Oh I thought the bodies weren't so bad.
They've done huge progress on the faces...but I was impressed some companion had their own body language this time.
Edit: By the way , Happy New Year people reading /participating in the Dorian thread!

You're right - the characters all have their own particular stance and gestures. Cassandra always looks like she's seconds away from a battle stance, Bull sprawls comfortably and Vivienne always carries herself upright. Dorian has a number of thoughtful or self-protective little gestures as well (grasping his elbow), and the start of his love scene, where he comes prowling towards the Inquisitor, contrasts sharply with the post-sex talk where he closes his eyes and drops his gaze when he admits that he might not be able to let the Inquisitor go if they don't stop now.
I think we're really talking about scenes of physical contact between characters, where you're working with one or more models - kissing, hugging, touching. Has to be at least twice as difficult to animate if you want to make it look realistic, but it also looks really odd if your "romantic" characters' only physical contact is during short set pieces (once you hit the "flirt" option). Particularly characters like Dorian, who frequently looks like he needs a hug even if your Quizzy isn't romancing him.
And happy 2015 to all!
I think one of the things that disappointed me is the fact they told us you could hug characters in game when they were upset, but it was just Varric if Hawke died (unless it happens again for one of the other characters during their romances and I just missed it). It was a little misleading making it seem that you were going to have more physical interactions with the characters when it actually seemed like less.
Wow, I didn't know about them promising you could hug people to comfort them. I'm suddenly really sad they didn't implement that. Thanks Wanderlust14.
The hugging animation is so nicely done that I really hope we will get the option to hug companions at some point. Who would not want to hug Dorian!
Oh, and why can't he live in my inquisitor's quarters? I have no idea where he sleeps or hangs out when he's not in the library.
Happy 2015 fellow Dorian fans! ![]()

So how the hell do you trigger the scene where Dorian asks if the rumors about them are true? I think I've picked all different combinations during his first personal quest. No flirting before that point, but nothing will trigger that conversation. I either end up with them getting together when back at the library again, or if I wait for Giselle to show up, it's just the boring "click here to begin relationship" that has zero interesting actual content. Getting super frustrated, because that would be such a better way to initiate it with my mage character, but it just never, ever happens.
After going through another thread does anyone know if Dorian's necromancy is inslaving spirits and forcing them into the dead? Or is it more benevolent like making the spirit briefly experience the real world through the dead?
From what I've gathered watching Youtube video about necro spe when you talk with Solas and Cole , you're told , necromancers don't use spirits or demons.Just wisps.
Cole and Solas aren't too happy. It's like pieces of a destroyed spirit or something.
I think Cole tells you to be careful and properly release the wisp in the fade so they can be reborn.
He talks also about Dorian who pulls stuff through , and he's not too happy.
I'll look on the net if I find the video.

Here is the spell description: "You mark a target with an attacking spirit, inflicting ongoing damage. If the target dies while marked, the spirit mimics the victims body briefly to fight on your behalf."
I think this is actually worded a bit poorly. How do you "mark" a target with a spirit, attacking or otherwise? A spirit is a living being (more or less). A spirit can be summoned into a host body and that body can have a negative reaction. That is essentially what is going on here. Dorian is summoning a spirit -- technically briefly enslaving it since spirits don't ask to be summoned -- and when the host body dies the spirit takes on its form to fight with the party for a short time before dissipating and returning to the fade (one assumes).
On my first mage play I picked rift mage because you know... Inquisitor, anchor mark, rifts, all that jazz. Despite angering Solas and Cole, I fully plan on going Necro the next time around. Using the skills through Dorian, especially triggering walking bomb, is way too much fun.
During the talk with Giselle, Dorian will say that there are rumours about him and the Inquisitor being "intimate". This will happen only if you aren't in a relationship with him yet (didn't pick the "Only good things" option during the aftermath of Dorian's personal quest).
I don't know what else you could be talking about.

I know, I was disappointed they didn't go further with that too.
You totally get to hug cullen too, so that's two! Doesn't beating bull with a stick count as physical contact btw? And I believe some punching has been mentioned...
You can? When does that happen (I want to hug Cullen too!)

OH, thank you. I certainly did not see this one then because I picked that line and got my kiss
. Hm... now I'll have to decide which route to take on my next Dorian romance play.
As an additional question, when Dorian comes to your quarters for the first time there is an option for the Inquisitor to say "this is too fast," or something along those lines. Did anyone pick that? How does Dorian take it?
Of course I avoided this option the first time 'round and really wanted to see the romance content. However, I feel that the romance can move a bit quickly and I wouldn't mind picking that, but ONLY if it's not a rejection or ends the romance. Regardless, I rather doubt I'd be able to explain to Dorian exactly what's in my Inquisitor's head at that moment... [limited dialog options are so frustrating at times.]

Yeah, that's the one. I haven't started a relationship with anyone, haven't flirted with him. I did his personal quest, did not choose the flirt option in the tavern, and told him he was brave instead of choosing "only good things." Giselle shows up, Dorian tells her to explain what she means by "rumors" and when it's over, he goes back into his alcove. He doesn't say anything about the rumors, and my only option to start the relationship is the crappy "click here to begin a romance" and all they do is agree while standing three feet apart, no animation or anything.

ERINII is referring to the scene right after the fade out from the Redcliffe tavern when you are back in the Skyhold library. There is more conversation about Dorian and his father, and at that time do you see the "only good things" option. If you pick it you get the first, timid kiss and start the romance, with followup quest for the necklace/family thing.
If you failed to pick other flirts and also did not pick that option, I think that may be your problem and why you got the "press this button to start a romance."
[As an aside, I really wish I didn't have to do that for Cullen. Despite knowing that it's actually appropriate for him (based on personality), I would like it to feel less "gamey."]
Spoiler
Thanks very much. I think I will probably watch that on a reload. I think that the post-sex conversation is too good to pass up in terms of seeing Dorian's thought process about being in a relationship.

I am sure I have seen a video of Dorian saying something like "this makes the rumors true" after they kiss. That's what I'm talking about.
And yeah, I like the post-sex talk more, but the "let's wait" talk is really good, too.
Gotta be in the romance and
Spoiler...very touching...pun intended![]()
Bah, well I guess I am not going to get that hug with my male Inquisitor this time through...oh well!

And whatever you do, don't pick the "lets keep this fun" option during his sex scene. I did and his face was soooo bah, I wanted to cry...and then I reloaded and made up :-) damn frostbite face engine!
Yeah... that's one of those ones I will never pick because I don't want to see it. To this day I've never even looked at the scene where you turn Fenris over to Danarius.
Same here! I forgot it was an option til I saw it in the keep. I think I always purposely zoned it out...that option shouldn't even be there...crazinessYeah... that's one of those ones I will never pick because I don't want to see it.
