To be honest it quite puzzles me how anyone can take the whole crazy business going on there serious.

It's a mad charade of more or less well off cry-babies, circle jerking to unbelievable heights of ridiculousness. And the fact it's not supposed to be satirical really scares me. But I'd rather not delve into this any further.

Did anyone ever get Dorian to comment the inquisitor's health after a battle? Blackwall apparently rarely says "Are you alright, love?", when the inquisitor is in a relationship with him and takes damage during combat.

Dorian never randomly said anything romance related like that during our travels yet and I have him in the party on every mission. A pity, considering how much that would raise the bar on the awesomeness scale for sure.

Dorian has his scenes depending upon what you do. He was really worried about me drinking from the well, lots of Tevinter cursing there. lol!  He also expresses concern after the fade trip. Dorian knows you can handle yourself but when you take big risks, that's when you get them puppy dog eyes.

I know the scripted, plot related stuff. What I meant is a complete random comment from out of nowhere, which just happens during regular travel/combat. Like your party members taunts, when they kill an enemy or something. You battle a group of bandits for example, the inquisitor takes a hit and Blackwall asks, if you are alright after combat is over.

The only thing like that that I have noticed is another party member yelling "Dorian!" when he nearly got one-shot by something. (Or maybe it was my inquisitor yelling?) I don't remember anyone so far commenting on my character's health.

I ran through the romance initiation (the amulet quest) on one of my Qunari and it's kinda lol. I think they had trouble making that scene work with an inquisitor that's a foot and a half taller than him, because my boy suddenly shrunk so Dorian could lean in to whisper in his ear. It killed a bit of the romance. (Not that it would stop me continuing it!)

The snake also appears in Vivienne's as well. I believe it mostly represents magic and how they deal with it. Dorian is constantly being threatened by it and Vivienne is holding it by the tail, arrogantly, putting on a show that she has control over it but as some people might know, hold a snake by the tail is incredibly dangerous.

Well, the Tevinter heraldry has a snake in it, which is what I always assumed was the reason it's used for him.

Tip: Set Dorian's AI to Defend: Dorian to keep him from running up into close combat.

I've got no idea. I only just started playing on PS4 and you don't get any of the battle yelling on PS3 or if you do, mine is bugged.

I get these shouts regularly from everyone, if someone gets wounded or receives a heavy hit. Like "Help <insert character name>!" or just the character's name in a worried tone of voice, but I have yet to experience a romance related comment from Dorian, like Blackwall apparently gives ("Are you alright, love?") if the inquisitor gets hit during combat. That's why I asked, whether anybody got something like that in his/her game.

Wow, never got that banter from Cole, despite having in my group since two days now. Only Sera's jousting comment, which was hilarious. :)

That's right. There's a video of it here, though it shows both options when you agree to do what the merchant asks and when you kill him.

Strange, I've never got this option. He just gives me the amulet right away.

I don't think he has one :( This is the only thing that bugs me about his romance - practially no one comments on it and Dorian only talks to you in private, feels like hiding in the closet

All the other companions mention it during banter, other than maybe Solas. I don't remember with him.

Cole, Vivienne, Sera, Cassandra, and Blackwall comment on it in party banter (I can't remember if the other's do, but I know for sure those guys) and the thing is, the library may feel private because in the cut scenes you don't see anyone, but it is actually pretty public, you have a number of characters up there walking around and looking straight at where Dorian chills and when you kiss Dorian (in the non 'let's go someplace private cut scenes), you are doing it there, in front of everyone.

There is scripted party banter about your romance. Like the dialogue posted by vincezev just recently. A few party members also mention it, if you ask them about your companions in Skyhold. There is much more specific romance acknowledgement among various characters, than in any of the previous games. We have a whole lot in this game, which I'm grateful for.

They even got it right and refer to "him" as your lover, whereas they could have just used a unisex description of your romance partner.

Hahaha, I think there is agreement that there is a whole lot of Dorian romance mentioned by the other characters. Boy did we react quickly to that one!

Dorian did comment when my Inquisitor got slightly injured.

Spoiler
One time it happened after a normal battle and one time while stumbling over some rocks at the Storm Coast. I didn't fall off a cliff, just jumping and landing awkwardly. I thought it was cute, but it is strange that he never said a word when my Inquisitor got incinerated by a dragon.

These comments seem to be super rare then. Perhaps, I should let my inquisitor run in all guns blazing into each battle next time, to provoke the reaction.

Ok, so apparently I'm having trouble getting Dorian's personal quest to trigger. It did for me in one playthrough, but I didn't play it out because I wanted to save it for the playthrough I'm currently on. Thing is, it hasn't triggered yet. I've never done anything that Dorian has disapproved of (that I am aware of), I've done his quest where we hunted down some Venatori, and I've done the two war table missions. I sentenced Alexius to help the mages, but Mother Giselle has not shown up in the main hall. Last time, I went and talked to him and he told me about Felix, and when I went down to the main hall, Mother Giselle was there.

I was wondering if anybody can walk me through exactly what they did when Dorian's personal quest triggered for them, that way I can compare it to what I did. I don't really remember all the steps I took last time it triggered. I do remember that I sentenced Alexius to prison, instead of helping the mages, but that's about it.

