I wasn't a fan of it at first, but now I'm pretty fond of the stache and his face looks so odd to me without it.

 

He looks a lot younger without it, though. More evidence that he's definitely under thirty, in my opinion.

 

D: No, just no. Some men just need facial hair. A friend of mine is like that. He always had a beard and looked quite attractive with it. One time he shaved it off and it was shocking just how different he looked, he looked like a naked mole rat! Everyone told him to never clean shave again.

 

I don't think this beard-less Dorian is quite as bad, but to me he looks much, much better with the stache.

Anyways, those who have done several romances. I wanna try Solas and Cassandra, but I don´t want to spend another 100 +++ hours again per playthough. Can you "race through the game" only doing the quests (and not run aimlessly around closing fade rifts and looting temples) and still get a good ending? Or is having the fade rifts etc essential for the ending? I just wanna spend like max 50 hours or something... 

 

Lets hope Dorians persuasive face does not make my Inq wanna jump his bones instead of Cassandras. It will be hard.

The side quests have no barring on the main quest, as far as I've seen. The companion quests do alter some things, though, but I never consider those side quests.

As long as your level is decent enough, and you have enough power to unlock the quests you are good.  Nothing really impacts the ending but your major story choices.

I come seeking advice, Dorian fans.

 

I'm still wrapping up my current playthrough, but I'm looking ahead to my next one. I know I want to check out the Dorian romance next and I've pretty much settled on rolling a Dalish elf. I was originally gonna go Qunari for the whole Qunari/Tevinter dynamic, but have heard the cutscenes are just... too, too distractingly bad because of the height difference, so... I think I'm saving my Qunari run for Iron Bull.

 

That made me wanna roll Lavellan again (even though I've just done a female one with Solas) because of the whole Tevinter slave dynamic. Am curious to see if Dorian's thoughts on slavery in his homeland change at all if he's in a relationship with an elf. Did not seem to on the friendship arc... and not that I'm actually trying to change his mind... I'm largely just curious to see how/if the dialogue changes between friendship and romance.

 

But I'm torn on class, which is where I'm seeking input. Originally, I thought about doing a sword & shield warrior since I just played a duel-dagger rogue and because I've always really liked the "squishy mage with non-mage protector" dynamic... but not sure I want to roll melee like this back-to-back. Also seems a little awkward for the Dalish... I mean, I know they have warriors, but I usually think of hunters/archers when I think of them.

 

So, then I flip-flopped over to archer. Even though that would be back-to-back rogues, it'd be more support/crowd control than melee. Plus, I really enjoyed archery in DA2 (in DAO, not so much). Thus, the idea of hanging back with Dorian and dealing damage while the others do the melee held intrigue.

 

And then a sudden thought popped up last night - what about Knight Enchanter mage? That's back to a sort of melee style again, BUT it has the dynamic of a Dalish taking it, which has ties to the ancient elven Arcane Warriors. Plus, there might be a neat dynamic for Dorian hooking up with not only an elf but an elf mage. 

 

But I'm still torn. I could see myself equally going with any of these builds. Any recommendation based on fun you've had with the classes or if you think the relationship dynamic may change based on class spec? I know Solas had slightly different flirts at first based on if you were a warrior, rogue, or mage... so, curious if Dorian has a similar deal going on.

 

The thought of an elven mage also makes me wonder a thing about Tevinter. When talking with Dorian, you learn that the non-mage class (and the slave class, IIRC?) usually hopes to have a mage child so their status (or, at least, their child's status) can be elevated. But would that apply to elves, too, or just humans? Applies to slaves, too, or just the non-mage class?

It's just that lighting sucks in this game, generally. I want to cry half of the time I look at my pc because he looks so damn ugly with his blonde hair and pale skin, especially in the begining of the game (because it's too bright and there's snow everywhere). And half of the time I look at him and think damn, he's pretty handsome.

It's very complicated. xD

 

I have that issue, too, and I didn't even give him pale skin.  But it really bugs me that I can't change his hair.  I realized, ten or so hours in, that I loathe it, and there's no way to change it.  I don't really want to start over now that I'm 90 hours in.

I really wanna like Dorian/Cullen. I never minded uncanon ships but this one kinda irks me since some people doing it are also the ones saying Dorian/F!anything is an abomination and -can't- ever be made, fanfic/art etc. So it's soured the idea of anything non canon for me in this game.

People are stupid. If you're doing Dorian because you really really want him then go for it! I'd you're doing it because gay=bad, you should feel bad but ultimately have at it! Ugh, just drives me nuts.

While I personally don't like the Cullen/Dorian ship, it's still called FANfiction for a reason. It's what the player wants to see and what they really enjoy. If somebody gets offended, just throw a fireball in their face in the next chapter. Fireballs are known to fix any problem.

Eh, I don't really see an overlap between those two demographics. And I'm jumping on board less because I think they're soulmates (although I do genuinely find them cute together) and more because it's really the only palatable option that's been popularly embraced. Everything else with Dorian is either Dorian/Bull (which I find emotionally abusive and therefore can't stand) or Dorian/Lavellan, which isn't nearly as big of a deal as Bull, but would probably be my least favorite Inquisitor for him because of Dorian's Thedas style white guilt over what Tevinter did to the elves. Even if it's coming from Dorian's best intentions, personally I have a hard time imagining Dorian treating Lavellan as an equal. Which might not be a troublesome dynamic for anyone else, but I'm not a fan.

I don't really care for the ship either but they're both hot so... I'm not above being shallow. I'd never read fics but pics are okay. Still bug me a bit but whatever I guess.

I think that's why ultimately I ship my Inquisitor with Hawke since they're both "mine" and what I say would basically be my canon and not a fanfic. Trying to figure Dorian in there too since I do like him overall but I imagine he'd be hella jealous. Does Dorian comment on a relationship with Bull? I should go look.

Ugh, I wanna make a new playthrough to romance him again, but my internet is down til i get a new router and i refuse to play with a default world state took me three pts (upwards of 190 hours OTL) to determine what i want to be my "canon".

Hope you don't mind me ducking in for a Dorian fix. He doesn't love me this playthrough, and that's got me bummed. He was Cadash's best friend in my first playthrough and I adored it. They were just friends, but it was kinda her and Dorian against the world, and it made me happy. This time, I was running a Trevalyan and she did Champions of the Just instead of In Hushed Whispers... and he just doesn't seem as fond of her this time around, despite gaining his approval in other ways.

 

Anyway, just dropping by to share some love for Dorian (and hope that Trevalyan's relationship with him improves). Friendship is important, and Dorian's in particular is a very satisfying friendship to have.

I'm stuck playing mage, his comments about it is generally just about people's perceptions and thinking it peculiar how "ok" people are with a mage in such a powerful position as the inquisitor. I figure if you pick necromancy he'll have something more to say, but for the other two specializations I got naught.

Yeaaaaah, I saw that. I was around when the whole Kaidan/MShep thing came out in ME1 though and that was such a mess. It's interesting that they were gonna let Cullen canonically go that way but I'm not touching that AT ALL. That's a minefield I want no part of! I'm happy to blissfully ignore all of it and be glad we got Dorian(and Bull for variety I suppose)
