He believes in Andraste and the Maker, we've seen religious references in some of his dialogue from E3. 

 

I think he'll see it as too lenient towards the excesses of the magisters (especially given that the Black Divine is also the Archon), but at the end of the day it is a church in the same way as the southern Chantry is. Unless he's a die-hard theologian who wants to chat about the finer points of the Chant of Light, I don't really see it coming up all that much in conversation.

 

Being in a fantasy setting does not excuse it. 

 

Why not?

 

Either the fantasy is different to Earth, or it's not. People invoke "it's a fantasy setting" all the time as a reason why Thedas is - for a medieval setting - 'progressive' in terms of women's rights and acceptance of LGBT people; you can't very well turn around and ask for realism in eye colour of all things with the justification that fantasy worlds have to accurately depict real races.

 

Real races don't exist in Thedas. Dorian is from Tevinter. Nobody knows what a person from Tevinter is supposed to look like, because they're not real.

 

If Dorian is a brown-skinned man with blue eyes, it's because brown people in Thedas apparently can have blue eyes. There is no vast conspiracy to give him a different eye colour because someone at EA sat down and decided he looked too Indian.

 

I think this whole argument is extremely silly.

Interesting! In that list, the hair/eye distributions seem to be inverted, at least for brunettes and blonds. Only redheads (Sebastian, Aveline, Oghren, Leliana) match the expected distribution.

Unless I'm mistaken, Velanna is the only blond on that list that doesn't have brown or hazel eyes.

From a representation standpoint, I love to see some color scrambling. If the Caucasian side of my family had light eyes, I could very well have ended up with dark skin and light eyes. I know mixed-race people are still relatively rare - my parents have gotten screamed at for holding hands, forms say "choose only one" for race, and for some reason "interracial" is still considered a fetish in porn - but we do exist. And we'd probably exist in greater numbers in a land that only has fantasy racism.

Saying that people can't have mixed features sounds, to me, like saying there shouldn't be bi characters because bi characters are a way of making gay people seem more palatable. No - if there's a problem with gay representation, that should be fixed, but fixing it shouldn't mean making every bi character gay, because bi people exist too.

Likewise, fixing racial representation shouldn't mean taking out people with obviously mixed features. It should involve adding people like Isabela, Josie, Vivienne, and Cassandra (Cassandra's features read as Chinese or Korean to me) alongside people that have mixed features.

I understand the over-representation of eye colours in a videogame. After all, people want unrealistic fantasy. That's the whole point.

From what I remember, Vivienne had brown eyes an earlier point and then blue in another trailer. In the latest teaser, however, her eyes appear to be a dark color, possibly brown. Although that could be the dark lighting in the scene.

Either way, until there is confirmation from a dev then we won't know with absolute certainty about D's eyes. I'm still pumped for him either way.

There's supposed to be SOMETHING coming out this Thursday, according to people who have closer access, such as Ladyinsanity on tumblr. She mentions the world breaking this Thurs but doesn't say definitively that it is a trailer. Very exciting!

Yeh I know I've already read through the discussion on here about how/when Dorian appears - I'm not /concerned/ at how he hasn't been shown a lot in the early game, I just want to have lots of time with him! As long as he appears within the first quarter of the game, I'll be happy. I have a feeling he might be the last companion to show up though..

What would be neat is if we could customize our companions eye color.  Contacts for the win!  Sure it won't happen, but one can dream.  I would love to have the option of switching to Dorian's golden eye look for sure.

But theoretically... it would've been interesting if we could change it somewhat, because it's not like people's appearance set in stone, why not grow a beard or a hair? Get some scars? Eye colour is a different matter but maybe there's something that could explain it too? Like blood magic,lol.

Just to nit-pick, but that's not true - in fact, it's specifically prohibited:

 

"Archons are technically part of the magisters and used to be elected from the ranks of the Magisterium but since the Black Age this practice changed and no member of the Imperial Chantry or a magister can become an Archon." Dragon Age Wiki

I'm honestly hoping for something about Tevinter and the Imperial Chantry, especially with an Elven Inquisitor - or a Qunari for that matter. A little bit of religious drama might be interesting, and I'd like to know more about Tevinter, especially from someone who's lived it all their life.

Implying that the Inquisitor didn't know what they were before they met Dorian

If the scene from the Enemies trailer was Dorian's recruitment quest, then it seems to be interlinked to the central plotline. Given that he has valuable knowledge of the Venatori and its association to the Elder One, it's doubtful that his role will be trivial.

I also think that Dorian seems to be the first person who tells us about the Elder One, based on the trailers.

 

That surely can't be too far into the game.
