Yeah, I find it hilarious that we're supposed to believe that Samson was a logical choice as the Mythal vessel for Cory.  I wanted to laugh in his face when he claimed that my mage wouldn't understand the knowledge but he would.

I swear Cory must have went off and smoked some crack after losing the mages.

"Well, my original plan literally blew up in my face. Then the Inquisition figured out every major detail of my plan thanks to time travel. And now a sizable portion of my army got wiped out by an avalanche. Screw it, we're using the "build Samson a fantasy Iron Man suit" idea, I honestly don't even care anymore."

While I haven't finished my templar play through yet, I have to say that from what I've seen in videos and such, the Calpernia thing with the binding circle and whatnot generally seems to make more sense in the overall plot than Samson's antics with magical lyrium armor.

I am sad that Calpernia didn't join the inquisition if you sided with the mages. I don't even see why Samson and Calpernia where not both part of the story no matter what choice you make, but if gives you reason to replay the game after the first play through.

While destroying Samson's armor with Dagna's rune is a fun scene, I go with Calpernia now because I can just skip the boss fight by doing her mission. Plus compared to the power cost and time sink of completing Samson's quest line, doing Champions of the Just is much easier.

Yeah it just seems like so much time and resources go into Samson and then we don't even find out why he's immune to red lyrium.

Instead we get "I dunno." *shrug* "Let Dagna research him and we'll give you a codex entry never."

I thought that it did not effect him because he was a seeker. If he was to be the vessel it wound make sense for him to go through the training because he would be useless if the red lyrium killed his body.

Can anyone tell me how to meet Dorian before 'events' at haven? I did the templar path then came back to finish the Hinterllands and I've heard that there's a way to meet him here. Is that true?

I thought he wasn't immune the red lyrium. When you bring him to "court" he says that Coriffyfish was delaying corruption for him specifically.

You'll meet him if you decide to check on Fiona at Redcliffe. You can then bail on the mages and do the templar mission. I'm pretty sure he's gone if you do their mission though and that it has to be before you start Champions.

Ah, ok. Too late then. I didn't check on them first because I didn't think it would feel right to leave if I did. Not checking, the inquisitor could think everything was fine there and go see if templars were running amok.

We had a discussion on this some pages back. What I finally settled on was that my PC sees the whole mess at Redcliffe and gets the info from Dorian, and then decides to go and get the templars to deal with this problem. Sadly, by the time I've gotten the templars the mages are gone. Oopsie...

Aside from the whole personal connection with Dorian re: Alexius, Felix, and time in the future, I'm actually liking the templar path more post-Redcliffe. I have yet to finish this game though.

This is exactly my reasoning. My guy knew he was walking into a trap and decided to get Templars for backup. I'm actually glad I picked the Templar path on my first go around. Experiencing Cole's intro mission made me end up liking Cole. Plus, Dorian showing up at Haven, tending to the dying Roderick, and getting upset that I didn't help him ( and me making it up to him by getting his amulet back )  were all great moments.

TV Tropes continues to puzzle me...anyone got any clarification on these?

1) Someone's put that Dorian's mum might be an alcoholic (or at least a heavy drinker). When does he talk about this? The only times she's come up for me are when he mentions that his parents despise each other, and at the ball he comments that she treats him like a five-year-old.

2) Seriously, that banter about Iron Bull having sex with Dorian on the war table...are we sure that plays for both the Inquisitor and Dorian? Or has someone confused the Inquisitor's RP English accent for Dorian's? Because that's one of the rare times that Bull makes an attempt to guard his partner's privacy, and the "if a fade rift opened up right now" and "we're both consenting adults" lines sound much more in line with the Inquisitor than Dorian.

Sorry to bother everyone, but I'm working on a little character analysis thingy, and I'd like to be accurate - I tend to miss things ("no, Dorian is not holding a glove under his chin, that's his boyfriend's magic hand").

1) He mentions her one more time, talking about her and boating, but only saying she would sit inside with a cool drink while the servants took him boating, but I definitely didn't get the sense she was an alcoholic from that, more that she didn't want to go boating.

2) I am almost 100% sure that is Inquisitor and Bull not Dorian and Bull.

TV tropes, while great, does get things wrong at times, it will probably be changed soon.

