But I never heard the guy mentioned by name? When does Cole say the dude's name? Remulus?

Relenus. Sounds Tevinter and nope, we do not know anything about him.

  • Dorian: That little trick, Cole, when you dip into someone's mind and take a drink: do you choose what you're looking for or is it random?
  • Cole: It has to be hurt, or a way to help the hurt. That's what calls me.
  • Cole: Relenus...skin tan like fine whiskey, cheekbones shaded, lips curl when he smiles...He would have said yes.
  • Dorian: I'll thank you not to do that again, please.

Other than Coles banter Remelus isn't mentioned in game. Its most likely a lover of Dorian that wouldve agreed to making things more officiall between them.

Hmm I never heard that name as a "name". I thought it was some random word and never made the connection to what he says after. It's even worse with ambient noise or battle sounds.

Yeah, that was my interpretation too. That he would have said yes to a relationship rather than just fooling around and that Dorian wasn't brave enough to ask.

Yeah, for a long time, I thought they were talking about Felix and the word was a nickname or some other Tevinter pet name.

Dorian is my favorite Dragon Age companion. His banters with Cole and Sera are amazing.  He's one of the nicest companions. He may come off as a bit snooty at first, but to me, I think he just does it because he thinks it is amusing. It is also how he likely deals with his emotional pain.

He even flat out tells Cassandra that he just likes to tease her and make her face scrunch up. Lol.  He's really sweet deep down and tries to be on good terms with everyone by the end.

He's great with them. He's great with everyone actually. Even Solas who I generally find boring. It's cute how Dorian tries so hard to get on his good side, although I hate that Solas is such a dick to him needlessly.

Yes!!!!  Solas is such an ass despite Dorian trying repeatedly to be friends.

I got the feeling that later on he sort of warms up a bit to Dorian. The "nondescript" vs "can't hear you over your outfit" bit was hilarious. And, isn't Dorian one of the very few companions that manage to get Solas to actually not be all broody and whatnot? :P Don't remember the banter, though I imagine Varric does it too. Still. It's one more bit of Dorian being fabulous.

It's also possible I'm confusing my own headcannon with the game lol... but it is confusing at times... the banter portrays an evolving relationship between characters, and then you go talk to one of them and bam! he/she completely goes back to 0 and starts yammering about how x or y are bad... wth lol (example I can think of right now: Dorian & Blackwall. from the banter I got a sort of developement, mutual respect even... but then you go and ask Blackwall about companions, and on the 58th answer he says something like "the less I think about Dorian the better" in a tone similar to what he had in the beginning of banter)

I like how many banters broach recent events in the game on a personal level and the characters involved seem to be supportive to each other. Cassandra, mainly. She has that sort of a motherly trait.

I thought Relenus was a place when I first heard it mentioned - as though it was a memory of what had happened at a particular location. No idea why I thought that.

Still, my favourite banter has to be the "wishing but wondering" conversation with Cole; Dorian comes perilously close to being sappy in public. After all the prodding about his father, it was nice to see a subject that Dorian was so happy to discuss, he didn't even object to the mind-reading (and mind-reading his thoughts around the time he was having sex, at that - compare that to his IB romance comments). And Cole comes across as adorably delighted when he sees how happy Dorian is - he even does the Spirit equivalent of a squee at the end!

Yes!!!!  Solas is such an ass despite Dorian trying repeatedly to be friends.

I really liked the fact that Dorian goes out of his way to be friendly, unwittingly (or not?) playing the ambassador for Tevinter. I did cringe whenever he stepped on a landmine with Solas. You can't really predict what will set Solas off the first time through the game - Fenris and Anders were both grumpyguts, but you knew where their berserk buttons were, while Solas (along with Sera) isn't as straightforward. It was interesting that Dorian was changing tactics to try and lighten the mood, switching between joking and genuine intellectual conversation, but every time I head Solas' voice reply, my thought was "oh no, what's he going to get his head bitten off for this time?"

