Remember Kaidan? Never say never...
Kaidan wasn't gay. Kaidan was bisexual.

Yeah, they didn't make Kaidan gay. Not really the same thing.

Right... I had misread the other post. xd
I think there's a good chance that Cullen will be the bi option, but I'd just as soon it was DHMG, I guess. I mean, for the girls that want to romance him, although I guess I'm not doing the ones that want Solas any favors by wishing hetero on Cullen in this case. ![]()
Yeah, they didn't make Kaidan gay. Not really the same thing.
Yeah, did they ever really specify companion's sexualites in game in ME3?
It seems liked you'll be told in Inquisition who swings which way.
It might be premature to only think they're doing one bi or gay option.
Just putting that out there. We're in uncharted territory for the DA series to even have exclusively f/f and m/m companions, and at this point I see no reason to assume there'll only be [x] number of characters who swing [y] ways. We have next to no idea how this is going to work.
"2/2/2" is speculation, not confirmed, remember.
I don't really see us having more than 6 LIs from a resource perspective, though, and 2/2/2 is the only fair distribution for 6. I'll be happy with more LIs, too, but I'm having a hard to seeing it happen.
I miss playersexuality already.
Same. ![]()

The resources are already being allocated in a different way from Origins or DA2, though, by even having m/m and f/f LIs, not to mention LIs that aren't companions.
I'm just saying that assuming hard limits on the number of gay or bi characters is a bit premature at this point, given that we have absolutely no idea how it will work.
Well, it's possible. I'll be really happy if they can pull off more LIs than I'm expecting, as long as they're balanced on the gender/sexuality spectrum and the content doesn't suffer too much from the amount. It would be great if that happened. Just not sure I'm expecting it as.. very likely.
I think he is gay option only because he is too pretty.
I both miss it and I don't.I miss playersexuality already.

Aaaaaaaaand here we go...

I know alot of strait guys who are pretty, care about fashion and the way they look. Being pretty dosnt mean he is gay, you can never be sure of someones sexuallity until he shere it with you. I would actually find it more intersting if Iron Bull will be the m/m romace, just because he dosent look like the stereotyp of a gay person. But this is not really the subject of this thread.
Point is I'm a "real life" lady and I would love to romance him and since there are alot of gay people who would love to romance him too, I hope that he is the bi option so everybody can have some DHMG love ![]()

The fact that this is the message that started the new page makes me laugh a little, quite honestly.
I, personally, will not be devastated if it turns out I can't romance Dorian with a Fem!Quizzy. I'll be a little disappointed, but I can always make a separate playthrough with a Male!Quizzy. I'll just engage in fervent moustache-worshipping from afar and enjoy his character platonically in the meantime. This is this sort of thing that caused me to like DA: II's approach so much in the first place, actually, but eh. C'est la vie.
What don't you miss about it?
I mean, I am more interested in the set sexualities because it gives the writers the ability to talk about sexuality in a more meaningful way, which, in my opinion, is more important to me than having all options open to me. I am so f*cking excited to get a fully gay companion that can actually talk about his sexuality within the context of Thedas.

I've very interested in finding out if they comment on the reaction from other people about their sexuality, since it's never been commented on before. The role it plays in society etc.

Exactly. And I am so damn excited for this!
It's so easy in cases like these to just look at a character and say: "I think he looks straight/gay/bi" for whatever reason just because you want him to be so.
I personally want him to be straight/bi, because I always play a femChara, but I wouldn't be surprised either if my desires were snatched from my hands. Literally. Maybe because I'm just being pessimist.
Besides, I've never romanced a guy with a 'stache before. It's uncharted territory . . . .

David recently said "[having exclusively lesbian/gay characters] allows us to tell more types of character stories without having to resort to ambiguity. Those stories exist for players who don’t romance the characters as well, and that’s also important."
This makes me think 'set sexualities' will be part of a companion's general story (to whatever small or large extent), not just something that comes up if you romance them. The comparison with Carth Syndrome or Steve's husband might end up being appropriate, although I hope they can find a more elegant way of phrasing it. Bioware have said a few times at conventions that LGBT content should be present in the game world outside of optional romances; that is to say the player should expect to encounter it even if they don't engage in an s/s relationships.
I don't think this sort of thing is entirely unprecedented, though, since both Zevran's and Leliana's sexualities were integral parts of their lives and work before joining the Warden, and I'm pretty sure both bring it up when explaining their backstory regardless of whether the player initiated a romance.
Regarding companions' reactions to other people's reactions to their homosexuality, World of Thedas said that the prevailing attitude in Thedas is apathy rather than stigmatisation. so I doubt there's much scope for characters to wax lyrical about oppression (and that would be a bit of a downer anyway):
Typically, one's sexual habits are considered natural and
separate from matters of procreation, and only among the nobility, where procreation involves issues of inheritance and theunion of powerful families, is it considered of vital importance.Yet, even there, a noble who has done their duty to the familymight be allowed to pursue their own sexual interests withoutraising eyebrows. The view on indulging lusts with a member of the same gendervaries from land to land. In Orlais, it is considered a quirk ofcharacter and nothing more. In Ferelden, it is a matter of scandal ifdone indiscreetly but otherwise nothing noteworthy. In Tevinter,it is considered selfish and deviant behavior among nobles, butactively encouraged with favored slaves. Nowhere is it forbidden, and sex of any kind is only considered worthy of judgment whentaken to awful excess or performed in the public eye.
Tevinter is specifically relevant to DHMG if he ends up both being Dorian and an s/s LI, since that seems to be the country in which (upper class) lesbian or gay people have the worst treatment. There might be a eugenics angle there relating to the necessity of breeding more mages (and the 'selfishness' of not having children), or some kind of Confucian family ethics, I don't know.
^^ In regards to what David said, I think now is a great time to present more LGBT content in particular because we are going to Orlais, where status and power count more than who you bed at night.
I think it's great that Bioware pays so much attention to the different sexual orientations, but they should have told us a bit sooner... DHMG was my absolute favourite LI candidate since the first time I saw the war room concept art, and now it's hard to let go
I'm trying to slowly detach myself from him and latch myself onto Solas, but it's hard to let go of dat 'stache
