I like the one where he says (paraphrased) "watching you run around is exhausting." I always wish my Inquisitor could make a comment about it. Oh, there was also the one about watching the Inquisitor walk away, because Dorian wanted to look at his butt. I haven't heard that one since they actually started the relationship proper, though.

Spoiler

I don't know, just everything about him is adorable. He's got so much emotion hidden underneath that smooth exterior.

Yep, I also like how you get the occassional glimpes of deep care now and then, between all his snarky talk. I think the inquisitor says "I must go." and then Dorian replies with something like "I like watching you doing so.".

Yeah, I wasn't sure if Dorian liked me or not when he said he liked watching me leave.

I just checked, and Dorian does say in post-ending Skyhold that he'll be staying in the South -- if you don't talk to him at the epilogue party.

For some reason, talking to him there makes his line afterwards something like "I'll be staying, for a time".

I have no idea why the dialogue difference afterwards depends on what you did at the Skyhold party.

Been meaning to post a few thoughts since I finished my first rushed-get-to-know-the-game playthrough, but eh... on my 3rd (canon) playthrough now so yea :P

I was a bit worried before the game came out, especially about Dorian. Gay characters are practically non-existent in the gaming industry (and the "invisible" ones are tiring for me - reffering to the ones you don't know they're gay, but the devs come in and tell you "yea yea they're gay, but it's just a part..." and some bs after) so I was worried how well he was going to be portrayed and whatnot.

Then the game came out and I was simply speechless at how amazing he is. I mean the writing is incredible, the voice acting, the animations... everything just comes together in one impressive package (pun intended). He just feels so real it's shocking. He has flaws, but he's trying to better himself. He's damaged by what happened with his father, but he didn't let it break him. He's trying to connect with people and open dialogue instead of falling on stereotypes and preconceptions (I think he tries to "find common ground" with all the other companions, if I remember his banter correctly and in most cases he succeeds).

Having a character with such a lovely personality and so clearly outlined with a few dialogue lines is really impressive. Top notch writing.

Personally I adore him. I tend to gravitate towards sarcastic in general, but mix that with smarts, charm, character and personality depth, a beautiful appearance... and I'm done :P (all in one is so rare lol). He's my favorite companion in all Bioware games by far, and obviously my default... actually my only LI :) 3 playthroughs and it's him everytime... I'm not even flirting now with others haha (did it the first time with Cullen and a bit with Bull, and I liked Cullen's reaction; on Bull I'll get back in a bit).

Now about his pairing with the Bull. No. Just no. I understand why they added it, it's basically fan service, but the way Bull is written just makes their relationship horrifying for me. I know bdsm adepts (actually they're really just sadists who try to deny it - the ones like Bull) have all this little speeches about getting to know yourself by letting go of control and similar nonsense to justify it and/or make it seem ok, but it's all just bull (pun intended again). You just met the guy and you know what he needs? No. This also comes with a very irritating condescending attitude (which they nailed perfectly in Bull's dialogue, and makes it even more disgusting for me). Examples: the comment about topping from the bottom, his "mageboy" comment and the general attitude. What bugs me the most is Dorian is (as I understand the character) too smart to go for somehing like this. A one nighter, sure, no problem. A longer term thing? No way. Now if they address this in a dlc it would be fantastic. Something along the lines of "yea we parted ways... we wanted different things"... or more to the point Dorian saying something like "I don't want someone telling me what I need like I'm a child", which is exactly what Bull is doing (to the Inquisitor as well in the romance from what I've seen on utube - "it would disrespect you to do otherwise" lol... no Bull, you're just afraid to bottom and are a sadist... just have the b*lls to admit it :P - quote is not accurate, but that's the idea when you talk to him about it). As a side note I love how Solas demolishes Bull's so-called arguments about the Qun, about everything really.

Anywho, back to how amazing Dorian is... he's amazing  ^_^  (nod to the Rift mage specialization trainer who must be one of the funniest characters ever lol)

His party banter is also hilarious for most parts (when it's not it's not really his fault, with trying to open a line of communication and whatnot). His dialogue with Solas and Varric are best imo. Witty snark all over.

Finally, his romance arc was just beautiful, and his sex scene one of the best (I haven't watched all of them though so I can't really say... well actually, diplomacy aside, you get to see Dorian naked... there's not even a competition for me lol).

