Oh good gods, yes. I made a female elf and got to the bridge just so I could have the character ready, and the bouncy butt and dainty hands held out to the sides just... irks me. Okay, so yes, women do have a different center of gravity, and they do walk a little differently than men, but it's not that damn different! The only women I see walk like that seem to be doing it on purpose, because most of them don't.

Oh damn I feel your pain. That (and some similar stupid stuff about the female pc's) is the reason I just can't play them in video games if given a choice.

It's even more aggravating to me since I'm the one, actually, and since I don't really care for "gender-gated" romances...  I could have it all, but nooo. So I can romance Cass and Dorian, but I can't romance Cullen because well, sh*t.  I can't stand female pc in Dragon age that much (and in Dark souls and other rpg games), everything about them irks me.

IMO, it is more puzzling the uncertainty about Dorian's decision on staying or not staying, depending if you talk to him or not at the party.

It is just so strange, I almost feel like that is a bug of some kind.

Oh man, I never noticed it until late in the game when I took control of Sera and started to run around instead of just in a fight and then I couldn't stop noticing it. I really don't know if I can play as a female when the running animation is like that and I'll have to watch it for the entire game, which is unfortunate since I do enjoy switching it up in RPGs and seeing the other contend.

It's even funnier when you realize that... it's Sera. Like, damn. This particular gurl shouldn't do that and yet...

I. Just. Can't.

Oddly enough, perhaps, I identify heavily with Dorian more so in his attitude to his homeland than his problems being gay. His love for Tevinter and how that leads into his wish to see it bettered is a kind of patriotism I strongly sympathise with, especially in the wake of the xenophobic anti-immigration hate train I've recently seen surface. Replaying the game with him in my party has really made me appreciate him so much more.

Also, he's witty. :wizard:

Oh no , he whines.

I listened to his banter on Youtube when you take him to different places.

He's never happy.Everything sucks , it's too cold , there's dogs , we're going to get lost , the ground is slippery , climbing a mountain is hard and on and on.

I stand by it , Dorian is whiny. ;)

I mean he can't be perfect!

True enough :)

I mean I adore this character, but is there one location he's actually happy with? It's always "mud, mud, mud... desert, how lovely... a mountain?... etc." Bonus points: he manages to complain about the library as well. Though he arguably has much better libraries to compare it with.

Still, there's one thing we know he likes: Fereldan beer!

Oh man, I know!!! Both her and Cass and I am like...stop running like that...both of you are better than that!!!!

Haha, yes he is witty, but I totally know what you mean. I lived abroad for a while and have dealt with getting digs and bashed for being where I am from and it did suck. I got extra appreciation for Dorian since he reminded me so much of things I've said, especially after listening to a hatefest going on and listening to things that aren't true. It was so nice seeing him written so well in that sense (and just about every other sense even with his inability to just say 'syrupy' things to you)

I'm in the opposite situation, actually! I'm studying in my home country, but I see such a vocal minority full of ignorance that it makes me frustrated. I'm very proud of Britain, but I'm proud of the Britain that Stanley Baldwin lauded in his 1924 speech: the Britain that accepts individuals and despises uniformity, and would sneer at this brutish, prehistoric insularity that leads to the xenophobic fear of the "Schrodinger's immigrant" that simultaneously steals benefits and steals jobs.

In this, I share Dorian's views. I love my version of Tevinter, and that's why I'm so frustrated with it at the moment. I admire that BioWare included this kind of nuanced patriotism that isn't just the usual brand of MY COUNTRY IS PERFECT lunacy that's so often portrayed.

Oh yes, with UKIP and EDL (Guess where one of the places I lived was? Though you will be pleased to know I never had an issue with British people) and as someone from the states, trust me, I see a very similar vocal minority who says rather nasty things about immigrants (and other minorities) as well. It can be frustrating when people say 'love it or leave it' to any form of criticism, especially when you do care, which is why you are even bothering in the first place.

Dorian is a really good representation of someone who does love their country, but sees the problems there and wants to improve it, which is something you don't tend to see a lot of in media these days and it was something Bioware did well, especially since it would have been so easy to make him into a person who hated everything about Tevinter (especially since up until Dorian, there had not been a positive thing about the country as far as I could tell).

I actually think it has to do with what you say to him after the temple of Mythal, because I chose the "do what you have to do" option my first time around, assuming he would ask me to come with him. But on my second time romancing him, I chose the other option, the "I'll go with you" or whatever and he seemed more inclined to stay in the dialogue at the end, despite the fact that I talked to him at the party both times. It also may depend on whether you take him to the temple of Mythal or not, but from what I've seen in videos that does not appear to be the case.

Hmm, now I am sure it is a bug since I went with your second option (of saying I'll go with you and what about us) and he was talking about leaving after the the party the first time I spoke to him, but when I didn't he talked about staying. You know, I never considered the Temple of Mythal as the thing triggering the difference, but it could be, did you bring him with you the second time?

