I'd pick DHMG, Varric and either the Warden or IB.

I'm going...
Me (Male Human damage dealer mage)
Dorian (healing specced)
Varric (dual wielding daggers)
IB/GW/Cass (whichever I feel like using)

I'd think he'd get along with Solas more so than Vivienne, honestly. Vivienne is pro-circle and I don't think Dorian will be down with that at all. He's against the corruption in Tevinter, but I don't think that'll stop him from being very pro-mage freedom.
I got the impression while watching the trailer, that Solas and DHMG was having a staring contest. Didn't appear friendly, but might all be in my head. While Cass was having one with us.

I'll probably pick up healing on every mage if possible, depending on the cooldowns, seeing as there is no health regeneration.

Yeah, my own character is gonna have to pick up a healing spell or two, but hopefully I can spec a mage to be really good at it. I'd rather my other mage companions be more fluent in traps, buffing and healing, while rain down hell from above.

My first file is probably going to be:
My inquisitor (male elf knight enchanter)
DHMG (healer)
Solas (offensive)
Sera (dual blades because I'll need less people fighting rom a distance)
Might switch who's healing and who's throwing fireballs depending on what's decided for Solas and DHMG beforehand.
I really wanted to play as a dwarf first but my love for the mage class is even bigger than my love for the dwarf race. And that beautiful art of DHMG and a female elf made me like the idea of DHMG with an elf (male, though
).

^^ Ditto on the Knight Enchanter. That sounds like an awesome spec, and perhaps it might be closer to the battlemage spec in DAA, more up close and personal...
I wonder if the companions are getting their own specs again?

I have to say, just by the name of it, Necromancer sounds really cool too. XD I've no idea what a rift mage is supposed to do. Theories??
I remember a long time ago (on that pannel where they showed Cass and Grey Warden art and how armor changes) Bioware said they'd only let us choose one spec, but make it more special. I really hope they keep their word and there are really cool quests for each spec. I think that should compensate not being able to choose two specs.
I wonder if the companions are getting their own specs again?
I hope so. It was quite an interesting approach and made each companion more unique... One thing that was nice about the way specs were handled in DAO though, was how some companions actually taught you how to fight like them. Certainly better than magically learning it like in DA2 lol

Man, it's going to be hard to pick a team in DAI, especially with Varric around. I'm so used to having him with me everywhere I go in DA2, it will be difficult to not take him everywhere in Inquisition, especially since he seems to bring out the best in everyone.
But DHMG will probably get taken out a lot on the first playthrough, as will Cass and Varric. I'm planning on playing a DW rogue, so depending on how combat actually ends up being, I might have to sideline Varric for a second mage or warrior (Vivienne or Iron Bull). I agree that DHMG will probably have some...intense disagreements with Vivienne, but I think he and Iron Bull will be unlikely bros.

Of course, I curse plenty, when I end up making glass canon's of a few of my PC's (and the occasional companion), then get curbstomped by a bunch of adds.
So for DHMG, I will probably go for straight up damager. Solas will also probably be damager, but Viv I am hoping I can turn her into an off-tank (similar to how I ended up using Wynne and Merrill).

I wonder if knight enchanters can tank. I don't know about turning party members into knight enchanters. I can't imagine Vivienne in heavy armor and still keeping her style. Seems impractical.

To be honest I'm not impressed by any of the mage specs. Depends on what Rift Mage turns out to be. I might pass on all of them. ![]()

That's what Rock Armor's for, baby!
Merrill had the "Wrath of the Elvhen". I used that (fully upgraded) in combo with Rock Armor, and used Ensnare (also from her specific specialization tree), and directed her into the middle of the fight.

In DA2 , the first time I played I mostly took Fenris , Anders , and Varric in my party.
I don't think it was a good choice at all , looking back.
Fenris and Anders hated each others , so it wasn't fun.
I couldn't get Fenris to full friendship or rivalry because I helped mages but also helped elves and kill slavers.
Isabela ran away at the end of act 2.
9 party member is a lot , and I'm already puzzled how I am going to balance things.
I love Varric , but Sera seems really cool and Cole is interesting.(besides I'm not sure I want to leave that kid all alone all the time)
Solas knows a lot about the fade , Dorian will probably be helpful if we stumble upon Tevinter ruins , and Vivienne can handle annoying nobles.
Iron Bull is walking eye candy , Not too fond of Cass but she's a dragon hunter and Seeker (chantry knowledge) , GW dude has a beard made of awesome.
It's going to be hard to choose , but if some are too annoying and I don't get along with them well they 'll stay for the most part at base camp.
My awesome team for now could be Inquisitor (mage) Varric , Sera , Iron Bull...I could take DHMG instead of Sera from time to time.

Perhaps causes rift in the veil. Think about the da2 trailer where hawke summoned up those hands.
I like the idea of Rift mages opening portals, to shift through spaces and 'teleport', they could create vortexes and traps...though I'd love if the risk would be demons coming out of them.
I honestly don't know who I really want in my party now. I want them all. All would be good.

The party members might all have their own personal specialisations again.

I doubt I'm going to have a set party this time.
I almost never do. I always bring who best fits the situation.
That said, if I had to choose the three that would always be with me would probably be Cassandra, DHMG, and Sera.
