Just bumping this up in case anyone missed my request for help earlier regarding Cole's banter with Dorian in which he talks about Dorian now being happier - I'd let it go if I wasn't so completionist and OCD, but I've gotten all of Dorian's banters with all the companions save for this one with Cole and it's driving me nuts that I just can't get it no matter what I do! As soon as I acquire it, I can then maybe move on to creating another toon...but until then, I just can't.
Does anyone have any idea how to get that particular banter to trigger and/or exactly what the circumstances must be in order for that banter to fire?

Banter has been random up to this point, so I don't think there is anything you can really do to ensure you hear a specific line. That being said, it seems that the latest patch will cause banter to be less random, whatever that means, so who knows.

I'm so happy the Dorian bugs and banter bugs(or randomness) are getting fixed!

If you can, just keep Dorian and Cole in your party and run around in the Hissing Waste, that will be your best chance at getting it, but as Sandal said, banter is random, it may take a while to trigger, especially if you haven't used Dorian or Cole all that much

As noted above the banter bugs are getting patched, but I found that if you don't change out the third member of your party once in a while they seem to actually banter less. Not sure what that's about, maybe it's just me, but you may just have to wait it out if they banter with party member 3 before getting back to bantering with each other.

Hey everyone, is there any good fanfiction around with Dorian and the IQ? Like an actual story rather than simple sex...I don't care if it is smut-based but I would prefer to read a story that has some plot.

Long or short? And does the Inquisitor matter (dwarf, elf, human, qunari)?

I'm sorry for taking so long to respond! My notification system seemed to bug on me.
Eh I prefer long stories, but I'm not going to hate on a great small story. The IQ doesn't really matter all that much, I just need some inspiration from a romantic story about them.

Haha, no problem! Here are a few popular stories, not all of them are complete though (the issue with it still being a relatively new pairing) and with only a little shameless self promotion, I promise.

That should do it for now. I have to admit, I lean towards Trevelyan Inquisitor, but I am sure there are people here who know good fics of the other Inquisitors as well.

Oh, I have Dorian and Cole in my party all the time in various permutations (sometimes just the both of them, sometimes with a different 3rd companion that I'm always swapping out) and they've exhausted all the things they have to say to one another (I've cross-referenced with DanaDuchy's Party Banter video on YT) save for those few lines I'm looking for. Based on the actual lines, obviously certain conditions have to be met before you'll get the banter - you have to be in a romance with Dorian, for starters. And I am - I've tried getting it when I've completed his romance arc, before I've completed it, after finishing the main storyline, before finishing the main storyline, and all to no avail.
For anyone who actually has gotten that banter, do you remember how your game state was like when you got it? Is it the last thing Cole says to Dorian once they've exhausted all their other banters? Was it after the bedroom scene with Dorian and after the completion of the main storyline?

Tonight's trip into the Hissing Wastes resulted in Sera bantering with Cole for ten minutes straight, no clue how it happened.

Thank you! I just wrote a really angsty scene and I need a little inspiration as to where to go next.
I personally like Trevelyen IQ as well, but I also enjoy Lavellan IQ. If it's a good story I don't care though.

The Hissing Wastes is amazing for banter and I figure it is because it is so friggen empty that there is nothing to stop the banter.

Sweet! Well when you finish your work, let us know, I'd love to read more Inquisitor and Dorian (particularly Trevelyan/Dorian)

I've gotten it and from what I remember, I was in Exalted Plains and I was mostly done, but I have to tell you, I don't think banter trigger is that sensitive. I know with Blackwall banter, I got that in Crestwood immediately after starting the relationship and for Cassandra I got that in the Hissing Wastes going to fight the dragon there (basically at the end of the main campaign for me). I really do think it is random.

Yeah, the Hissing Wastes always fire banter for me.
Actually that angsty scene was for my Cullen fanfic. Although, I am currently tossing around ideas for a Dorian one; plus I am also already writing a story for Solavellan which is being read by my beta. So I'm pretty busy, lol.

Honestly, I feel like some companions are more likely to talk to each other than others. I was running around with Dorian, Blackwall, and Cole for several hours at one point and Blackwall would not shut up with the other two, but Dorian and Cole refused to say much of anything to each others.

See, that is funny, I had it almost the opposite, Dorian kept chatting with Cole and Blackwall, but Blackwall and Cole wouldn't say anything to each other.

Guess I've gotta hope that randomness will eventually work for me; that, or the new patch will work a miracle although I'm not holding out much hope for that one. If anyone has any further tips to share, it'd be much appreciated.

I do admit that romancing a male as a female does leave a bigger impact, as I am a straight woman, but it doesn't mean I couldn't find other romances enjoyable. Actually, I'd go as far as saying that I prefer gay romance options because I get to make a swoonworthy dude whom I can stare at through the whole game AND I can romance a male. It's a win-win situation really.
I enjoy romancing a female as a male, but it's less immersive to me than romancing a male as a female. I've never really been a huge fan of pursuing gay relationships in games (I didn't really care for my DA2 male going for Anders), but Dorian was the exception. I was extremely attached to him, maybe the most attached to him. It was different, but a good different. I think that I just enjoy his character so much! ![]()
btw... is it *normal* to play the game 8 times around here, or am I completely barking mad?

Pardon me for butting in, but I noticed something similar for party banter. That is, during some playthroughs or visits to certain areas, two companion will constantly talk to each other and leave out the third one, or companion 1 and 2 will talk, and 2 and 3 will talk, but companion 1 and 3 won't say a word to each other (though not those specific numbers every time). For me, sometimes it changes when I leave one area and go to a new one (for example, in the Hinterlands Varric and Cassandra chat it up every two steps while Solas occasionally gets a word in, but when I go to the Sword Coast Solas and Cassandra chat it up much more frequently.)
Must be one of those things.

Multiple plays are common for us on the BSN, but not at all common for the player base at large. In fact, a good chunk of players never even finish a game once.

I know I keep coming up with lame questions, but talking about Dorian is so fun.
I also partly asked this question in the Tevinter Imperium support thread, but I'll just stick with the Dorian-centric part here. Up until this point I've only thrown Alexius in prison, primarily out of pity, and also out of frustration that I can't ask Dorian's opinion on what should be done. I've just recently watched all of the Alexius judgement options on YouTube and Dorian has no approval changes for any of the given options, including tranquility, which I found most surprising. Alexius's reaction to execution was interesting.
Anyone have any opinions on why this might be? And does Dorian have another Alexius related dialog regarding his judgement if you leave that investigate for afterward?

Dorian had an increase when I made Alexius work for the Inquisition, but only after I went up and spoke to him about it. He didn't get it right after the judgement like they usually do.

Dorian's approval change doesn't happen until you go speak to him personally after judging Alexius.

Yeah, Dorian does actually have opinions, but you must talk to him. If you make him Tranquil, he disapproves, but if you make him an agent he approves. His dialogue changes depending on what you do to Alexius.
