I'm hoping someone here can help me. I never get Dorian's personal quest. I am on my 3rd play through and still no quest. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I don't support his views on slavery or because I play a female inquisitor?

Choosing the response 'Corypheus must be stopped' when you first arrive at Skyhold seems to be the fastest way to earn enough approval points from Dorian to trigger his personal quest. Talk to him in the library until he brings up Felix and Mother Giselle should be waiting in the main hall with the quest.

I suggest not exhausting his dialogue in Haven. That said, no one is sure what's bugging this quest at the moment.

The playthroughs that Dorian's quest worked for me were the ones that I exhausted Mother Giselle's dialogue while in Haven.

Oh you have to choose mages? I have only been choosing Templars so I don't get him until Skyhold. Is that the problem?

It's not the slavery thing, because I disagreed with him on it and still got his quest. I also exhausted all his dialogue at Haven, so I'm not sure that's it either. Did you exhaust all Mother Giselle's dialogue options at Haven? Some people have theorized that not doing so might be part of the problem.
What I did:
- Sided with the mages.
- Exhausted everyone's dialogue at Haven.
- Chose the 'must stop Corphy' line.
- Talked with everyone at Skyhold except Cullen and Blackwall because they were glitched and I didn't know how to get them to appear at the time.
- I think I talked to Dorian twice before the Felix cutscene triggered. I hadn't left Skyhold yet. Heck, I didn't even need to leave Dorian. I just kept talking to him.
- Went downstairs and Mother Giselle was waiting.
Like Chrys, I didn't judge Alexius until after I got the Mother Giselle scene. Actually, I don't think I judged him until after I did Dorian's personal quest. I don't really like the judgements, so I keep putting them off. XD
Has anyone sided with the Templars and been able to romance him without glitches? I was thinking of siding with them this playthrough, but with how finicky Dorian's quests seem to be, I'm not sure I want to risk it.

My Dalish romanced Dorian with no hitches while siding with the Templars. It took a while though, to get his approval up enough for him to bring up Felix and then for Mother Giselle to show up. We had to kill Venatori to make him happy.

Samesies. My slightly unhinged Vashoth makes a lot of decisions that irritate him, but he kills Venatori and does Dorian war table missions as soon as they appear, and all is well.
Don't get me wrong, the inquisitor likes Dorian and tries to make him happy, but he's... a little impulsive. He sided with the templars even after seeing the Redcliffe situation (which makes safely watching LPs really difficult, because 90% of everyone did mages). He hands out tranquility like candy, despite being a mage. He threatens merchants and gets mad at Dorian when he worries because you were with me ffs! But when he has time to think and carefully consider things, Dorian's concerns are a top priority.
It's not so much a rivalmance as it is "Adaar apologizes a lot".

I was extra paranoid in my second playthrough because I got the bug in my first so right after killing the first Venatori group in the Hinterlands, I went straight back to Skyhold and talked to Dorian. He was reading the letter and thus the quest triggered.
I was afraid killing both Venatori groups there would have resulted in me 'skipping' the mark for his companion quest.
I followed the Templar path btw.

Hey guys, question for you:
I'm planning on romancing Dorian for my next playthrough, but I heard there is one very specific choice that locks it out or breaks it up, is that true?
If so what exactly?

Maybe it's the little bit of maniacal evil in me but making that guy who was messing with the wardens, his name starts with E, tranquil is soooooooooo satisfying. I am going to try all the suggestions and hopefully it will pop up this time.

Yep, definitely thought about that one long and hard because my PC's a mage.
I feel a bit guilty about how much satisfaction I got out of it, because justice shouldn't be about revenge. If I played self-inserts, I'd probably lock him up instead.
But damn, revenge is satisfying.

I chose the Templars and still romanced Dorian with no problems.

Oh yeah, I love doing that to Erimond. The moment the option came up I didn't care about the rest. ![]()

I gave him to the Wardens (playing a rogue, so the 4th option wasn't there). I don't know if I could do that to him. It's a mental block in myself that I don't think I could have a character do in the game. It's one of those "fates worse than death" to me, and just... no. My mage might just execute him, once I get there. The mage is under a wee bit (read: a ton) of stress from what he's going through, I can see him jumping on the execution option without hesitation. He's a bit... easily riled up. I keep thinking about how his backstory went, his childhood and growing up, how he got his facial scar, etc and he comes across as someone put into a high level of responsibility before he was ready, and trying to make the best of it, so he makes rash decisions, and lopping off a bad guy's head seems like one of those "I just want to be done with this bullshit" choices.
Maybe I should write some fanfic. Heh.

I chopped his head off , he wanted to be with His God , he said.
He was happy , I got approval from almost everyone , I got a nice cutscene.
I live to serve.
