Dorian has a lot of great moments. As I mentioned in another thread:

I liked a lot of Dorian's stuff like how FREAKED OUT he is by Corypheus and ashamed. You're kind of "meh" about the whole thing but he's deeply disturbed because he's never once believed the Tevinter were responsible for the Blight and now he more or less has it confirmed for him that, "yes, you were."

It goes almost without passing because to everyone BUT a mage of Tevinter, Corypheus is just a stereotypical Magistar Dark Lord.

But to Dorian, it's like finding out one of his ancestors was Hitler.

And everyone knew it but him.

I also liked his half-hearted defense of slavery.

"It's just like something which exists. You have poverty, so you're just as bad."

And I'm like, "I've played Origins dude. I know the difference between slavery and poverty. Trust me, the elves in Denerim's alienage know too."

Yeah liked that aswell that Dorian really reacted to Cory just because from Cory's existance so much of what Dorian was told in his life before really is not true. It can make him wonder what else "might" not be entirely what he's been told.

Cole's banter with Dorian. One of the exchanges has Cole mentioning Relenus.

http://dragonage.wik...ki/Dorian_Pavus

Aaah that banter, I never quite heard what Cole said at the beginning of the sentence.. so it was a name :P

By the bye,

how happy I am that they did not go with these sideburns and/or the longer hair for Dorian.

It's also doubly unsettling because he thinks of Southerners as ignorant savages who ignore civilized Tevinter's good qualities.

Corypheus kind of shows, "You know, we actually are REALLY EVIL."

Gah... Long hair would have been so bad for me... I don't like long hair on guys... ugh :P The fancy sideburns, I might have survived with... But then again I don't really care for facial hair, more then a shadow so yea...

Another cool bit I liked was Dorian being shocked when you suggest he and Felix were perhaps lovers.

He's scandalized by the notion when you could be asking causally.

It's funny because in Southern Thedas, homosexuality is no big deal.

But you just asked a major taboo up in his land, even if he's gay himself.

One thing Dorian does that took me a while to catch on was his kinda bitchy digressions about people/things/decorations, which he usually used to mask his feelings and worries. At first I couldn't tell if he was just being a dick, but it becomes more obvious as you go along -- even the Inquisitor can call him out on it a few times, most recently in the love scene, when he's criticizing the room instead of asking the obviously much more important question on his mind. And if you break it off with him there, when he does it again while promptly picking up his clothes and leaving... Not that anyone could actually choose this option and not reload immediately  :crying:  The way he tries to maintain some dignity in his voice, while obviously being crushed  :crying:

During the celebration dinner, when you can talk to the companions. It is unfortunate, but Dorian has proven to be a particularly buggy companion.

Do you think it's a bug that Dorian can't stay unless you don't talk to him? Has anyone asked the devs or writers about that? I'll obviously go for that option once I'm up to that point in this pt, but even if Dorian leaves eventually I'll just headcanon that my Quizzy is in the shadows assassinating all of Dorian's political rivals while he begins his domination of Tevinter  IIRC he offered something to that effect (minus the domination) when he heard of my pc's specialization (only he and Leliana had anything to say).

I believe you always get the dialogue that he might leave, but never that he is leaving - if you're still in a relationship with him in the end.

It seems like a lot of people really like Dorian. On different gamingsites and here. It makes me happy, considering how touchy a lot of people are regarding homosexuality.

Certainly a evolution since the bigot reaction to Anders in DA2.

I think a lot of the crying over Anders was "omg a gay hit on me!" Which was unwanted, because they were straight. Which is something every woman deals with, sometimes on a daily basis, and no one ever considers that she doesn't want to be hit on, just like the straight dude doesn't want to be hit on by a man.

I liked Anders and his forwardness, and it makes sense to get a hit on approval over turning him down. Most people will feel bad at being turned down.

So I think they took the "safe" route. No one hitting on you, the relationship is all on the PC. Kinda sad, I think.

I think the only players who don't like him are gay males ironically

Well, I usually am a lurker here but I just have to say I adore Dorian so much! Dorian was BFF with my female mage on my first PT. She romanced Cullen and it was amazing! I didn't think anything could top it, but now I'm on my second PT romancing Dorian with my human rogue. It is just as great, if not better! For DAO & DA2 my canon pairing was always so easy but this time it is so hard! I have a feeling I will always end up romancing Dorian from now on though. hehe

Yeah, I really miss having the companions flirt first. I think that is why I like the second, alternative 'first kiss' scene for Dorian, where he kisses you first. Plus, the snark him & the inquisitor have.  Thanks to someone who posted that here or I would have missed it!

I'm not usually one for m/m (just isn't my cup of tea) but after my first Inquisitor befriended Dorian I was compelled to make another character for him, because the poor guy needs a hug.

Also, does anyone else want to me Mama Pavus in the future? From Dorian's description of her it could be quite entertaining.

I'm a gay male and he's easily one of my favorite Dragon Age characters to date.

Scratch that, one of my favorite video game characters in general.

Isn't Dorian's mother from a family that doesn't even like the Pavuses and vice versa?

I don't think there was a family feud. It's just that Dorian said his mother and father don't like each other.

But it would be interesting to hear her side of the story with Dorian's estrangement.

I think some gay men resented the gaynst given a lot of people like Dragon Age because it's where being gay is no big deal.

But I think he's very popular in some circles.

Due to the lack of mentioning his mother and always talking about his father and pleasing him. And it was also his father that wrote and met up with him personally. I guess that maybe she's not too loving and maybe indifferent towards him.

Yeah, I think he only mentioned her once and it was not the most flattering comment about her. I definitely got the sense that he was much closer to his father.

That's a misconception, though. It varies by country and even in the more tolerant places, it's still considered an oddity. It's just not criminalized anywhere and there's no religious dogma against it. Even before DAI and WoT, there was evidence of it. Leliana, Zevran, and Anders all are hesitant or defensive about their sexuality at first. Isabela's the only one who's completely unabashed about it, which is fitting since she comes from the most socially open-minded country in Thedas. (Fenris and Merril don't talk about it at all.)

And Dorian doesn't have any angst over his sexuality. He accepts himself. It's his father and Tevinter culture that has the problem.
