I don't think my inquisitor would be standing around if he saw a glowy angry elf lunging for Dorian. Full out 2v2 brawl, who would you cheer for?

My money would have been on Fenris. Dorian would be almost defensless as soon as Fenris got close enough. Fenris is just a bad ass glowing warrior.

Even if you go that route, it's not exactly hard to get him to like you. No worries.

thanks and what about Redcliffe should I go at all?

Or...Fenris would find out Dorian has helped the Inquisition, fought against the Venatori and would consider him a potential ally.

Even being the son of a Magister and such and such.

Well, if it came to that, it wouldn't be a fair fight in my canon. Fenris doesn't have Hawke and the Inquisitor, if need be, would pop a few arrows into him with no hesitation.

Yes, but he can be hot-headed. I think it's entirely possible he mellows out with Hawke though (he certainly does seem to get a bit better with regards to mage Hawke, though he still generally distrusts mages in general). I think once the initial few moments are over and everyone's sat their asses back down, he'd be reasonable.

I have been thinking the same. Fenris would probably try to kill Dorian before Dorian even opened his mouth. I can imagine ghd Inquisitioner just standing there thinking "what the....?!" and Hawke desperatly trying to stop Fenris.

I wonder who would win. Fenris or Dorian?

Neither. My Gale would Spirit Blade Fenris into the next century.

Probably not, that just adds extra disapproval (unless you want that).

Yes, but he can be hot-headed. I think once the initial few moments are over and everyone's sat their asses back down, he'd be reasonable.

I honestly don't think that Fenris would attack Dorian on sight. Fenris is not unreasonable, and I've got several in-game quotes to prove this. He is incredibly bitter and is distrustful of mages, magic, and Tevinter, but he has good reason to be. Even when he first meets Hawke he says "You are not Danarius, whether you are anything like him remains to be seen." And even he understands that mages can be "good and noble" but that it's far too easy for noble intentions to be twisted. Dorian knows this too. I think the only way they would end up fighting is if one or the other attacked first, and I just don't see that happening.

Fenris gets a bad rap. I think that if most players, even pro-mage players, took the time to listen to what he actually says, and to think about it, they would not go on about how much he "hates all mages" and so forth, because it's not accurate. With Fenris, I believe the issue is moreso that magic is the corrupting influence, and that any mage has to prove that they are stronger than that influence. Hawke and Bethany do this, Anders and Merrill do not. It's as simple as that.

Regarding these two, I'm rather more interested in the clash of personalities. After the initial hurdle of distrust from Fenris, and smartass remarks by Dorian, I can imagine Dorian trying to get Fenris to laugh or grudgingly chuckle. Fenris does have a sense of humor, it gives new meaning to "deadpan," but it's there nonetheless. I think they would be fine.

[edit]

I'm sure Dorian would be intensely curious about the whole lyrium thing which... I doubt Fenris would appreciate.

Hmmm.... now that this thread has me thinking about Dorian and Fenris interacting, I can definitely see massive tension at first, but eventually they'd end up with a truce, if not mutual respect. I picture Dorian being the one to try extending an olive branch based on his personality. If left up to Fenris, they'd end on non-speaking terms though.

Most certainly. There is a banter between Solas and Dorian (not on the wiki yet, so I can't quote it) where Dorian is trying to do just that. I thought Solas's response was rather unfair, especially since Dorian made the effort. You can't make progress if you don't try.

I don't know, I'm not seeing them getting along at all. Does Fenris have a non-hostile relationship with any mage except Hawke? And that only because he likes Hawke a lot. Even with Bethany he tells her she's nice but a threat to herself and everyone else. Now I'm imagining that, but with someone who's an order of magnitude more proud and unapologetic about their magic.

And god forbid anyone ever mentions the word slavery.

Oh don't get me wrong, Nightscrawl, I am a devoted Fenris fan, but he can be a total snot sometimes. His friendship romance is my favorite, and I know he can put aside his issues and work with mages. He totally supports my pro-mage Hawke siding with mages, and there's definitely far more to him than people give him credit for. I am sure he wouldn't be thrilled with Dorian, but could eventually accept him, if not like him. I don't think he'd necessarily try to kill Dorian, but he could definitely be aggressive and "broody" until he gets over it. He grows a great deal over DA2 I think.

Fenris? That crazy elf slave that I sent back to Tevinter during the last game?

Nah, I can't see him being a problem at all.

Yep, everyone's always worried about magic, but a good bow will kill you faster than anything else. :)

Poor Dorian. Solas can be such a jerk to him at times. Dorian genuinely tries to be friends, but Solas just isn't having any of it.

Dorian is anti-blood magic and wants to change Tevinter. That alone might get Fenris to see at least something in Dorian that he doesn't hate.  I think that if they talked, Dorian would totally start to think about slavery in his country. He already wants to change things, and spending time with Fenris would definitely open his eyes in that regard.

Dorian has banter with Sera where he says that he's so glad that he got to know her, and she asks if he's ever met an elf who wasn't a slave (besides her and Solas). He says no. So I definitely think that if he met Fenris, he'd have huge moments of self-reflection regarding slavery. Dorian is one of the nicest, friendliest companions in DA:I.  He'd definitely try to befriend Fenris IMO.

I was just thinking about this last night. Yes, Fenris would initially lunge and Dorian would just woah woah it to make the peace. Fenris can be reasoned with sure but he's got some deep seeded issues, and Dorians dialogue about slaves not being that bad off? Oy... would be a wonderful fic!

I didn't have any issues meeting dorian and then picking templars later. He had a little hissy fit in skyhold because of it, but I've romanced him no problem. Definitely do his war room quests, and find some venatori (make sure you bring him along) and he'll be butter in your arms :)

Yeah, I did the same thing one game and proceeded on like normal and had no problem romancing him. He's probably the companion who's bad side is the hardest to get on.
