difference between the two Chantries more dramatically if one is lead by a man and one by a woman.

 

(Actually, I reckon most of the Black Divines would have been women. That's still the orthodoxy in southern Thedas, and we have to assume that it's supported or encouraged somehow by Andraste's teachings or some pretty influential theologians.)

^ Yeah I was conflating Archon with Black Divine anyway. I thought it was like a medieval Muslim Caliph but it's probably more like HREmperor establishing an anti-pope. According to the wiki the Archon can be male or female, even though the list it gives seems to be purely/largely male. As for the Black Divine... Tevinter likes to point out that it never fell to the armies of Andraste, that it accepted the religion for comepltely different reasons, to me it seems like they might purposefully choose a male Black Divine as a sort of '**** you, we do what we want' to the South.

I really hope we get to see (or even play in) Tevinter in DA4. I'm terribly fascinated by it, especially after reading the comics.

Totally understand though. I'm going to disconnect from the forums myself soon enough. Some tweets suggested they are upping the DAI coverage til release and I don't want to spoil more areas. I didn't even watch the last stream.

I feast on spoilers for dinner.  Otherwise I wouldn't be on the board at this point.     Anywho, I do hope the ending stays secret till release though.  It seems like the leak before ME3 came out did it no favors.

I don't seek out major spoilers (I'll go dark on launch), but neither do I go out of my way to avoid them. Studies actually show that reading spoilers beforehand slightly increases the subject's enjoyment of the work.

So, in the worst case, if I happen to stumble on a big spoiler, it'll make me enjoy the game more. I think I can live with that.

Sorry about that. I erased that section from my post. The area count thing was from early on when they were discussing the whole multi-region open-world thing, so I didn't even think of it as a spoiler. It's also possible that it's actually not accurate anymore.

Part of me wants to discover the areas and progress my Inquisitor's romance with Dorian on my own...but the other part wants to have the "ultra-uber-all-the-bells-and-whistles" strategy guide handy to make sure I don't miss something important in an area...or any conversations with Dorian (although I thought I saw romantic responses having the heart icon as in DAII).

So an announcement on how many areas there are is a spoiler (something they said months if not a year ago), but the identity of a major companion and love interest some how isn't worth your spoiler outrage? This whole thread is a giant spoiler, something as minuscule as the number of areas does not deserve your reaction.