I wonder if Solas and Blackwall have the same problem with Dorian - that he's unashamedly true to himself and upfront about his past, despite a heritage that makes him a default "bad guy", while they're both hiding something terrible while in the role of pure-hearted "good guys"?

Although frankly, the Tevinter = slaves thing was never going to help Dori's case.

Dorian was a real surprise for me in the game. I really liked his character and back story. The guy has a heart of gold and is the only companion that ACTUALLY saved my life (In Hushed Whispers quest). That one scene where he talks about leaving home and my character responded by telling him he was brave to walk his own path was so awesome. Dorian kind of pauses and is obviously moved by the sentiment, so touching.

I didn't really give him much time till my second PT and he's now probably my BFF going forward in all my future play throughs.

His friendship felt the most real to me, cause traveling through time together is some serious business.

Does anyone know what tarot card Dorian's romance card is supposed to be based on?

I believe Chariot.

I believe Chariot.

Yup, Chariot (checked the deck just in case). I think it's the "master opposing forces" thing (integrity vs power, love vs duty, Tevinter vs the South).

Is there any significance in the white thing - I think it's a flower - in his hand? Or is it just a standard peace/love motif? Whatever it is, it looks squished.

First time I saw the card, I thought he was holding the Inquisitor's glove under his chin, although the consensus seems to be that the Inquisitor's hand is in the glove, resting on his chest. Zero out of ten for observation for me...

Viper signifies magic, as you see if in Vivienne's as well, which basically also shows how he openly uses magic and has no restraint on it. The snake isn't even poised to attack Dorian, it's just there entangled across his body, but the danger is sitll there.

And yeah, the flower, in my mind, is his love for you, but it's being tainted/threatened by the viper.

And you're not alone on the glove! I didn't even recognize it at first, just thought the black was the snake. But yeah, it's the Inquisitor's hand touching his chest with Dorian's amulet wrapped around the fingers.

They should've kept him being gay a secret but i guess EA decided to use gays now as a PR marketing stunt for those squealing Tumblr Twilight sparkle vampire morons.

Also if Dorian being gay was kept a secret and some player get angry claiming Bioware tricked them guess what theyre morons too.  All in all i get the feeling gays and other minority are gonna be Biowares future PR stunt "Buy this game cause we got a black homosexual!! See how inclusive we are?!?!"

By having a black gay man, they are inclusive (I'm guessing you're referring to Steve Cortez). Why shouldn't they advertise that?

Considering Bioware is the only big company that makes an effort to be inclusive towards the glbt community, there's no problem with them using this as PR, it's actually very good that they do so. Hiding it would imply there's something wrong with it, but I guess you didn't think that far.

PS: Yes I know there's Skyrim too, but that's inclusive* not really inclusive... where the * means that you can enter a gay marriage and all is good, but otherwise the gays are invisible. Not cool. (there may be other games too, anyway, nothing like the level Bioware is on in terms of progress)

In Elder Scrolls Online there's a metric **** ton of same sex couples in quests, though. No point in comparing Bethesda with Bioware, they're both great companies that unfortunately show how far US studios are behind.

But the viper in Dorian's hand has such a tame and harmless expression...as though your love for Dorian had tamed the wild side of his nature. Hm...

Yeah cause whoring out the LGBT community as a PR stunt shows how "progressive" you are. and by the way I dont think Steve Cortez got any marketing only Kaiden got marketed as a gay love interest (Who the hell would choose kaiden over cortez??).

Oh? I need to look that up. Never played ESO and wasn't aware there are gay npcs about. From what I had seen on YouTube it seemed to me to be identical to Skyrim. Anyway, will check this. Thanks.

Yes, when there's no logical argument just use words like "whoring", surely everyone will see you're right.

Anyway, can you stop trolling Dorian's topic please? Send me a private message if you really want to debate* this further.

I think the hand appears in all romanced companions.

At first I thought the flower was an origami crane. I do remember in a war table successful war table mission Maevaris says something like hopefully Dorian is doing well despite the cold weather and that's he's always been a green house Orchid.

I guess that flower is an orchid?
