Spoiler
Inquisitor: (grumbling) "Don't worry Amatus, I filled my skins with water this time." Maker's breath, it's like dealing with a petulant child sometimes.
Sera: Oh he filled 'em with water alright, I just added some of that aquae whatever-it-is to it.
Inquisitor: You poured Aquae Lucidius into Dorian's water while we're in the middle of an enemy-infested desert?
Sera: It's good innit?
Dorian: (running around shouting) Worms! There are giant worms under the sand! We can ride them all the way to Val Royeux!

A Dune reference in a Dragon Age thread, about Dorian no less. This thread can't get any more awesome.

Him saying that Tevinter nobility is trying to produce a mage with a "perfect body, perfect mind, the perfect leader" just made me think of the concept of the Kwisatz Haderach.
On another note, Dorian reminds me a lot of Miranda Lawson. They're both were intended to be the "perfect" heirs for their parents but decided to choose their own path. Miranda wants to use her abilities to help humanity develop into a galactic power through Cerberus, Dorian wants to reform Tevinter from being a crumbling empire to something that can live up to its illustrious history. Both of them are very passionate about their goals, but have doubts that stem from their past.

They've both got the seemingly arrogant but actually seriously low self-esteem dichotomy going on too, although I think Miranda beats him out at it.

Both have serious issues with their fathers as well. Trying to figure out who has it worse... At least Dorian can reconcile with his.

Miranda has Julian Bashir's problem, she believes that being genetically engineered means that she can't take credit for her achievements. Dorian's a highly skilled mage and he knows it, but he had a deep seated fear of rejection from how he's been treated by his family and homeland.
Both of them have a sharp sense of humor, although Miranda seems to prefer Bond One-Liners.

“Glittering to gloss a hidden hurt. Unlearning not to hope for more. Stumbling steps where the wall used to be.”
I freaking love you Cole!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually wan't sure what that was about, but now that you mention it it makes sense and it also makes me incredibly happy. Cole is adorable
I have to say I'm not a big fan of the Miranda comparisons though. I know some people liked her for reasons I will never understand, and while she was more bearable by the end of the game and in 3, she consistently came off as a whiny self-depreciating brat fishing for compliments to me. I feel like Dorian is a much bigger character than her "I have daddy issues and low self-esteem." He doesn't complain about his problems constantly, act as arrogant or flaunt an air of superiority half as much as Miranda. He comes off as arrogant in some respects, but that's largely a part of his playful attitude and confident facade and it's clear there's more to him than that and that he's not actually as full of himself as he seems.

Is it bad that feel sad when Dorian says he likes the smell after a lightning strike? I have lost a lot of family members lightning. I even had one family member get hit by lightning twice.

Ok, I know at least one of these has been posted before (several hundred pages ago, mind you) but I don't think anyone on this thread could ever have a problem with "too much" Dorian fanart if such a thing is even possible.

I've had that feeling since Fenris's remarks that "Magisters came from wealthy families, bloodlines that had nurtured magical talent for countless generations." To hear Dorian further expand on that in this game really strengthens the comparison between the Tevinter Imperium and the Bene Gesserit in my mind. It's quite interesting.

What IS it that makes this guy soooo art worthy? Never really been one for checking out fan art unless it's already in the thread. But Dorian art is . . . is . . . almost impossible to resist. ![]()

Quick question! I've finally gotten far enough into my dude Inquisitor playthrough that this matters:
I read somewhere that if you do the Templar side that you have to at least go to Redcliffe and meet Dorian, or else you will be unable to initiate the romance. Can anyone tell me if this is true? It won't take anything to briefly go over there, if it is, but I would like to know for sure.
Thank you.

That's the first time I hear that. There are some bugs with his romance, but I don't think that doing the templars path has something to do with that. If anything, meeting him in there and going after the templars lately will get you a great deal of dissaproval thus it might be difficult to get his personal quest (which can be used to initiate a romance without that bug).

Nope. I sided with the templars in my play through that I'm romancing Dorian, and I never even went to Redcliffe before siding with them. Our romance is going just fine, thank you very much. ![]()

I did the same thing when I romanced him on the Templar path. No problems starting it. The only difference is you get additional disapproval from him when he officially joins.

I am trying to think of a tactful way to ask for details (like: where does your family live and/or what do they do that you have lost a lot of them to lightning? also how many are 'a lot?' i'm sorry i'm just really curious) but I can't think of one.