Sooo, someone pulled the character descriptions from in game  http://danaduchy.tum...-the-game-files

And this was Dorian's

Character descriptions from the game files:

  <CharacterName> Dorian Pavus
<CharacterDescription> Dorian is an aristocratic mage from the Tevinter Imperium— a foreign land where mages rule (even though everywhere else it’s the opposite, and mages are oppressed). Mages from his homeland are considered evil, and for good reason. They’re corrupt, and use forbidden arts as a matter of course. Dorian wants to change that. He’s an idealist, fighting to change his homeland even if he knows it might be hopeless. He’s intelligent, witty and talented— and also confident, to the point of being cocky.
<SpeechPattern> Dorian is very educated, coming from an aristocratic background. He should come across as intelligent, witty and sarcastic. He speaks quickly, a patter which could leave others in the dust, and he’s not about to wait for them to catch up. It’s important that he still come across as likeable— for all his witty banter, he is still a good person at heart.
<Appearance> Stylish, slicked-back black hair, piercings— Dorian is handsome and he knows it. He wears Tevinter mage robes of high quality, and is very fussy about his appearance.
  <CharacterArchetype> The Clever Rogue

I adore it all, but I have one question...piercings? Where? (I am hoping this is just one of those things that were supposed to be taken out and it isn't trying to imply something else)

He used to have a nose ring in one of the very old concept art.

It's a bit hard to see.

Thank god they change their mind about his looks. The concept with long hair is also awful, he looked like Captain Hook.

Ughhhh, Farage is such a joke! I read an article today of him saying that he wants to kick out all the Dirty Foreigners that don't speak English "properly", because apparently they have a bit of an accent and this makes them utterly incomprehensible. No word on whether or not he'd disbar people with heavy Scouse/Scottish/Welsh/Irish accents, though, but I presume they'd be allowed the privilege of diagnosing him.

And yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Dorian as a character anyway, but it's that kind of subtlety of portrayal that reminds me why I've stuck with BioWare for so long, and why I'll probably continue to stick with them for the foreseeable future (even if they do sometimes make narrative choices I disagree with). One of the few studios so far that persists in prioritising a good story.

I think they really stepped it up with nuanced characters in DAI, even compared to their already high standards. Great example with Dorian and his complex feelings for his home country.

hello I read a little about dorians and bull relationship and I was wondering what you guys here think about it.

Bull seams not  to respect dorian at all.

Oh goodness, this question. This question has caused lots of problems, but I will give you the brief answer, I have issues with it and don't support it and I know some of the other people here feel the same as I do. Other people, though, like the relationship and feel there is nothing wrong with it and can get very touchy about it. There was actually a thread about this problem a few days ago (got lock) but it states a lot of people's issues with it. I think it was called, "Iron Bull and Dorian, a Problem" At this point, for the sake of peace, I find leaving the topic alone is best

Agreed, I can't stand the man. Haha, man, I knew other :foreigners who I could understand better than some Glaswegians!

Absolutely, they write some incredible characters and even if they disappoint me with some game decisions, they have yet to disappoint me with their storytelling, well, except for the ending of ME3, but they fix that and gave us Citadel DLC so I have mostly forgiven them.

Dorian never told a soul about the punk rock phase he went through while at the Vyrantium Circle.

I'm kind of hoping that with all of the major changes made to Southern Thedas with Inquisition we'll get to visit Tevinter in the next game. Maybe something smaller in scope after all of the apocalyptic fate of the world stuff in Inquistion.

Oh, man, I never thought about it this way. Maybe because I never actually had the prerequisite party members for long enough to get some of this banter, and I'm still going through YouTube videos, but I thought it was kinda cute at first. Changed my mind now.

Oh damn, I got quoted in the Tumblr post. Thanks for pointing it out since I feel like they deserve a like from me. I have "adoribull" black listed on Tumblr, so that never showed up for me.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of the relationship, but I've already said my bit about it several times both here and in other threads and don't feel the need to go into it again.

I loved that blog post. It said how I felt better than I ever could.  What confuses me is why some people can't accept that not everyone likes the IB/Dorian relationship.  If Gaider says the relationship is left to interpretation based on the snippets we get then I don't see how one opinion is more valid than anyone else's. I do like that the questions were asked nicely which as the author states it's unusual for Tumblr. lol! But there just seems to be this desire to beat anyone who doesn't like IB/Dorian into submission. smh.

But yeah, it's a touchy subject. At this point I just consider it a nonentity. It'll never happen in any play through I have so what others do in their own is their business.

Yeah, I noticed that there is some disapproval out there if you don't accept that it happens behind the scenes, even if you don't get the banter. Oh well, it never happens in my games as well (and seriously, I adore that Tumblr post as well.)

I'd actually ship Dorian and Krem. He's got the same mercenary swagger that Bull does, but he's more down to earth (which is needed to help keep the boss in line).

Just an oberservation, but Dorian tends to be more passive in relationships (at first at least) which makes sense given his deep seated fear of rejection. The Inquisitor's reassurance that no, he isn't going anywhere helps quite a bit with Dorian's confidence.

Bull, if you romance him needs to be told that you're looking for something deeper or if you don't care for something. Dorian probably isn't going to say anything because he's afraid of the bottom falling out of the relationship; flawed as it is if he does bring up any concerns.

On Dorian's piercings: I have the Inquisition art book and it has several early conceptual designs for Dorian. He has several earrings in many of them along with other facial piercings, but my personal favorite is the one where he looks like a total rogue. (A bit 17th century pirate, but I'm smitten with his character any which way and I can kind of see why they decided against it. I'm more than pleased with the way he turned out even if I do mourn the discarding of this:
