I have two savegames. One before the meetup in redcliffe, during which I always choose the heart dialogue options, to lock in the romance and one during which I just pick normal answers. This will change the mother Giselle confrontation and if you choose the heart options there, Dorian will approach the Inquisitor by himself for the kiss. And yes, I'm able to ask Dorian for a kiss afterwards and the cutscene in the quarters just plays like normal. BUT there is one bug I'm not able to reproduce. Sometimes you have your full UI displayed during the kissing scene, like the skill bar, radar and so on. Don't know what causes this.

 

The more I think about it, the more I wish there was a [Kiss Dorian] option during the mother Giselle confrontation, while she is still talking to you. Like a Mass Effect paragon interrupt or something. Mother Giselle: "I heard rumors abo-" *right click for paragon interrupt* *epic kiss from out of nowhere*... both Dorian and the Inquisitor turn back to their initial positions, like nothing happened and the Inquisitor goes: "Sorry, I got distracted a little. What did you want to say again?" Mother Giselle ->

Still haven't patched Dorian's quest yet? This sucks since I want him and my inquisitor to be bros. Can only imagine how much it sucks for those who intended to romance him.

Damn, I seem to have that kiss bug, too. And I noticed something was up, because I tried both scenes (kissing after the meeting with his dad, and after the confrontation with Giselle) and liked the latter more. But I was able to see a kiss scene after the first and not the second. Does this affect anything but that repeatable kissing scene? I can probably backtrack a bit if it does, (although... I think I might have just erased the most convenient save for that) but I'm not sure I mind otherwise. It looks I'm about to start some quest to get his locket, so I guess that's working fine. Or is it.

I do wish there was a "pfft...I wish." response for lady Inqusitors who took the friendly flirting path with Dorian:

Mother Gisselle: There are some who think that he has...an undue influence over you.

Inquisitor: I wish. I mean, he's so pretty.

Dorian: The poor woman cries herself to sleep each night because of it.

Inquisitor: Fate is such a cruel mistress.

I was playing with a different character and got the kiss bug. I had to reload the save where I initially started a romance and click flirt options every time (which I don't like to do since sometimes the non-flirt ones are better suited). But that fixed it and I got the cut scene. No heart option when I click for a kiss now, but the cut scene plays (without crashing so...) Only lost four hours...so I guess it isn't that bad, but still, it was weird.

 

I ended up starting the romance late even though I kissed him after Mother Giselle confronted us. It was AFTER that during a normal convo that I had the option to romance him....again. I was like...um, but you said I was already romancing him. WTF LIAR. Got to see different dialogue, but it wasn't the same effect.

 

Anyway, it's all good now. I guess.

Anyway I found a blog of a guy who has the pc version and seems to be quite happy to mod. He's used the freecam to view a bunch of Dorian's scenes(including...that one, so very NSFW)

So, does anyone know any bug fixes for Mother Giselle not giving his quest? Midway through Here Lies The Abyss, completed One Less Venatori with Dorian in my team all the while, he always approves of my actions (don't think I've ever gotten disapproval from him), judged and recruited Alexius, exhausted my dialogue options with Dorian and Giselle, and still nothing. He's the most lovable companion by far, but I have no interest in replaying through the same areas of the game for a fourth time, so if there's no workarounds for his quest I'll just have to settle for watching the romance on youtube :/

You know I really wonder how Dorian can look like that , good genes can only carry you so far.

I mean the guy is basically a librarian , a midly alcoholic librarian.

 

Anyway I'm also fond of the second kiss , after the mother Giselle speech.

The first one is...well "You have to listen to your heart".This kind of thing makes me roll my eyes.

The second is just more playful and funnier "Oh I will show you , Inquisitor what I meant! /kiss.

It amuses me way more , and just feel more natural .The first one feels like maybe Dorian liked "Swords and Shields" way more than he let on.

 

Also some Dorian banters are just priceless.

Cole asking "Dorian ,am I handsome?"

And Sera going on about how people should stop waving their "tools " in her face , and Dorian getting more and more desperate she doesn't get the double meaning."Please, stop saying Tools!"

There is a video and it is pretty interesting to watch (not just because of the kisses), but because you see the lighting going between the two of them (watch kissing Dorian number 2)

I think it has to do with how the camera is facing. The lighting is constant in the game, but they were also doing jump cuts back and forth, so we wouldn't have seen the lighting change as they focus on the different faces and as the dialogue plays, you see the lighting change to focus on that person.

Oh, they are actually holding hands for a moment and Dorian strokes the back of the inquisitor's head during the kissing? Too bad we don't get to see that in the unmodded scene, but I understand, that the whole thing would look strange and awkward otherwise, with that shifted camera angle.

I myself prefer his friendship he is like what Varric was in DA2 a bro! Plus him telling you his staying in the South because Tevinter doesn't have his best friend feels good.

While I don't have to have every character be a self-insert, I do enjoy those immensely, and he's the only option for me as a gay man... so definitely romance. He definitely makes for great best friend material too, though. But Cassandra fill that role perfectly for me.

I felt Cassandra was my inquisitor's "dump all your drama with me" friend and Dorian was the one who defended me while at the same time secretly judging me.

I stayed single because I have a weird obsession with Hawke now. Dunno why, I didnt care much for him in 2 but now... I like to ignore that whole "left after X event" part and just pretend be stayed with me. I have issues.

I'd love to read through the whole thread to find if my question has been asked or answered here before, but this thread is huge and I'd like to avoid as much spoilers (of the romance, I've had one play-through already) as possible, so I apologize for that, but I hope someone can help me here

 

During my first playthrough, I unfortunately had the bug where Mother Giselle won't appear in the hall in skyhold to give you Dorian's personal quest; I also did not get approval from him in many major decisions concerning the main plot (e.g. letting Morrigan drink from the well, etc..) according to this guide:

So, I started a second playthrough with full intention of romancing Dorian this time. I have a save where I sided with Templars (I sided with the mages the first time where I got the bug), chose 'Corypheus must be stopped' when made Inquisitor but didn't get Dorian approval, but I wasn't that worried since Dorian wasn't officially in my party at the time. Then based on the suggestion I found in this thread (http://forum.bioware...nt-start/page-3 ), to avoid the bug I left skyhold immediately after Haven was destroyed, did a few side quests in Hinderland, then returned and talked to him. I exhausted all dialogue options and chose the heart/flirt option whenever it was available and got some approval. I left skyhold again with him in my party and did some side quests before returning, but I have no new dialogue options and he doesn't give me the Venetori quest.... . At this point, I'm not sure if I simply do not have enough approval with him, or that if it's bugged again. I do not know how to level up his approval without advancing the main plot further, which I'm reluctant to do in case it's bugged again.....

 

THEN, I loaded a save and sided with the mages this time, I still do not get approval from him from allying with the mages when I'm supposed to. This is frustrating. Can anyone confirm at which point do you get approval for either path? I just want to make sure that he is not bugged in this playthrough :x

 

Also, what are some side quests that I can do to get a chance to increase his approval?

My two cents:

 

I don't think my game was bugged, but anyway, in my case, I:

1. Used flirt options in Haven.
2. Increased approval through dialogue in Haven.
3. Did not talk about Alexius in Haven.
4. Chose "Corypheus must be stopped" option. 
5. Finished the One less Venatoi quest.
6. Finished two War Table quests related to Dorian.

Afterwards, both the cutscene about Alexius' son and the quest from Giselle appeared pretty fast.

Agreed. I didn't think I would like Cassandra so much. She is such a nice individual and feels like a real person to me.
