Starting a new playthrough, was planing on romancing Josephine and then...

Spoiler

End up romancing Dorian, AGAIN.

SOMEONE! ANYONE! SEND HELP!

*Hands you a pamphlet*

Take a seat, have some punch. We'll talk about how you don't need help shortly.

Because I and a few other people are in the same boat. :P

Yup, DEFINITELY in the same boat here, I haven't been able to romance anyone else since romancing Dorian... And I've been a Cullenite since Origins! But I kinda anticipated this would happen, which is why I made sure to romance Cullen on my first Playthrough. Thought I'd get around to it again, but... Dorian

Games are getting to the point where the little things start sticking out a LOT more than they used to. The whole uncanny valley thing I guess. Oh well.

Lords of the Fallen did it pretty well imho:

Spoiler

I took that screenshot for future reference on the game.

I have fallen victim to Dorian romance. Whenever I create a male Inquisitor, I try to convince myself into trying Cassandra's or Josephine's but keep failing everytime. The only reason I was able to romance Cullen, Solas and Bull was because of Femquisitor //sad laugh

I'm surprised because I was put off by the moustache at first; like no, you don't know how big of a turn-off that is for me. Yet somehow he charmed my Inquisitor off his pants and just won over my heart forever.

...I can feel the fanart coming. Goodbye artblock, Dorian is here.

The snake represents Tevinter and Dorian's heritage in all three cards. (It is Tevinter's mascot that way lions are for Orlais and dogs are for Ferelden.) It's poised to strike in his post-personal quest card because that's when the audience finds out this his relationship with his homeland is more insidious than Dorian initially leads you to believe. It's not just a difference in politics or ethics, Tevinter culture almost caused him literal harm, but it's still not something he can separate himself from. He'll keep the snake and his cultural identity, even if if bears him ill-will. Horses tend to represent movement and action, so I would guess Dorian's horse illustrates that after speaking with his father, he has closure with how he left Tevinter and plans to move forward with his life.

The snake is more docile in the romance card because the Inquisitor gives Dorian what Tevinter culture told him he could never have. The Inquisitor tames the snake and the emotional baggage that Tevinter left Dorian with.

Aha this makes a ton of sense. Thank you!

I must admit though, I love Dorian, the balance his character has is excellent, I just really hate that necromancy spec because it has no synergy what so ever with my team composition >.>

People are figuring out how to do texture replacement (the Skyhold uniform to be precise). Maybe someone will make some small modifications to the character texture to add a bit of hair? I'd like some, about half what's in your screenshot there.

Oh, gosh. Does his kissing cinematic not work well with dwarves? I was going to romance him with my dwarf.

probably too late to answer, but I shall anway.  The first kiss I was referring too is pretty bad:

the rest of the scenes work just fine though.

This has happened to me with a human Inquisitor too, though - like the faces didn't properly meet. After I loaded a save and tried again, everything worked just fine. So it might not be just a race problem...

I really like Dorian's character but dear Maker the Necromancer spec Is a pain:

"Damnit Dorian, we just killed a Pride Demon and you decide to resurrect a nug to help us fight?"

"Dorian, you just resurrected the keep's door. It's an inanimate object, it was never alive or dead in the first place how in the world can you even do that?"

"Dorian, you have two jobs. Maintain the barrier and light things on fire."

While I'd normally agree, I micromanage so I never had issues using key abilities properly. But that awful horror ruins my team's synergy. Thing is Solas is far too superior with his pull of the abyss but I really don't like taking Solas with me.

See, I get around that by being the rift Mage. I pull them together, set off a walking bomb, and watch them fall.

Yup it was MUCH easier with my ex-canon rift mage. But no game has ever allowed me to connect so much to my character, and I connect more being a rouge than a mage so I had to change things up. Hell I'm rerolling now because I decided I should give my Inq brown hair and eyes  :P Honestly my inquisitor is the closest thing a game has ever gotten to my personality and thought process, albeit my Inquisitor is 1000x more attractive and much better built (In truth the male elf build is probably the same build I have in real life and it makes me very insecure >.>).