 Please and thank you! I want to get the full experience with Dorian, considering I think of him as my Inquisitor's bff, and I plan on romancing him in my next playthrough.

Side Note: It is 6 am where I am, and I work 3rd shift, so I'm about to crash for "the night". So I probably won't see any replies until I wake up. Just know that I appreciate any and all responses! I figured it would be easier to ask everyone here instead of searching the internet. I don't want to get too spoiled with what happens during the quest. ;)

When I talked about his romance, I wasn't talking about his father's quest. I was talking about it in general. The way he's reluctant to put himself out there emotionally, the way he expresses his feelings through snark and physical actions unless he's angry or upset, the way he wants the Inquisitor to be the first one to talk about relationship things. It was made clear that he wasn't allowed these things in Tevinter, because the only safe option for two men was something quick and fun; a no-ties, one night stand, essentially. The Inquisitor can offer him something more, something he's wanted but been denied, and (or, in the case of femQuisitors) accepts him for who he is; he doesn't know how to deal with it and it shows. Some of Cole's comments about Dorian are really pretty sad. Also, if Dorian liked women at all, it would have been easier to conform to his father's wishes and fit in with Tevinter society. If he didn't have this thing that essentially made him an outsider (his unwillingness to live a lie, of which his attraction to men was a big factor of), if his father hadn't went to the extremes he did to get him to conform (if Dorian was attracted to women his father would probably not have felt the need to go to turn to blood magic, because he'd figure that eventually Dorian would settle down, have kids, and continue his legacy), would he have noticed the extent of Tevinter's corruption? Who's to say. But we know he was privileged, even for a mage in Tevinter, and we know that he didn't even think about slavery until he left Tevinter and saw it through others' eyes.

I never said Dorian was his sexuality, nor did I say it was his only quality, so I'm not sure why you're accusing me of it. People who dismiss him as just his sexuality are wrong, and I'll tell them so when I'm not lurking, but I think it's also wrong to deny that it had an influence on shaping who he is, because it obviously did. If someone wants to write him being into women, they'd have to change his backstory. Why does he act this way? Why does he feel this way? Why did his father go to such extremes? What made him see Tevinter's faults? Imo, just saying 'well, he didn't want to marry the woman his father picked' isn't good enough, because I never got the impression that his father had just one specific woman picked out and you can't tell me that all women of standing in Tevinter are evil harpies, (and if an author writes them that way, well, that's a different problem.) People can write it if they want, but it's not something I'll read and, yeah, I'll consider it OOC.* And I've been bullied in real life, I know how harmful it can be and I don't support it at all, but if someone's writing a gay character as bi or straight, they need to realize and be prepared for the baggage that comes with it and how people might react.

*For the record, I'm differentiating between Dorian/femQuisitor and, say, Dorian/Josephine or Dorian/Cassandra, because that's the only straight Dorian pair I've seen an interest for. I'd give more leeway to someone who wanted to explore Dorian with one of the female companions, provided they address this sudden attraction to a woman and not just brush it off. It's still not going to be my thing, but people can't help what dynamics grab them. But if they're writing him with the Inquisitor, I literally can't see a good reason to write him with a female Inquisitor instead of a male one.

I agree with most of what you said, but I actually think that Dorian being a woman wouldn't have changed much of his background story, given the gender equality and everything. Though that would still require him being a lesbian.

Come now. Is it really surprising fems want to get into dorians pants even through fanfics? He is like.... just so perfectly adorable and gorgeous and so well written.
I'd trade him for cullen in a heartbeat. But having said that, i dont want him any other way. I doubt he would be the way he is if he was made straight. Not that straight is bad ofc but you know what i mean. His life story is what made him the way he is.

This is why in my first playthrough, I played a male inquisitor and romanced him.

Playing an inquisitor that's dramatically different from who you are in real life is encouraged and is equally, if not more enjoyable than trying to identify yourself with the inquisitor. To me, that's what roleplaying about - it's a chance to be someone else, even just in a fantasy world.

Try romancing him as a male inquisitor and I think you'll be satisfied.

If you've done the "Friend in Qarinus" and "Dorian's Request", then the cutscene about Felix should come the next time you talk to him. I'm assuming you need a certain level of approval for this, but since we can't see our rating, there's no telling just how much you need. I got a couple of slight disapprovals when talking to him, but still had no trouble with this. One you have that cutscene, Giselle should arrive downstairs to talk to you. If you've done those war table missions, and the Felix cutscene isn't triggering, maybe your approval isn't high enough with him? Or you have the glitch that prevents Giselle from showing up :/ Because it seems like you've done everything needed so far for it.

With my Dalish elf, it took a little longer to get everything going because I didn't realize the two war table missions were prerequisites. Once I did those two, everything went smoothly.

I don't think the two war table missions are requirements. Immediately after arriving in skyhold, I went to talk to him, went downstairs and there she was. I think the whole thing with him is a bit buggy.

I also had really high approval with him so maybe that helped? Playing as a pro-rebellion mage makes getting approval from him really easy.
