What do you mean by breakup scene? I once initiated the breakup, but it seemed he didn't care too much and only said he's going to get drunk now or something. No cutscene or anything. Is there a lenghty, super sad cutscene later on or what?
Yes. There's another if you sleep with him and then break up. Though there's a special place in hell for people like that, no doubt. Although that other one you mentioned is also sad - because wth do you mean "didn't care too much",he just didn't show it and probably drank himself into oblivion after that.
There's also a scene where you can say something like that time's not right but it's not a break up and won't cut you out of romance later, I guess.
But thanks for telling me (sorta) beforehand! I was tempted to do it just to see, but oh I can't take his eyes when they're sad.
God yes. It was hard enough looking at him after asking "why dangerous". Can't deal with this, guh.

Ah, I see. So you mean breaking up directly after the bed scene. I haven't tried that out.
The romance itself is absolutely amazing so far. They hit the nail on the head for sure. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside, to finally see something like this after my more than 25 years of gaming. I have shown all dialogue and romance scenes, I had so far, to my partner and he agreed wholeheartedly. We didn't think it would ever be possible, to have this kind of content in a video game. At least not, if someone would have asked us 10 years ago. A lengthy quest chain, exclusively dedicated for that and bits of content revolving around it, strewn into the game progression here and there, instead of just a 2-5 minutes and be done with it cop-out.

Not really, but at some scenes you get an option to not pursue the romance any further. And he makes some remark about how crappy the drapes are in your quarters (post sex). ![]()

GAH! Yeeees! I wonder what happens if you deny him after "The Night". Oh don't think about it, just dont...

Dorian is actually the first gay video game character I've fallen in love with. He's seriously well done, both in romance and out.
The fact he reminds me of Freddy Mercury doesn't help, either. ![]()
So flirt/romance question.
To initiate his romance, can I wait until his personal questSpoilerto start flirting? I don't want my ccharacter to hit on him too early since that would be ooc. Or to be safe, should I flirt at least once before leaving Haven?
Getting the timing down for romances is a bit tricky in this game.
I want to say yes. But I chose every single flirt option so I can't confirm. There's something that happens that I feel like would be the solidifying option.
.....

The next romancable gay character has to be a tall, bearded warrior with broad shoulders, who suddenly shows feelings for the main character and gets all soft and romantic all of a sudden. That would catch a lot of people off-guard for sure.

I believe, but don't know for sure, that the option still remains until much later on. I'm still able to hit on Vivienne, Sera and Cassandra, even after my character has slept with Dorian. I mean, the heart dialogue options haven't disappeared yet, which is strange. Ah well... where is Isabella when you need her for an epic four- or fivesome in the Inquisitor's quarters. ![]()
Ok how is the romanace? I have seen the love scene on YT- since I was unsure of how 'romance' works without gift spam, or approval meter
I have my male elf SnS to either him or Cass......
So, it turns out my finance is getting me a PS4 for Christmas. Bad news is I have to drop another sixty dollars for another copy of the game. Good news is that soon I'll get to see Dorian's ass in all it's next gen graphics glory.

Around when should Dorian's romance trigger?
I choose to conscript the mages, did all of Dorian's war room missions, did the Venatori personal mission, and cannot seem to advance his personal storyline any further. He still gains approval during missions.
Is there a sure way to tell if I got the confirmed bug?

Have you been flirting with him and have gotten the quest from mother Giselle?

Flirt yes, Mother Giselle, no.
There is no reaction dialogue from him after I got my specialization as knight enchanter either, when both Vivi and Solas responded.

That may be the issue, you need to get the Mother Giselle quest in order to start the romance with him. She will be in the main hall in skyhold if you can get it.

The issue is she never shows up. What triggers it? Approval? I got three greatly approves when I did the kill 3 Venatori quest. Should that not have been enough?
Well, I got it almost immediately after moving into skyhold and I sided with the Mages and turned them into allies (greatly approved), talked about stopping Corypheus (greatly approval), and agreed with him a few times (from slight to approval). I fear it may be bugged for you.

Too bad I can't tell if it is just my approval rating is too low, or if it is indeed bugging. Hope the fix comes soon. I don't think I shall be playing much until that and the banter issues are fixed.
Out of curiosity, did you ask Dorian in Haven if he's been to see Alexius in jail? Some say that bugs it.
Ah, I think I did, but I don't remember.
I'd like to know if I can do the first flirt during his first quest as well. I love the interaction if I flirt before that, the whole "the Herald of Andraste? I am shocked and scandalized." "Such Sarcasm." "You didn't exactly make it subtle." But I want to know if there's a different reaction, if Dorian really IS shocked if my boy announces right then that he likes men.

I always clicked every heart option, if possible, but it was only an exchange of compliments before the bar meetup. Doesn't look like you are supposed to outright admit it before that scene. I found the inquisitor's answer pretty epic in that moment and I didn't expect that at all. Sitting in front of my PC, clicked the heart dialogue and then I was all like: "WHAT did you just say?", but I liked how he blatantly admitted it right there in front of his father to support Dorian.
Ahhh, I just finished the game with a Dorian romance. ![]()
It was brilliant.
Okay, this is starting to ****** me off now.
Both of my Qunari got Mother Giselle to spawn almost immediately after getting to Skyhold and talking to Dorian right away. I have gone all the way back to Redcliff, back to the first conversation with Dorian, and redoing it, and she still will not spawn with his quest. I did basically every single thing the same, except the first time I made the mages prisoners rather than allies. So, I went back and redid it, made the mages allies, then played all through for the fourth time or so, got to Skyhold, and she is STILL NOT SPAWNING. The only thing I did different was how I acquired the mages. I went and fixed that and it is STILL not working. What the holy f-ck? This is the character I want to finish the game with but if it's f-cked up beyond repair and I can't romance Dorian (only other one I actually really like so far is Cullen and that's impossible) then what the hell is the point?
Has anyone figured out what the frick makes that damned quest start?
And no, I haven't done any of the flirts yet because I want to find out if the tavern scene changes, and at this point, the stupid thing probably won't even work if I go back for the fifth time and hit all the flirts.