Fair enough, I've always connected to the mages more, so it has been easy to get into the Mage Inquisitor. Haha, I am pretty sure the Inquisitors are going to be way more attractive than most people (unless they work to make the Inquisitor's ugly) and don't worry you are talking to another short person as well (hmm, maybe that is why I never play as elves).

Yeah, I don't really understand how bioware does it, but up until now, in every DA game, my relationship with my fave went something like this:

Before game comes out

Alright, bioware, wtf? -> He/She is annoying me already -> Gnarf

Game nearly out

Okay, not half bad -> Pretty alright I guess -> Manic research of each and every snippet and pic

Game out

OMG I'LL NEVER BE HAPPY AGAIN *sobs*

Odd, I actually think the AI handles Necro pretty well. I disable Horror (costs way too much mana for it's effectiveness), and have him mainly use Walking Bomb, Wall of Fire and Immolate. Nice meaty chunks of enemies everywhere ^_^ Also, if Spirit Mark gets to be a pain, just switch to him and cast it when it's red, it'll kill the spirit summon. It was KILLING me taking him with me to, say, Hissing Wastes, and having to wait for his resurrected Pride Demons to lose HP before I could close the fade rifts... And when you combine the fact that Pride Demons have huge HP thus are usually the last demon standing with Walking Bomb/Spirit Mark's huge residual damage, he was usually the one to get the last hit and turn it into his summon -_-

Necro/Fire is great, especially with that necro passive that gives a damage+ against panicked enemies (his specialty). It synergized awesomely with my Roguequisitor early/mid-game (before he had enough gear to be a solo crit machine), with Mercy Killing guaranteeing crits against panicked enemies. Sadly on my run now which I intend to be my "canon", I don't think there will be much synergy (KE/Fire, we'll get rekt by fire resistant dragons)

I like his spec too, although I don't put points in Spirit Mark because of how annoying it can be. Horror/Inferno making everyone run around screaming makes them extremely easy to shoot arrows into.

Also throw down a static cage, use horror, and watch the enemies shock themselves to death (or almost to death)

I can't believe I haven't tried this.

Also I must be the only one who didn't mind Spirit Mark at all :P It's fun having a pride demon fight for you :P

Yuup! It's really admirable though, BioWare supports my view of the world. In other words, you have to dig deep to find out what kind of a person someone else is. It doesn't require good looks for them to become likeable for you. They win you over with their personality.

I like Dorian but two things bother me.

1. He has slaves
2. He's Tevinter

Now Im a little over point #2 because Dorian seems to somewhat resent his Tevinter heritage but I'm not cool about slavery.

no, he doesn't have slaves, he even states that in game. His family has slaves, but he never owned someone.

Yeah, Dorian's flaws is what I like about him. He wasn't a stereotypical"out with all the old ways" type of reformer that I originally thought.

He has plenty of room for growth and his time with the Inquisition has made him think about a lot of things

Hmm, I never had a problem with Dorian's horror spell or spirit mark. The second one can be easily used to kill the ghost mob resulting. And the first, was only visible when I was fighting 1 creature. Probably because when fighting multiple targets, the walking bomb kills everything so fast they don't have time to run away lol. (also, late game I had him with walking bomb and lightning cage on preferred, which meant horror and spirit mark were almost never used)

And I played as KE twice... still had no problem even though KE's spirit blade roots you in place during the animation so if mob moves you're left standing there swinging at air lol.

I keep him always in party mainly for... reasons lol. Like, I would have made an effort to take him along even if he wasn't the best mage companion. But thing is, imo he really is better then Solas. Solas does a lot of weakness and the pull... yawn... Dorian kills everything really fast with walking bomb and does some cc... plus damage increase for party with one of the skills (horror I think? can't remember)... way better  B)

Hmm. I should own this game. :P I agree though. The hair and veins and such make it look MUCH more realistic than the plastic DA bodies :/ I'd be fine with even less hair(or more!) but just something that gives the skin some texture.

The Horror skill makes the enemies unkillable in my game(( They turn green and  fight as my allies! or ran around like random NPCs,the only way i could kill them was with area attacks. So i decided not to spec him in necromancy at all :D  Though i just may be dumb and dont understand how it actually works