But then you're told that Samson is too valuable to let die and the option is to let Dagna study him to find out why he was immune. idk. The whole thing is wacky.

Edit: I just played that part. Samson does mention Cory was delaying it, but when you sentence him to Dagna it's for studying his resistance to red lyrium. Not immunity.

Dorian: Don't worry Felix, the Inquisition should arrive any time now.

Felix: You forgot to tell them how to contact you.

Dorian: Fasta vas, you're right.

Also, if the rebel mages wern't pleased with their alliance with Tevinter what (other than plot) was keeping us from just killing Alexius in the middle of the tavern? I borrowed the In Hushed Whispers scenario for my D&D game (my players aren't DA fans) and the party's rogue just stabbed the Alexius analogue in the back.

@Dr, lol!! I can actually see that as a real exchange between them.

I never understood why we couldn't just kill Alexius in the tavern. Why on earth do we have to negotiate with him? It's the same as honoring his presence on Fereldan soil.  He's obviously there for dubious means, he isn't welcomed, he chased out the arl who is in the middle of getting aid from the crown to storm Redcliffe. So why is the Quizzy sitting there talking to this dude about handing over the mages? Alexius should have been talking to my murder knife.

I'm not even sure it's legal , I mean I know pfff the law...but the guy is all about the Imperium laws about slavery and how they can end up citizen blablabla.

It's strange we can't remind him , slavery is forbidden in Ferelden.

I would assume it's because he's still a magister and Tevinter might get mad, because despite the fact that he's on foreign soil, the magisterium isn't full of the most honorable and reasonable of people and it could cause issues. Besides that, not being happy with their own poor decisions doesn't necessarily mean some of the rebel mages wouldn't have gotten involved. That's how I reasoned it, but I still think a magical dual with a magister in a tavern would have been awesome.

I was running around in Emprise du Lion today and I laughed really hard when Dorian piped up:

Spoiler

I find it so hard to not keep him in my party all the time. <3

I don't even try.  I know I'm probably missing some banter, but meh.  He's just too funny.

Lol...

I never do stuff like that in my games unless the incident calls for immediate action. To me nothing in that scene warranted killing Alexius right then and there.

ME2 gave me a strong feeling of tension between my male Shepard and Kaidan when they briefly met. I don't know if it was intentional, but it just felt to me more than two platonic friends divided by ideals and circumstance. There was static there, just something I can't really nail down. I romanced Tali, and she is awesome, but again it just didn't feel right or suit me well at all. Along came ME3 and finally Kaidan was accessable. I liked the explanation of "we worked together/I was too nervous/did you ever notice I never dated any women?" It felt organic enough that his batting for the other team did not bother me at all, and they finally hooked up. I really enjoyed his romance and I have no bloody idea why some people hate Kaidan so bad. I just don't get it. He was fine to me, sweet, and adorable.

And now my Shepard is that poor "in the closet" boy testing the waters to decide what he really liked. Alien mono-gendered feminine blue space babe? Nah. Alien cute and adorable and totally awesome "must be on my team at all times" quarian who is definitely female? Nope... still didn't feel right. Adorkable co-worker who hid his feelings for two games before finally admitting he totally had the hots for my boy? Bingo.

I got that same feeling from ME2.  I did play an Ashley romance the first time through, but then I did another playthrough where he kept Kaidan alive and didn't romance anyone.  When I learned ME3 would have Kaidan available for male PCs, I resurrected that game and played it through ME2.  I damn near squeed when Kaidan and MShep have their conversation about "Has what we wanted been here all along?" on the Citadel.

It probably helps quite a bit that he Dorian doesn't spend 80% of his screen time mourning some person you never met. It was hard to walk away feeling like you knew very much about Steve beyond the fact that his husband died because of that. Samantha was pretty well accepted and she was much more accessible.

But yeah, Dorian not only has a good reception but actually seems like he's going to walk away with fan favorite this time. That's pretty huge. And while Sera may not be universally popular, I've heard almost no homophobia from her critics.

I did like, however, that there was no "You were married to a MAN?" choice in the conversations with Steve.  It really ticked me off when Zevran flirted in DAO and there was an option to say "But you're a man!"  Bleah.

I mean, sure, I get it, not everyone would be OK with that, but meh.
