Yeah, I think you have to have at least flirted with him before and/or choose the heart icon in the tavern "I've done it before" after asking the "Company of men" question. When you get the cut scene at skyhold don't select the heart icon "Good things" Just tell him he's brave or something. You'll get the argument between him and Giselle. Click on him for the scene. Then you can get an icon and warning that if you pick it the relationship will begin. If you pick the "If you're capable" he'll kiss you and the relationship is supposed to begin. Apparently there is another way that simply involves the two of you talking about having a relationship and it will begin, that one is my least favorite.

Yeah it seems to be bugged :( I'm glad I got to see my Quizzy have that scene but I didn't trust continuing the story with it.

Me too. I'm just going to consider that my canon even though I had to reload and go after him myself. I picture my quizzy as a bit shy and unsure with love so making Dorian the aggressor works so much better.  And it fits with my canon of Dorian taking charge in the bedroom and telling my Quizzy how to "Inquisit" him.  My Quizzy gives orders all day long so it's good to come home and have someone order him about for a change.  I guess I could say that IB would have correct about my Quizzy if I had romanced him, but he would have been so wrong on my guy being cool with the dom/sub thing. My Quizzy wants a partner who tells him what to do, not a master.

Edit: Don't worry about getting the "Flailing Dragon" speech. You can recover from that. I ended up getting it after siding with the Temps (I meet him at the Chanry). So he started out not liking my Quizzy. He officially joined at skyhold then I talked to him too much and noticed that he got testier until he started ranting and I got the "Flailing Dragon" speech. lol!  I just told him I didn't want him to leave, killed some Venatori and did his war table missions and we were good to go.

btw, how do you get the scene of him talking about the family relation? I've heard of it but never got it and I've played nothing but Trevelyans

You have to be a non-mage Trevelyan and I think it may have to happen in Haven. I have only seen it taking place there as part of him getting to know you, but I could be wrong about that.

Also, I may have to do that load and redo with my next play through, that would work for me.

I think I had this line and... I'm a mage.

Though, maybe I'm confusing it at this point, too many videos of DAI for me.

Hmm, I could have sworn it was the non-mage Trevelyan exclusive line, he talks about their lineage instead of chatting with the mages about the rebellion, elves about the Dalish, etc, though I could be wrong. IDK, with all the videos it can be hard to remember what happened where.  :)

I tried romancing Dorian the Alternative way. By having Dorian kiss my Quizzy. It worked and the scene was great but it's like the game didn't even register that we were together. Meaning, I got the "This will begin the romance" warning that allowed Dorian to kiss him, then when I went to talk to Dorian to do the whole "I need to talk to you/Kiss" Instead there was another "This will start the romance" warning. I went ahead and clicked it and got the regular convo to agree to a relationship. Then I tried to get the making out cut scene again. I got the heart option to talk to him I selected the making out dialogue but no cut scene. It's basically the same as the "i wanna spend time with you" option.

Is that a bug or will the making out cut scene not trigger if you pick the alternative path?

I reloaded and began the relationship with my Quizzy kissing Dorian and got the making out scenes no prob.

That sucks. I started romancing Dorian using the Dorian-kisses-first option, and did have the odd "click here to start the romance" option every time after that, but the make-out scene works for me. The option that says something like "we should go hang out" fades to black and does nothing, but the make-out scene works.

The fade to black with the hang out scene is normal. They didn't put any cut scenes for that option or if they did, it is totally bug even with the other way of dating him.

I like the option to hang out, even if it's just the statement. Feels more like a real relationship, who just smooches all day?!?

Yeah, I have no issue with it either. I mean, I would have loved to actually seen what they were doing, but that is just me being greedy, just hearing about what they are going to do works for me.

Does anyone have any favorite images of Dorian as a fashion model? Favorite outfits you've put on him and such?

I was making pinkquisition true in my playtrough so I had Dorian in lovely purple pink outfit and I quite liked how it looked :D

That's odd, why only mention the blood relation to a non mage Trevelyan only?  Was it an attempt to establish some sort of a connection with the non mage noble?  I would think he would have a reason to mention it to a mage. They're from the same bloodline and both have magical talent.....unless the fact that both have magic and from the same bloodline could hit a little too close to home and he wouldn't want to scare off the mage noble? idk.

I had the same thing happen when I did it that way this time. I had to confirm that I wanted to start the relationship afterwards, but then it was fine. Well, my kissing option bugged the first time I tried it, but I left Skyhold and the next time I came back and tried it, it worked fine.

I got it in Skyhold after picking the templars (and after the first "I'm joining the Inquisition" dialog.)

Good to know! I haven't gone templars yet, so I wasn't sure if there was going to be different conversations getting him there.

So I finally got to see the quarters-no-sex scene (the "relationship" version), which I think is a great alternative for RP reasons. That said, I do like the sex version better, and not even because of the sex.

The relationship version is one of surprise, since he wasn't expecting to be turned down, and certainly wasn't expecting the Inquisitor to say that he wants a relationship. The sex version is one of concern and fear of rejection, just as the banter with Cole shows: "Cole: Wishing but wondering, wounded and wistful. What if he doesn't want me after?" I think this is more revealing as far as Dorian's perspective on relationships in general, and of course his relationship with the Inquisitor specifically. It also follows along well with his post-amulet dialog. For all of his carefree attitude about many things, Dorian does dwell on a lot personally, and I think this particular version shows that more clearly.

Man, I love this character so much. I'm not usually so effusive with fictional characters, even Fenris who I adored. I think the only other character I have this much affection for, and attachment to, is Tyrion Lannister. Every scene he is in, regardless of romance, is just great and so well done. I truly can not get enough of Dorian Pavus.

Well now all I can picture is Dorian and Cadash as Tyrion and Bronn, with Dorian as Tyrion:

That would explain it for me, I was wondering about that! I never got the convo with my mage male Trevelyan, but it happened with my female rogue. Though I still like to rp it was Dorian's way of telling her he's not interested :P

Yeah I think it is a non mage piece of dialogue because I have only played Trevelyan mages so far and I've never heard it. I've only known of it from other players

It would make sense, they needed a unique piece of dialogue for the different races and they needed something for Rogue and Warrior Trevelyan to chat about while Mage Trevelyan and Dorian were talking about the rebellion

This is one of the things I love most about him, he truly is a great character. At first it seems like he's a lot like Zevran, only about pleasure, no commitment. Then little by little you learn that it's not by choice, he doesn't really want to live this way. He tries to talk about their relationship casually and appear as carefree, even if it's far from the truth. In the end, he admits that if their affair must end, he'd prefer it now instead of later, because later his already frail heart would suffer even more. Dorian merely wants to protect himself, and is very honest about it, which I appreciate more than anything.

He wouldn't say anything,

he couldn't.

For his heart was more fragile

than the thinnest glass.

I agree with this. I played through the rejection of sex/wanting a relationship scene just to see it, and it's adorable how Dorian kind of walks away as he processes what the Inq just said. The post-sex scene is adorable for another reason, because it shows his vulnerability and fear. I'm not really sure which one I actually prefer, as I feel they are almost equal. Maybe the sex scene, just a bit, so he reveals that vulnerable side more, which doesn't show if you say no to sex and ask for a relationship first.

I just solve the problem and save before going to his quarters so I can load it later if I want to see it again and maybe headcanon they waited and then had a tumble after XD it doesn't make sense with how Dorian approaches him though, but I could just pretend he's doing it again to be cute? Hah.

I so hope that the dlc adds more of the romance stuff, triggers or dialogues with the LI. I need more Dorian.
