I see that and all I could think was

I want to romance Dorian and I need some help! I sided with Templars so just recently got him & chatted him up. Is there a fast way to get approval with him so I can trigger his companion quest? The least I can do is hunt the venatori with him but I don't want to run around for another 100 hours, I want to get down to business!
Hunt the Venatori in the Hinterlands, and talk to him about EVERYTHING, using all flirt options.
At that point, I think he should seem more interested.
Eventually Giselle will show up in Skyhold's main hall to give you his mission.
I knew I probably shouldn't have been reading this thread, but I did anyway, oh well.
I'm in the middle of the Dorian romance, which is great and all, and then I come in here and read about him going off to Tevinter in the end. On my first play with my femQuis, his bff, at the end he said he was going to stay with the Inquisition. I haven't yet chosen the "about the future" dialog with him because I was saving that for later on in the game (at this point I've done Adamant but still need to do Halamshiral). Will I be able to influence his choice?
I'm pretty conflicted. On the one hand I do want them to be together. On the other hand I really admire that he wants to go back home and be part of the force for change because I know how much he cares for Tevinter.

Yes, you can influence him and his choice, though there does appear to be a bug with his dialogue with the end, so even if you do influence him to stay, he might talk about leaving after the end.

"If you want to make enemies... try to change something."
His ideas are admirable and we all love him because of this, but goddamn he's such an idiot sometimes. That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works. The last person who tried to change things by himself (and he also happened to be a mage, tsk) ended up not so well. He has an idea now, but what he needs is a plan. And allies. Without that, he'll be dead in no time.
I would not allow him to go back alone if it was for me to decide.

Yeah, my rogue would be like "you do that, and you're gonna get yourself murdered you bleeding idiot." And he is totally not gonna stand for that. He'd offer to at least play bodyguard (to avoid Dorian's issue with "the Inquisitor solving all my problems for me") but him being a mundane elf, being in Tevinter is likely not healthy for him, either. A mage elf, on the other hand, would be less likely to be captured and enslaved I would imagine (though equally as likely to be murdered).
All in all, that'd probably be one big fight, not because my boy thinks his boyfriend needs to be glued to his hip, but because it's freaking dangerous for Dorian to be in Tevinter, by himself, riling up all the old guard that want to keep the status quo. His lack of friends and connections, as well as status thanks for his family, means that he'd probably be alone, or at best, have sympathizers who probably wouldn't want to out themselves, and the moment he starts stirring the pot and suggesting change, he's going to find a knife in his back, or his brain twisted by blood magic.
My boy would not just sit idly by and let him endanger himself like that. Ideals are wonderful, but with no way to enact them, it's an uphill battle he's not going to be able to win, and probably die before his first dozen steps into it.
I actually turned out to really like Dorian. I can strongly relate to his situation or disdain for his own country, with me being a american I hate my own country. Too bad not too many ppl can have the power to make a difference, Also he is one of my top mages I often use and all

He doesn't hate Tevinter, he actually loves it (which he states in one of his earlier conversations). As he says, if he hated his country, he wouldn't miss it so much. He just sees the problems with it and believes there needs to be reform.

What do you mean 'along with Bull'? Last I checked, while Bull knows things wouldn't be great for Thedas if the Qunari invaded, he did not want to change it either.

Yes, I would say that Dorian is a true patriot, which is another reason I would have a problem with persuading him to stay. I see what other people are saying about it being dangerous, foolish to go in without a plan, how one man cannot do it alone, etc. But to me that is not the point. Part of being in a relationship is supporting your partner because you know that [issue/cause/goal] is very important to them. That is really how I was looking at it, not whether Dorian would be successful or not. Of course, you can't be successful if you're dead, which is a concern. But neither can you be successful if you don't try.
Of course these posts are filled with things players wish they could have said, and I share that frustration. There have been so many conversations over all three DA games where I wanted to say something specific and the dialog options fall short, sadly.
Incidentally, one of those examples comes during the slavery talk. I can understand how Dorian would feel that way, and he does bring up a different point of view than, say, Fenris does. I really wish I could have brought up the fact that that Tevinter slavers go into other countries and kidnap people there and force those people into slavery. We saw this in DAO and DA2. He totally ignores that during the conversation, which is really the only thing that bothers me about it. Everything else about the conversation seems logical and understandable from a person with his background and experience. And of course he also shows a willingness to consider the issue, which is also important.

I think that is why it seems most people are using the head canon of they support Dorian going back to fix things, but they are encouraging him to stay so they can discuss his plans and make him see that going in alone is dumb, will get him in killed, and nothing will be fixed. It is part of a relationship to encourage and support your partner with issues they feel passionately about, but as their partner it is also part of the relationship to help them see when their plans spell nothing but disaster.
If DA4 really takes place in Tevinter, we will hopefully have an answer regarding his fate (and his romance with the Inquisitor).
Spoilers ahoy! Dana Duchy has recorded all possible variations of Dorian's personal quest. Some very potent stuff in there.
I just found his pet monkey from his concept art.

I can't wait to see if someone mods this into DAI.

Both of them I relate to hence my comparison of my reasons in real life on my personal opinion
Just wanted to say I love Dorian and there needs to be a Mr. Moustache and the Inquisitor Adventure in Tevinter DLC because he's the bestest friend my Lavellan could ever have. I'll just be over here sobbing because he's magnificent ಥ‿ಥ

Mustache Hunt DLC. Make it happen, Bioware.
There is a banter between Dorian and Cole when Dorian asks Cole about the effects of booze (or something like that) and Cole seems to refer to a flirting situation that involved Dorian. Afterwards Dorian asks Cole to keep it quiet. Have someone seen that? Did I undestand it correctly? Dorian thought about cheating on the Inquisitor? ![]()

No you didn't. Cole says he can only dig for hurtful thoughts and memories and mentions Relenus, who's clearly someone Dorian was interested or involved with in the past. It's on the wiki already.
Oh, nice to know, thanks.
