Here is a question I'm hoping some of you warrior players might answer. Did any of you choose the templar spec? If so, does Dorian have any reaction to that? Does that change at all if in a romance with him?

 

I have a male warrior romance Dorian but I typically choose the champion spec for other RP reasons so I don't have the opportunity to see this. I'd think Cole would react negatively, Dorian I'm not so sure. Being Tevinter he does not have a negative personal history, or any personal history, with templars; he only knows what they represent to the mages of southern Thedas.

 

If I were him, I don't think I would be entirely happy about my boyfriend becoming addicted to lyrium, but I highly doubt that would be referenced in a conversation. But I might be wrong! Hence the question.

there is more he basically jokingly says that back home that if you meet a templar you just think "oh who did I annoy now?" and then says southern templars are weird and if you are now a crazy religious fantatic

Reaver makes me feel a bit ehhh for RP reasons (especially since my warrior ended up with Mythal tattoos, and she represents protection, and love, apparently). Champion seems like it'd be the best fit for him overall. I'm trying to think of a reason he'd choose to be a Templar, as my background for him is he's had a mage lover before, and is very open-minded of magic and protective of mages. Templar seems like it'd go against that for him, as- currently- Southern Templars are more about punishing and killing mages than protecting them. Sure, it's what they claim, but in reality it doesn't play out that way.

Well, all things considering, our pcs will never be a real templars, assassins and so. They just picking the most useful abilities for them at the moment. And well since we're dealing with a bunch of crazy mages of all sorts in DAI, why not choose a templar speciality? The way I see it, it's just handy in combat. As a knight enchanter handy in combat for a mage, but it's not like we're suppose to serve the Divine or serve the Order afterwards, or something like that. Skills are just skills.

A reaver is also kind of iffy for a dalish considering that it's knowledge given by demons similar to blood magic for non-mages. I could see a dalish choosing templar simply for usefulness, especially if you side with the templars. Which I assume you probably didn't, but my dalish characters are usually a bit wary of human mages considering all their crazy religion and rebellion and such, so it may make sense for a non magical dalish to just want to have an insurance policy against them.

True, I feel the same about the Qunari's body. Which is odd because I think they had great bods in DA2. I've never cared for elven bodies in all three games. I preferred using a mod on Fenris's bod or at least cover it more with the jacket mod.

The elf female body doesn't bother me, but the male's look... kinda bad, imo. It's just far too gangly and scrawny to be wielding certain weapons.

ok heres how it makes sense for any one to become a templar in this game even if you arnt human or andrastian

 

the trainer specifically says he is only teaching you the combat side of things you dont get inducted into the order or taught any of the religious mumbo jumbo

 

you just get trained to use the anti magic/demon abilities/fighting style and in this game the main enemy is an ancient tevinter dark spawn magister with an army of mages and demons at his command aka enemies the templar's abilities are designed to fight

BTW, thank you, folks, for being the one place I can go to discuss the game and my Dorian love without running into rampant spoilers.  I gather there's something called the Well of Souls, and you have to choose someone to drink from it or not?  But nobody has spoiled it, and I'm grateful--I don't get to play as often as I'd like, and I'm only up to (in Big Story missions) the point where "What Pride Had Wrought" opens up, and I'm smelling the flowers and pursuing companion quests before I go into that one.

I suppose I can see why some people don't like the elf body shape, but it doesn't bother me. I like that their phenotype is so different from humans, rather than being short humans with pointy ears. I wouldn't mind the warrior having slightly more muscle, but it's not enough to distract me at all.

Have to agree there. Though shirtless elf in the romance scene is kind of cringe inducing to me. The male elf model without clothes looks less like he's just slenderly built and a bit more like he's got an eating disorder or something. I do love the balance they've found with the facial structure, though. So much better than the mostly questionable changes in DA2. I could moon over Fenris all day, but the noses on most elves were just so weird.

Last Resort of Good Men bug

 

So I came across this bug today. I spoke to Dorian, did the war table missions, and killed all three Venatori, got back to skyhold thinking I'm gonna get things started and bam, no Mother Giselle.  

 

I tried reloading, nothing, went back to a save just before talking to Dorian to see if I may have clicked something wrong, nope. Went to talk to Giselle, nope. lol!  Then I thought, what did I do differently in this playthrough that I've never done before. I got it.

 

I talked to Hawke at Skyhold before doing Dorian's war table and Venatori stuff. Actually, this was the very first time I've spoken to Hawke right when I first arrive at Skyhold. I usually save him for later when I've done Inner circle stuff and taken over a keep or something. I spoke to Hawke, got the cut scenes between Varric and Cass, Talked to Varric with more cut scenes et al. Perhaps it isn't talking to Hawke that does it, it could be any number of those cut scenes that come afterwards. idk

 

All I know is that I went back to an early save when I first reach skyhold (after talking to Blackwall on the battlements). I ignored Varric and went straight to talking to Dorian (had to recruit him because I picked the Templars) then to the wartable and did all three of Dorian's missions, then took him out and killed 2 of the Venatori in the Hinterlands, came back to skyhold, got cut scene about Felix (I don't think I got it at all before), and bam there is Mother Giselle waiting for me. lol!

 

I don't know if anyone pinpointed the issue yet or can confirm if talking to Hawke is the problem. I just wanted to share just in case anyone comes across the bug still.
