I really like Dorian's character but dear Maker the Necromancer spec Is a pain:

"Damnit Dorian, we just killed a Pride Demon and you decide to resurrect a nug to help us fight?"

"Dorian, you just resurrected the keep's door. It's an inanimate object, it was never alive or dead in the first place how in the world can you even do that?"

"Dorian, you have two jobs. Maintain the barrier and light things on fire."

Did he really ressurect a nug? I ask because I bought a big, golden one and for it to come to life would be cool. :) ;)

When Dorian was first announced, I kinda rolled my eyes at Bioware. "You're going to try to make me sympathetic to ****** Tevinter? Get real!" I wasn't really interested- Cullen though, I was definitely curious. Solas, a bit. Then they announced that he wasn't going to be a typical Tevinter magister. I was still pretty dubious though. As I learned more about him over time (I didn't follow closely, didn't want too many spoilers, and the game was so long out that I didn't want to hype myself and then just be pissed off I had to wait two years or whatever), he got more interesting. I wasn't about to squee over him, but I was like, "Okay, I guess this dude might be all right."

I left the forums for a year. Like I said, it was just irritating how long it was going to be before the game came out, and the constant "omg there's going to be more GAYS in the game, wtf bioware, straight men are your primary audience!" got tedious, so I said **** it, I'm out, despite both David and Allen being on top of that **** when it went down.

I think it was about 3 weeks before release that I came back to the forum, read up on the companions, learned that Dorian was not only a gay companion, utterly fabulous, but also all his previously assumed annoying Tevinter gunk wasn't actually going to be that annoying. So, he's my favorite character in the game, followed by Cullen and Cassandra. I actually like less than half the people we got this time around compared to previous games, so I was worried I wasn't going to care for any of the romances. Playing a male character, I think Dorian is the only one I'll likely end up romancing (I like Cassandra, but not in a romantic way- and Cullen... damn you BW for not following through, he would have been fricking amazing as a m/m option).

And the lack of gay male elf option really bums me out. Like, really really annoys me.

The only thing that would make Dorian better is if he was an elf. But then he wouldn't be Dorian, so I am okay with that. It would be funny if I could tell him that, though!

Used mods to make Alistair hairy - turned out very nice indeed. Dorian does need some I'd say.

Skyhold outfit texture replacement. Get it from the Nexus

Spoiler

I got the DAI tool installed, but it is a bit buggy, and I still feel rather shitty from being sick, so didn't put a whole lot of effort into it. I can easily find Dorian's base armor- the stuff he wears at Skyhold, or if he has no armor equipped- but I couldn't find his skin. I wouldn't think they'd use the same skin across multiple meshes, since they aren't all the same skin tone, but I can't find it either way. If I can, I could try adding in some hair. When I feel better, I'll try again.

Either way, with Frostbite supposed to be notoriously difficult to mod, there is some progress thanks to a coder building a program from scratch. That's not easy.

Oh, how do I wish I could draw so I could make elfquisitor/Dorian fanart. (And my elves together, because I still adore that visual, too).

That's pretty cool. I really like the snake motif on Dorian's sarong. And that they gave him a sarong to begin with. More South Asian influence is always a win in my book. (Red and maroon together, I'm not so sold on, though.)

Sometimes I tell myself I'm going to get into fan art, but then I'm always too lazy to follow through. That and I've always been more of a 3D person and drawing isn't really my forte.

This all because I was entirely too late to the party. I just got my copy and console not too long ago, though, since I just got to saving up the money for both. Ugh, it was such a hassle and I was literally dying because I couldn't play Inquisition and romance Dorian. ;_; It was too much for me to handle, so I took a lengthy hiatus away when I discovered I wouldn't be able to play the game the moment it came out. But, now I have it, so never fear, some obscure guy who posted a few times in August/September is back from the dead!

This is all under a spoiler because I know, if I had read it before I had gotten to the part, I would have died cause it woulda spoiled it for me. >_> I might be 1 in a million, though. So... *shrug* You know, I probably am, knowing myself, but better safe than sorry?

Spoiler

Also, Dorian is probably going to be the only person I romance ever in my playthroughs. 'Tis a shame, but, unless they whip out a M/M Cullen mod soon, no one's getting any Quizitor booty but Dorian.

As a side note: I fully support Dorian/Cullen ship. Cullen will forever be shy and oblivious in romantic situations for me, even if I haven't romanced him yet, and the fact that I can imagine Dorian being his usual sassmaster self with Cullen and being an utter tease just to see Cullen blush is seriously the cutest thing I've ever headcanon'd.

Totally. Dorian teases Cullen about the most nonsensical stuff (mostly on his fashion sense should he wish to rile him up and get him beet red for a different reason *cue angry make up sex*) that comes off as snarky flattery that only Dorian (or Tony Stark) could pull off so that he can witness Cullen fumble over his words and turn a bright, beet red before wandering off to, "...adjust that soldier's sword grip because he's got his fist wrapped around the shaft entirely too tightly... oh, uh. I mean..." and trails off as he stomps away.

"What was that about?"

"Oh, nothing, just the sound of you missing out entirely."

"Maker dammit... I had first dibs. That's no fair."

