Have we talked about our opinions on Dorian's age? I don't remember. Anyway, it's not been word-of-God'd so it's open to interpretation, but it seems like every time I see a generic age question about DAI, people always put him as 35+, some even as high as 40. Honestly, if he's intended to be over 28 or so, I'd eat my hat.

Hallo Dorian Thread! I have a question I was hoping some of you might be able to help me figure out. In my current PT I am doing the Templar path (because I prefer that storyline) so I don't get Dorian until Skyhold. My first PT I also did the Templar path and I could have sworn I got the quest from Giselle to go see his father pretty much right after the first conversation I had with him in Skyhold, and the conversation about Felix's fate happened much later. However, I have also heard the conversation about Felix has to happen first to get the other quest, so I am questioning my memory here.
In my current game I have done the war table mission to open his kill the venitori, killed one group of them, and done the friend in Quinaris (or however it's spelled ><). I have exhausted his dialogue and haven't gotten the prompt to ask about Alexisis. Storywise, I met the Warden in Crestwood and drained the lake and closed the rift there. I was going to head out to the Western Approach to start doing things there, but I am worried I might have the bug which will prevent me from getting the quest to go talk to his father and also will prevent me from doing his romance.
Most of the people in the thread about the bug seem to have gone the mage route so I figured some of you guys might have experience with this and would be able to tell me if I am still ok or if I am likely bugged. Anywho, any advice would be appreciated ![]()

I can't believe people would put him that old, I always figure he was somewhere between 26-29. I guess part of the issue is the fact his voice, though brilliant, does make him sound a bit older, especially with his glorious mustache.
Spoiler
I haven't taken the templar route yet, so I can't help you there, but you probably need more approval. Also, did you actually go see him Redcliffe (I am not sure why you would be able to ask about Alexius on the templar route unless you met him)? Try killing another Venatori group. Also, the patch is coming soon so if you are still having issues, you may wish to wait a bit for it (and it will be fixing Dorian's bugs).

I forgot to say that but yes I did go do the stuff in Redcliff before doing the Templar stuff. And cool, I'll give killing another group a try
If it doesn't work then I hope the patch is super soon, I've really been looking forward to doing his romance. Thanks!

I'd put him around 25-29. He was recently Alexius' magic grad student, and the Venatori only came into being recently.

Hah, where the hell would someone get 40?? I'm 34, there is NO WAY Dorian is 40.
Like someone said remove the mustache and he looks very young to me. Mid 20s, late 20s at absolute oldest. He's still young enough that his marriage/non-marriage is an issue with his father, and he was very good friends with Felix, who himself looked barely in his 20s to me. I took them to be close in age, from when Dorian talked about Felix saying he'd get him treats or things from the kitchens and him not wanting Felix to get in trouble. I think Felix might have been slightly younger- don't know why, just a feeling- but otherwise close enough.
Halward doesn't even look that old either. He could have simply aged well, but he's certainly not elderly enough for Dorian to be 40.
edit: well, my sister was born when my mother was 15, and she's going to be 41 this year, but my mom definitely looks her age- she looks older than Halward appears. Even still, I'd be shocked if Dorian was older than 30, and probably just choose not to believe it even if the writer's say he is XD

I laughed at this so hard. They must have thought Blackwall is ancient then.
Late 20's is my best bet, I doubt he'd be much over 30. He seems like he's seen the world a bit and there's an air of wisdom about him, yet sometimes he acts like a spoiled child and he's surprisingly playful. So yeah, wouldn't say he's too old but not terribly young either.

Yeeeaaah there's no way Dorian is in his 30s to 40s, I reject this out of hand. Wisdom and experience aren't the sole province of older folk either. Mid to late twenties would be my guess.

I think he's in his 20s, but that is all the estimate I'm willing to make.
After Wicked Eyes/Hearts, if you dance and comment about it at Skyhold Dorian will say something about wanting more corpses or something Dorian-ish like that. Your Inquisitor calls him a "morbid young man."
... and he was very good friends with Felix, who himself looked barely in his 20s to me. I took them to be close in age, from when Dorian talked about Felix saying he'd get him treats or things from the kitchens and him not wanting Felix to get in trouble.
Slight digression here, but this scene kills me every time. Dorian relating it in the tone that he does makes me smile, but then it's so sad since Felix is dead... ![]()

I did a templar play and it worked out just fine.
However, I'm starting to be convinced that one of the main problems is in talking to Varric (to meet Hawke) at Skyhold before getting the Felix dialog to trigger. So if you did that might be your problem. You can either wait for the patch -- although there is no guarantee that it will be fixed retroactively if the bug has already happened -- or go back several hours of play.
I know it sucks, but I've been there, so I feel ya. I always recommend doing a hard save (Menu > Save) before and after any major events because of problems like this.

Haha, good summary on his personality.
I just though recently why I like him more than other characters and LIs despite the fact that they're all awesome in their own way. But still no other romance feels quite right.

