Alright... I know this will seem absurd, but I've been trying to figure out how Dorian's outfit works. I did the same thing with Fenris a few years ago [his is just a batman belt over a tunic, which is attached to gauntlets via buckles + skin-tight pants]. Dorian's is way more complicated and I have no idea how he gets dressed or undressed.

Although I don't know what they're attached to, his pants are pretty straight forward. On top of those are knee and shin guards attached to boots that are fastened with side buckles.

His entire upper body is a mystery. Image in spoiler tag below.

There are 4 main leather straps.

1 Green

2 Red

3 Purple

4 Blue

* Red and Green are attached to each other via the Yellow anchor.

* Purple is attached to the main leather of the armor and serves no function that I can see.

* Red doesn't seem to serve any function either.

* The straps and ties in Orange also seem to have no function.

* Blue is his main belt on the hips that goes on last, which you can see when he is wearing actual armor. On this belt are two books (b1 and b2) and what I think might be a flask**. Blue is attached to the Yellow anchor via a chain going from the book (b1) to the anchor in the Pink circle.

I had been thinking that the light-colored parts on the chest were a separate layer over a cloth tunic (with collar), but then they would have to be attached to the pants in some way. The more I look at it and imagine it with without the belts and straps, the more it looks as if this is just a single body suit.

** It's interesting to compare Dorian's mage armor to that of the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor has a book, but just one. The Inquisitor also has a vial, which I assumed to be lyrium; perhaps that is what is in Dorian's flask -- no, despite the previous conversations here, I doubt he actually has booze in it, he's not Oghren. The Inquisitor also has a knife, and Dorian does not.

Spoiler

Dorian's outfit is like the Fade, incomprehensible. Though it is interesting to see just how many of Dorian's belts are completely useless. It is like he put them on just to make the Inquisitor's life more difficult as he tries to take them off.

Lol... yeah but some of them are attached directly, so even if you unhooked them from the secondary attachment they would just hang there. And under those I have no idea how he can get into and out of the body suit. If they had only included some fasteners on the side or something that would make all of this moot.

I spent way too much time thinking about it obviously. But as fun as it is to look at, I do prefer that the armor makes a bit of sense.

[edit]

"You Tevinters and your damned belts."

You can have fun with these in your head though; pulling him out of danger by grabbing one of the belts. "At least these are good for something."

Dorian's gear is specifically designed to induce frustration and/or anger during the prelude of amorous activities so as to increase the passion of the eventual libidinous confluence.

It's science.

EDIT:

This thinking about libidinous confluence sparked a brain scene. it's almost totally tame. Still don't read it if you're under 16 or a nun or at work. Though really if you're in this thread and at work I'm questioning your priorities:

Two words explain the belts actually: Tevinter and fashion. No other explanation needed, but I suspect the green shoulder strap belt with the clip (yellow) is there to help support the weight of the things on the belt (anyone who's ever had a belt with lots of heavy pouches or used a utility belt can tell you just how heavy they can get.) It also appears that the orange and green are both attached to the white part which meets the red and it appears this is likely what holds his staff on his back (which being a game would be too complicated to add a sling or whatever, but this is likely where it would be attached.) The purple one may or may not be attached to that part as well, but it seems to serve no function. However, less practically, it is fun to head cannoning my Inquisitor somewhat frustratedly ordering him to remove them all.

Same here, though I see my Inquisitor trying really hard in the beginning while Dorian laughs at him.

I haven't read all the posts re Dorian and alcohol but from what I have read of his dialogue in this thread it sounds to me more like Dorian would be finicky and persnickety about the wines provided. I can just see him down in the cellar pronouncing everything as rubbish and complaining loudly and (perhaps publicly) to Josephine regarding their rubbishosity. As for the beer maybe he was just slumming. :D

I like Orion. I tend to prefer dark with dark and light with light. And despite my girls going for Cullen, I do like dark guys in general.

Although you could do some fun headcanon stuff with appearance. For example, Angelina Jolie is dark and Brad Pitt is light. But if you look at pics of Angelina as a kid she looks just like their daughters with the blonde hair, which she grew out of. So playing around with those ideas in terms of pairing and appearance can be entertaining.

[It's so awesome we finally get our dark guys for LIs in this game. Blondies are fun too, but moar options!]

Jackson

XD Eluvianus Rex asked me to attempt to create Colton Haynes in the CC and I got the bone structure down, but there was no hair style or color that was correct so I had to compromise. Then I had to name him after Jackson in Teen Wolf, which is who Colton Haynes portrays.

Yeah I enjoy mixing things up as well. For example when I romanced Solas I had my elf, Halinia be more tanned and darker than he was...since I headcanoned that she was a pretty cold and detached person at the beginning. I knew that either Orion was going to get with Cass or Dorian, but when I posted him in the Cullen thread and the IQ creation thread...he gained a little too many fans, lol.

Mm thank you for the advice!

Orion is a S&S warrior who will probably become a Templar. Jackson is an archer and he will go into the Tempest spec, and Faerelin is a DD rouge who will become an assassin.

See now it's even more Orion because that would complicate the dynamic (in a largely headcanon way though probably) in a way that pleases me.

Is it just me or does this vallaslin look more fine and delicate on a female elf? Maybe it's just her bone structure or the bangs? Hm. The lines just seem finer and more delicate than on my male elf.
