Regarding his romance story arc.

It's just stereotypical. He rebels from his family because they don't approve of his homosexuality. I wish it was something different rather than how sucks it is to be gay though. It's very generic.

 

Interesting I'm not that far in but I thought the problem with his father was more about his view on magic and becoming a Magister.. . Him not wanting to re-place his father.

Damn.  You have both Blackwall and Dorian after 8 hours?  I'm 9 1/2 hours in and I've only done the prologue, explored Haven, and gone through most of the Hinterlands.  I've just entered the Storm Coast for the first time and it's only the second area that I've been to (outside of Hinterlands).  And I'm still rocking my original squad because I haven't met any other companions yet.  I'd better get it together and start recruiting.  I haven't even been to Val Royeaux yet.

I really really wanted Dorian, lol. I went out of my way to side with the mages (closing down all Templar options, but my mage Herald was just fine with that) and ran around like a dummy trying to get the whopping 15 power needed to even approach the mages. I was around level seven when I finally took the quest. It seems Dorian's recruitment was intricate. All you had to do with Blackwall was approach him and some stuff happens within the same scene, and then as you're leaving he's like, "hey, I wanna come." (paraphrased of course, lol). Dorian...crap, you gotta get stuck in time with him and then watch some pretty dark **** concerning your party members. I loved it, but it was so different from the "la la la hey blackwall, come join us" type of recruitment.

Now it's starting the romance that has me worried. There seems to be bugs in his questline, and so far, no one has answered my questions on when you can undergo that Last Resort for Good men? ( I think it's called that).

I mean, I know some have finished the quests without an issue, but those few who can't even get Dorian to initiate dialogue in the tavern...is that on PS4?

I just finished Dorian's recruitment quest yesterday (his is the only one I've done so far) and here's what I remember:

Redcliffe will be available once you've received an invitation from Fiona in Val Royeaux. To do this, you'll have to unlock the Address the Chantry in Val Royeaux quest through the war table first then an encounter with Fiona will trigger before you leave Val Royeaux.

A little? I've heard his lines in other media beforre pretty much verbatim. My father can't accept me, I don't want to live a lie, conversion therapy, etc. etc.  I know Gaider had good intentions but the writing had all the subletly of a bullet train to the face.

 

I've seen waaaaaay too many gay characters in media whose primary conflict is their struggle with their sexuality.  LIke, enough to last me a lifetime.

True, but to be fair, we haven't seen it in Bioware games yet.  I haven't played the romance yet, so I can't speak to it first hand, but I think it will be interesting to see issues of sexuality played out in Thedas.  As long as it doesn't become a trend with gay characters (which it hasn't, since Juhani, Steve, Samantha, and [from what I understand] Sera don't have the same story arc), I'm okay with them exploring it with a character.

I liked it in the context of his relationship with the Inquisitor. That was a different perspective on it and was pretty sweet.

 

I could have done without his personal request revolving around it.

Although it did have my favorite moment in the game so far, when I took a flirt option that said I had experience with men too and he sassed me and told me how obviously gay I was, haha.

It's the quest where you have to take Dorian to meet his father in Redcliffe tavern. I went there, but the tavern was empty - no NPCs, only a few codex entries. I expected a cutscene to trigger or Dorian's father to be there and be available to speak to - but there's nothing. I've tried reloading, restarting the game and even played through attack on Haven once more (just to make sure). Still no result. I'm playing on PC. Is there any way to solve this or do I have to wait for a patch to come?

Thanks!  I was operating on old playstyles, and thinking I'd finish the Hinterlands first, but I see I need to return to Haven and deal with the Chantry.

I did this exact same thing (trying to 100% complete the Hinterlands).  Now, 9 1/2 hours in, I've finally decided to move onto another area. 

 

I seriously wonder if we are related sometimes when I read your posts.  Sometimes, I read them and then think, "When did I post this.....?"  Great surnames think alike, sir.

I personally like Dorian's romance and his quest as well. The storyline was rather common for a gay character but it was done well so I have no problems with it.

 

In fact I would rank Dorian's romance to be one of the top 3 romances in DAI, along with Josephine's & Solas'.

How is everyone even completing this romance already? Crap, I just got him after eight hours, lol. Can anyone tell me what triggers his personal quest, and then his romance quest?

On a side note, I'm hoping recruiting Sera isn't bugged. I looked the the "red things" during the first vist to Val Royeaux and saw one, but it just lay there. No interaction. Granted, Fiona had shown up and invited me to Redcliffe, and I was supposed to go back to Haven, to start Hushed Whispers, so I'm not sure if that was the cause or not. I'm playing on the PS4

And speaking of PS4...anyone have the audio bug? Where it cuts out the voices and dialogue? It seems to happen for me if I accidently set off my magic outside of battle. Also, Cassanda's first personal convo is bugged. I had to skip a dialogue thread. Then there's weird character movements. They're twitchy...I don't remember DA2's companions running around like that and getting themselves into odd postions (like on top of haybales?)

Did you do the search radar over the flags? You can't interact with them without the search even though you can see them with out it.

This. I haven't played yet (Europoor), but I can see how Tevinter might have different attitude toward gay people from the rest of Thedas. If I remember correctly from "World of Thedas", being gay is not a sin in Thedas, but I can understand that in a country that wants to breed the most powerful mages being gay might be considered an obstacle. Think of it in a sense of medieval European nobility - you want to secure an heir, no matter what. Sera, being a commoner would not have been pressured into this, this changing her perspective on this issue. On another hand, I can also appreciate that some people might have an issue with his "I'm only into sex, relationship is not something I do" philosophy. Consider this, his opinion is derived from his upbringing an situation in Tevinter, but, generally speaking, why would anyone want a relationship (think Isabela, Morrigan et al.). M.

Goodness, there are a lot of problems with PC, but has any other PC players had this problem? I'm not there yet, but I want to see how many others had it or not.

Have you tried exiting and entering the tavern again? It happened to me too and then I just left and re-entered. Worked for me.