I had a very happy experience last night - my femquizzy came back from the ball, and Dorian was griping about the library and she got to flirt with him!!! I love that playful flirting & banter is part of my friendship with Dorian - we've done Last Resort, so she knows about his orientation - plus, her heart belongs to Cullen - so it's all in fun, which is our Dorian in a nutshell. Thank you, BioWare! (Of course now, I just want to role another mquizzy and romance the bejeezus out of that man, but alas, that is for another day.) ![]()

Yea, I think that might be my next try if killing another Venatori group doesn't work. I luckily have a save right after arriving at Skyhold before I talk to anyone. Just sort of frustrating because I'm not sure if it's fine and I am stressing over nothing, or if it's actually bugged ><

Actually, I have to say I feel the same. I liked Cullen a lot but it doesn't feel the same since he's not a party member, and Solas was very interesting and different, yet his romance felt a bit lacking in the, well, romance department. I mean, there wasn't much 'aww' factor nor a proper culmination scene. If you know what I mean. Wink wonk and so on.
The "you're a morbid young man, Dorian" line makes me wonder... could the Inquisitor be older than Dorian? I mean, sure, the player can make a complete grandpa if they wish to, but I wonder if there's like a "canon" age for the Inquisitor. I don't know. Wondering about things.

They said the canon age is between 20 and 40, although I think 40 is stretching it especially for some class/race choices. Like a non-mage Trevelyan was given to the Chantry, yet they're still not initiated into the Templars or the Chantry hierarchy, so it really wouldn't make sense for them to be much older than 25 at most.
Anyway, I don't think calling someone a "young man" necessarily means you have to be older than, especially since it's done in a teasing manner to begin with.

I think it's pretty safe headcanon the Inq being around 30-35 for the most races. I somehow can only picture the elves being younger, and only in the case if they're a mage. I dunno why, lol.
Just a feeling.
I always get that feeling playing a human mage after I spoke with that girl (don't remember her name, something starts with L I think) at the Redcliff tavern. I just though, Trevelyan passed the harrowing + some time after that + 2-3 years of rebellion. It would make him something like 18-20 + (2?) + 3, 23-25 but surely with what the girl said the mages send him to stop people at the Conclave, so I dunno. I find it hard to believe they would send such a young person, even if he's a bright student.

Yeah, that. Cass, Cullen and Solas are great but they feel... heavy. It reminds me of Fenris' romance, which I never ever finished.
Also, they're all like "ygh, I need to worry about my work, ugh it's impossible and we have more important things to do" and in the real life I would pretty much have said "... ok then". It still feels wrong being so clingy trying to get their attention. Why they must be so difficult, jeez.

Lol, I would love to have an opportunity to call him a baby magister personally. It's quite sad we can't tease him back in the most scenes actually.

Probably somewhere in his 30s or very early 40s. I always figured the Inquisitor was a bit older than the Warden, at least if you compare human mage Inquisitor with human mage Warden, just because the Warden just goes through their harrowing when you start playing, but it can be assumed that the Inquisitor had done it at least a year before the start of Inquisition (they never really explain the age range when the apprenticeship ends and when mages go through their harrowing, probably to give players room to play with the ages, but I figure that apprentices tend to be younger and most harrowings would be done in the late teens and early to mid twenties)

Yeah, I can't really say why but I always get the feeling the Inquisitor would be 30 and up. That's how I at least see my characters. Pfft, about the teasing Dorian thing, I kind of like to roleplay that the Inquisitor loves watching how Dorian just goes on and on about something, being the pompous sass master he is, and he doesn't even try countering his "jabs" because he might burst out laughing at any moment.
Dorian: ...and their boots. We could send our soldiers off to Halamshiral and threaten to leave them there until Celene and Gaspard made a truce, and succeed. That's how terrible their uniforms are.
Inquisitor: *snorts*
Dorian: Wh- *appalled* Are you even listening to me?!

Thank you! I just wrote a really angsty scene and I need a little inspiration as to where to go next.
I personally like Trevelyen IQ as well, but I also enjoy Lavellan IQ. If it's a good story I don't care though.
I'm working on a longer one with a Lavellan, but in light of my historical issues with finishing things, I'm not going to post it until/unless I finish it.
Whoever guessed 40 is clearly beyond terrible at guessing ages. I would say Dorian is no younger than probably 26, but no older than maybe 32.

I do that almost everywhere, but my Inquisitor tries to act less "elfy" inside the castle. Silly humans probably wouldn't appreciate it what with and their roundabout methods of getting around and whatnot.

Pff, it was so natural while I played the elf that I didn't even guestion it. xD "Jump off the wall? No big deal, it's an elf thing." Reminds me of the Geek Remix video with Lavellan and Cullen.

I went into DA:I blind. Thus I only knew four things going in:
1) COMBAT IS GOOD YAY!
2) The name 'Iron Bull' (I thought he was just a big guy encased in armor with bull horns on his helmet)
3) I reminded someone of 'Warden Blackwall'
4) That there was this shifty looking guy with some admittedly nice facial hair. I do not trust shifty people with nice facial hair, it's the law.
...This song perfectly describes my newfound friendship with (John) Dorian.
Dorian is best bro. Eat your heart out Varric.
