So, I did War Table quests:

A friend in Qarinus

and

Dorian's Request

I got approval, and when I went to talk to Dorian, the scene where:

So, i went up to talk to him about it, then went to the tav right away.

So, the dialogue then goes like:

So, not really much difference. I was hoping for him to actually BE surprised, but I suppose it's a stressful moment and his method of coping is sarcasm. At this point, the only flirt my boy has done was one with Cassandra and poking at Cullen a bit to see him get all flustered about it.

Was it worth the multiple reloads and agonising trying to figure it out? Lol.

Y'know, after having played through the game extensively... While I like Dorian, and I totally thought he'd be my canon romance, he got on my nerves a little. Just enough for me to think "we can totally be friends. But I'd never date you."

Ended up going with the Iron Bull - whom I had NO intention of romancing - or even having in my party. But he turned out to be SO good.

I'm posting in this thread just because I'm wondering if others felt the same about Dorian. I mean, I REALLY thought he'd the one for my character. I'm a little sad he wasn't.

Nope, felt almost the opposite. I liked both pretty evenly, but as I played, I liked Dorian more and Bull less (and I felt the same way about not wanting to romance Bull in the future). I think it really depends on enjoying Dorian's sense of humor. If you like that sarcastic sense of humor, than he is easily one of the funniest companions we've had, if you don't he is one of the most annoying ones.

I'm actually straight IRL but I still romanced Dorian. He was just that awesome.

I'm sure there's a fair few gay gamers here, though.

Gay gamer, intended to romance Iron Bull but dropped him because he was too formal/professional when talking to the Inquisitor. Yeah, cause calling me your boss all of the time is real sexy. Sort of feels like flirting with / being flirted by James Vega - wrong.

Went with Dorian instead. Felt more natural especially after the mage quest.

I'm gay IRL.

I had no idea who I was going to romance. Typically I just do a "Wait and see" approach, but I DID plan to check out Viviene. But then I went to Redcliffe, knew he was the only gay man in the game, and thought "Ok, ok... Not bad, let's see how this goes."

I was worried that Dorian would be some super-turbo gay guy that's annoying and whiny about mage problems (This is where I glare at Anders) but nope. 'twas pleasently surprised and so happy how they pulled it all off.

I'm also actually gay. And no, Dorian turned out to be pretty much everything I hoped for. For me it was Bull who ended up being a disappointment. Dorian has his flaws, but I find them to be the most agreeable flaws, at least for me, out of the five male same-sex love interests for Dragon Age that we've had so far. And to a degree, they are flaws I have in common with him, so perhaps I'm more understanding than most.

I see you've got some Morrigan going on there ('twas), hehe.
& yeah, he really wasn't over the top I think. Had some quirks, but I suppose we all do

Hm, I identify with Dorian quite a bit as well. Not much of a talker when it comes to emotions, which I try to shrug of with humor or sarcasm

Same. During the ending when you're expecting something syrupy and sentimental and he goes with "You're terribly dull and I hate you." That could have been autobiographical for me if it had been the Inquisitor instead of Dorian.

I'm a gay gamer as well, romanced Iron Bull first and loved him, going with Dorian on my current/second playthrough right now, about to recruit him! ;D

Is that before or after he pushes you into your quarters for some "inquisiting?" Or is that some other scene? It seems a little harsh...I would have liked something syrupy...but eh, whatever.

And the Abyss quest is broken for me. I'm going to see if waiting through the stuck dialogue works...it seems to with others who ran into the bug.

That, and kissing Dorian seems to crash my game often. Maybe not right after, but if I talk to anyone after the scene, it crashes the PS4. LOL, it's amusing in a way. Dorian's too sexy for my PS4.

Oh, and my banter is working again. I switched around my characters and explored new areas and progressed the storyline more...it seems to have worked and they're chatting away. Cassandra and Dorian are getting along now. Still can't bring myself to include Vivienne. That woman just irks the hell out of me.

Coming in here to say that Dorian is *really* winning me over.

I pretty much went in neutral on everyone, except for being incredibly curious about Solas and already being a Varric fan from DA2. Rolled a female Lavellan that I'm still working through my first playthrough with (I'm thoroughly spoiled about All The Major Things, though) and she's romancing Solas. But man. I just got Dorian's personal quest last night regarding the letter Mother Giselle passes along as well as the Mother confronting him later being suspicious because he's a Tevinter. Between his father's quest and then having to defend him against the Mother afterwards... just everything about Dorian's responses was amazing. Pure amazing. I ended up getting a friends-to-the-end sort of speech from him afterwards that just absolutely warmed my heart. We're besties! :D

He's quickly become one of my favorite companions, hands down. Enough so that I've actually kicked Varric off my go-to team and am dragging Dorian around everywhere with me (alongside Solas and Iron Bull).

I was really torn on what to do with my impending second playthrough... I've Inquisitors in mind for Cullen, Bull, and Dorian... but the way Dorian's friendship arc has gone, that pretty much made up my mind that I'm gonna roll a male Lavellan for him next playthrough. I may not even wait until I'm done with this first one... I may just go ahead and roll him and do tandem playthroughs.

David Gaider did a fabulous job here. Really, really love Dorian.

(And since it seems to be a current topic of conversation, I'll admit to being a hetero female gamer.)

Yep same here. Male Elf for Iron Bull in my first playthrough and next is Male Qunari for Dorian! So excited for his romance  :D

Dorian is cool, I just wish they did not do the "coming out" to the inquisitor the way they did. I can't really see him as a Tevinter Altus anymore, just a gay mage.

My heart broke for Dorian when he confronted his father and the discussion afterwards. That... was a very powerfully written scene.

As a female, I'm denied the Dorian-mance, but the flirting is fun and doesn't make my LI jealous.

I really like Dorian's combination of sarcasm and his genuine desire to do good and to make his homeland a better place. If I weren't permanently stuck on my current LI, I'd probably create a male character just to romance Dorian. And I'm usually about as snarky as Dorian, so he was theoretically almost the ideal match for me (but then you meet someone else, and bam - guess it's a little too late now, hah!).

Also, in the aftermath of a certain other companion's personal quest, Dorian made a somewhat cutting comment related to it but later apologized for what he said - which I thought showed that he's ultimately a nice and understanding guy.

That line, and the one after it, just made me burst into happiness. This was the reason I romanced Dorian. His sense of caring and joking is just a wonderful mix.

Yeeeees!! I kept checking his face for tears because DANG that was emotionally charged.

Haha! Everytime I see Morrigan in Dragon Age I start talking like her. She's one of my favorite characters in the entire series (Dorian is currently competing against her. Stay tuned for final results).

And yeah, gay men DO act differently then straight guys sometimes, it's just who we are. Stereotypes exist for a reason and it was just played very well in Dorian's case.

I actually laughed out loud so hard when Dorian said that. It was unexpected, but hilarious, and suited Dorian perfectly.

Well, there's romance-exclusive stuff after Here Lies the Abyss, Wicked Hearts, What Pride Has Wrought, and Doom Upon the World, but I think you've done everything that is purely about the romance. He never asked to move into my quarters besides expressing his opinion about the decor.