As soon as a hotfix comes for the mess that was Patch 2 (what is it with Bioware and the number 2? really now - DA2... yea, ME2... yea... Patch 2... yea... :D ), going back to finishing my main playthrough, human mage, in love with Dorian, and going for sexy times with him everytime he's in Skyhold haha (I do wish you actually had that possibility lol, in addition to just a quick smooch but I head cannon that that is actually the after* kiss... )

Cheers!

Strange. I wonder if it's a glitch? Does he stay 'for a time' if you support him going back to Tevinter? I wonder if talking to him at the party switches the dialogue to being like you supported him returning, even if you didn't or something.

So I have a bit of a silly question-- or a wonder, really. When I first played, I thought the whole 'happy ending' was actually a fade dream, connecting back to how Solas commented on how the anchor allows the Inquisitor to dream particularly vividly. Did anyone else fear for that? I'm still a little worried that happy ending might be revealed to be just a dream while the Inquisitor is in a comer or something. D:

....And seriously, don't get me started on Bull/Dorian-- or the Bull/Inquisitor romance for that matter. It actually made me dislike Iron Bull. I was a little worried when comments about 'Fifty Shades of Bull' was bandied about, but I shrugged and took it as a joke. Now that I've seen what the guy is like in a relationship, it seems entirely accurate considering how disgustingly the relationship and concept of BDSM is written in that book compared to how disgustingly Bull acts. :c

Well, I have no problem with Bull's attitude and sexual preferences, given his background. And I don't think he is afraid to bottom - he may just not enjoy it as much.

He doesn't have to admit that he is sadistic to have his BDSM lifestyle justified. I know it's hard to understand for people who don't embrace the lifestyle, but sadism really is not something people within the community view negatively and has to be explained, notified or come to term with, so he may just find it unnecessary to announce it (and given his cultural background, it would feel out of place. Qunari don't view sex the same way we do). Plus, Bull always strikes me as a switch. Remember when he asks you to beat him? Does it look like a sadistic behavior? And let's not forget that he willingly sent himself to be fixed, or the conversation about how he let the servant women feel better. I simply assumed that he let them dominate him when I got that dialogue.

Dorian's relationship with Bull gives me so much to think about...hmm...

I have nothing against his sexual preferences. I have everything against his attitude and how he treats Dorian and occasionally the Inquisitor, which I personally find deplorable. It doesn't sound like a healthy, equal relationship at all and Dorian is obviously often uncomfortable in those banters. It makes me cringe. :c

It's why I mentioned the 'Fifty Shades of Bull' thing, seeing BDSM relationships are written in an incredibly inaccurate/uncomfortable way in that book. And, sadly, to me, Bull came across that same way to me. Uncomfortable and... eesh...

I know what you mean, but I basically just laugh whenever he does that. It's quite obvious that he doesn't mean to show his disrespect, but just finds it fun to talk about his sexual experience in public, which unfortunately makes the poor non-Qunari uncomfortable.

I blame the cultural differences. ;)

EDIT: also it's why the Dorian Bull relationship seems so adorable. Dorian is all about being discrete and has a hard time coming to terms with his feelings. He is really self-conscious and often worries about people's opinions regarding his relationship. But Bull is just the exact opposite.

I think Bull can make him open up a bit by just being Bull-ish. My inquisitor can't do a better job than him given the limited dialogue options and fixed personality.../sigh

My Femquisitor flirted with him and got a line about him liking watching her leave, very early on in their friendship. I remember thinking "cheeky sod!" And wondering whether he was mock flirting back, or making a very clever dig at her for pestering him with do many questions
His friendship arc developed so naturally with my Inquisitor, and I was so touched when he said he wanted to stay at the end of the game. I think he may well be my all-time favourite companion. I also felt surprisingly protective of him, and ended up really disliking Mother Giselle as a result.

The problem is his language is often belittling. It isn't that he's just someone that likes to talk about his sex-life, but that every word towards Dorian shows he looks down on him. 'Mageboy'? 'Stop topping from the bottom'? It just seems very, very controlling and like Iron Bull believes Dorian should do what he says because he knows better. 'Silly boy, don't you know that? I know what you want and you should stop fighting me.'

It just grosses me out personally and has really soured my view of the character, which is a shame because I loved that man in my first playthrough. I guess I should be thankful my first playthrough was my Dorianmancing canon, so that I got to experience Iron Bull without the gross bits. :c

Hmm...never find them belittling myself, more like teasing. If Dorian doesn't like it he can "belittle" back and it would be an interesting conversation to here :) But I guess it's just personal taste, then.