EDIT: Also, I've not had a problem with Dorian yet, though I have been having fun turning random crap into spirits. Regardless, I've mostly found his Horror to be helpful in at least getting large mobs off of anyone that wasn't Blackwall or Cassandra, though I did have the issue of having everyone just stand there for a moment while the mobs panicked and I ran around chasing someone just one hit away from death. Other than that, no not really.

Does anyone have any advice for how to build Lightning/Necro on Dorian, since I seemed to have gone that way without knowing how well Fire/Necro worked. ._. I seem to have given that to Vivienne. I gave Solas ice and so far that synergizes extremely well with his Rift Magic crud, what with that Fist + Winter's Grasp combo that I can't get enough of when I bring him + Dorian along. I find he's the squishiest of the three, though, but I may be building him wrong. Dorian's self-healing seems to be working in my favor, as he seems to die the least of the three mages when I bring Viv or Solas along (seeing as my Quizzie is a rogue).

Also, I know this isn't the place, but I thought I'd ask: where the hell do I get the specializations because I'm having an extremely hard time finding them. >_<

Great post :) More Dorianites is always good lol.

Anywho, for specializations, as soon as you reach Skyhold, there's a War Table mission available "Specializations for the Inquisitor" I think it's called. Do that and 3 trainers arrive at Skyhold in the courtyard (you also get a cutscene so you can't miss them). You talk to them and each will give you a requisition to complete.

More details on those you can find on the wiki: http://dragonage.wik...s_(Inquisition)

Lightning/Necro Dorian: I only used the cage really from lightning. His necro skills do enough damage/cc really, and mana is sort of limited, I didn't think it was useful to have too many skills (like fire mine and etc). So I built Necro full, Lightning Cage (this and walking bomb on preferred) and maxed the spirit barrier skills and passives. Also gave him the Fade Step on preferred. That helps a lot with survival on Dragons for example.

Oh and I changed the in Keep relationship for my Hawke from Anders to Fenris too lol.

Necromancer has two spell trees, the last ones on each one sometimes bug Dorian which sucks. The player Necromancer doesn't have this problem. Thankfully you can fix it by taking control of him.

My inquisitor is so weak this playthrough, Dorian ends up carrying me through every fight with his corpse explosions. I pretty much feel like his apprentice by now!

Love all the pretty pictures people have posted!

Fire mine is wonderful when he has it on preferred. I'm KE and distract the mobs while fire explodes under their feet. It's funny. I should give him fade step though since he doesn't use all the fire tree anyway. I have Dorian spec'd with fire since I went with storm for my quizzy mage. I just took down the Western Approach dragon with Vivienne, Dorian, and Bull...and didn't die once. It was awesome - okay and it also helped to upgrade the regeneration potions to heal and revive the entire party, plus a fully upgraded healing mist. Good to know my weed picking wasn't for nothing.

Hey Guys, for my second playthrough I was wondering if it was possible to

"rivalmance" Dorian to a certain extend as DA2 allowes rivalmances.

(Example: Rivalmancing Fenris as a mage can be so very rewarding)

What I have in mind:

Playing a human noble, who shares his family's strong religious believes.

He has spent a very secluded life and only knows what his family has taught him.

So he believes in "the old system". He's naive and hasn't met any mages so far and has

only heard horror stories about them. So naturally he's afraid of them and sees them

as a threat. Until he meets a certain mage from Tevinter that is who will turn

his views on the world upside down...

So the question is, how does Dorian react to Templer support?

What if you start a romance and approval drops too low?

Will there be this special tension that a love-hate relationship provides

(like Fenris rivalmance) ?

Basically my main char would act like a rivalmanced Fenris (strong feelings against mages but can't help fall in love with one)

and the question is how well the game, i.e. Dorian's romance reflects on that.

A thousand times "yes" to all that! lol!!  Fenris is my canon romance. I've always play it out that after his night with Fenris he would sleep with Anders or almost sleeps with him. If I sleep with him I just reload to keep the romance with Fenris going.

I was actually surprised at how good looking Hawke is when you just remove the ugly hair and hobo beard. I'm actually kinda shipping him with my Quizzy. lol!

@Shandyr, I hope so because I think I just screw up before anything got started.  I sided with the Temps and made them full allies like I did in my last playthrough so I began talking to Dorian when I get him to skyhold. Perhaps I talked to him too much before doing his War table missions and Venatori quest because I got the "Lashing out like a caged Dragon" speech and the option to kick him out the Inquisition. lol!!

I don't even know what I did!

I'm hoping I can win him back. I haven't flirted with him at all in this play through cause I wanted to save it for later but I sort of wonder if that was a mistake.

From what I understand you really can't rivalmance people in this game, in order to start a romance the approval has to be high enough to get certain things triggered. You can start a romance and then lower approval, but that really equals the character being ready to break up with you at any moment. There is a video that shows the crisis moment for Dorian in a romance and it is pretty sad actually. I would get it for you, but I am on my phone at the moment

You can side with the Templars and start a romance with him, but it is harder (especially if you met him in redcliffe and he asked for your help).

Did you meet him in Redcliffe before siding with the Templars? That will lower his approval even more than just siding with the Templars. Though I have no doubt you will be able to raise his approval again. He always seemed like one of the more agreeable companions.
