Tempted to write a story about Maevaris visiting Dorian at Skyhold. They can have tea with Viv and judge everyone.

On my first playthrough I never got the perosnal quest about Dorian's family reunion. Now that Id like to try his romance, id ther something I have to do to make sure I dont get that problem again? (im planning to ally the mages, not sure if it makes a diffrence)

It does help, but there can be bug connected to it. I would try to play as normal and by allying with the mages, you should get it almost as soon as you get to skyhold since his approval with be extremely high (also make sure his war table missions are done, I don't know if I ever did that or not with his quest, but apparently it does help). One thing people found that help was by not talking to him too much in Haven (don't ask about Alexius). I never had this problem so I finished his talks in Haven. My suggestion would be to save some of his dialogue for just before the transition from Haven to Skyhold and if it is bugged, reload and don't do those dialogues until Skyhold(this way you would only have to go back maybe an hour instead of multiple hours). Hope that helps!
I'm about to do his romance quest tonight, so excited because I was a fem elf my first pt and missed out on it completely. I have to say, this game has lovely replayability, at least on round two.
And YES to Mr. Gaider please please. I'm reading the stolen throne and the calling again because I love his writing.
On that note, do viv and dorian have good banter when they're out and about? I think viv bugs my banter because my party is always fearfully silent when she's around. I'd love to hear two of my most lavish companions chatting it up.
Dorian and Vivienne have hilarious banter, maybe some of my favorite. They are extremely snarky, both to each other and to others. It is up on youtube and worth a listen.

Aww, I really like that one, but I also like the one about Antiva and the one about wines. Their voice actors are brilliant together.
So what colors did you all use when it came time to make Dorian new armor? I found myself putting him in red or green when he was not in his classic white.
Oh and I remember seeing it discussed already but I can't remember what pages. I'm really sad about Dorian leaving for Tevinter. That conversation sucked. Ultimately I did what I thought was the right thing for my character to say he understood if Dorian needed to leave. But it's so sad! I'm sure they stay in a relationship, and I imagine them writing letters & lengthy visits. I just couldn't stop him from doing what he thought was right. What did you say to him in that convo, and did he stay or go?

Yeah I also tend to tell him to go if he has to, but after reading some other opinions on why they tell him to stay and my being far more aware of his disapproval in my current play through (I honestly think maybe one or two more disapprovals will do me in lol), I feel more inclined to emotionally blackmail him to stay...if I even get the chance. Dorian is just a bit too compassionate for reforming Tevinter, I just see him getting himself killed. 
I had just finished the "Under her skin" mission and I got a disapproval from Dorian for
He also has a bad habit of wanting to do things on his own with no help and I don't think that is going to equal success in the long run. He refuses the help of a powerful ally (The Inquisitor) because he thinks he needs to prove himself as being more than just the Inquisitor's lover but he doesn't realize that the Inquisitor didn't get where he is without aid. I wish my Quizzy could have told Dorian that when he turned him down.
@Joe, I currently have Dorian wearing Royale Sea Silk w/ Blue Brocade. He looks so darn good.

Just thinking about it makes me laugh really, Dorian must have felt so terrible staring at the puppy eyes. I like to think my Inquisitor's a bit playful and a bit short-sighted at times, so he tends to forget about everything else when he really wants something at the moment. Kind of like a little kid. I can just imagine him grabbing onto Dorian's sleeve and going all "But Doriaaaannn..."

I think most people on the thread said they told him to stay, but a lot included the caveat of saying they wanted him to stay until they convinced him to go with a better plan than go it alone and not die (since most reformers are killed pretty quickly there). I went with that as well, because, while I wanted to support his goal and dream of improving Tevinter, I also didn't want to see him killed because he was being too stubborn to accept help with this incredibly hard task.

Ahh I see...but why the snake too? Snakes are symbols of treachery, no? Is it forshadowing him leaving me potentially, or that his love comes with the price of a bad image being in love with a Vint? He said it a couple of times, people will think he's using quizzy to gain power...
It's the symbol of Tevinter, and the snake in his romance card is docile compared to the other ones.
