And I just finished this pt and I have quick question about the end. In my two other PTs (where I didn't romance him) he said at the end he was going to stay because this was where his best and only friend is. On this PT at the end he said he's decided to go back to Tevintor... which surprised me and made me sad. Is that something he always says when romanced or is that because I told him I would understand if he did go back after the Temple of Mythal? Like I get him feeling he needs to go back dude ><

Ah yeah, I feel for ya with the "I understand" line. To answer your question: he CAN stay, but it depends on the dialog options you choose. The post-Mythal conversation is the primary influence. I'm not sure if the "About the future" dialog also has an influence or not. Fortunately for me, I had already read in this thread that it could happen, so I purposely picked the "I need you with me" option for my first Dorian romance pt.

I find this option frustrating because of it's lack of expression. I want to be able to tell him that I understand why he wants to go back even if it's not something I want for myself, and also reassure him that I will wait. I'm planning on picking this option in my next Dorian romance pt, but I'll have to do some serious headcanon for the conversation. >.<

Ah ok, hmmm I might go back and change it then... But yea I expected the conversation to go I say I understand if he feels he needs to go, he says the line about breaking his heart, I say it's not because I want to go but I understand about needing to help his homeland -_- That exchange is just so underwhelming which is sad because pretty much everything else was really well done.

It also didn't help because of him saying he was going to leave and how that stung, it made the final scene not feel how it should have. Like it was obvious he didn't mean what he was saying, but at the same time it still had a bit of a twinge to it.

I just replayed the Ponchard scene. Human Mage. He told me he didn't even have it on him. Is this only for those who can't intimidate him?

I thought that's what he said if you asked what was to stop you from taking it now instead of the intimidation option.

OH I forgot about the option of offering to go along. If you pick this first and then "I understand" he might still stay at the end. Or did you do that the first time around and he still left?

I've been thinking about it, and I think it is logical that a mage can't use the noble "do you know who I am?" line. A mage has been in the Circle for, at the very least, 10 years. They have no influence or power as a noble. As of that moment (when the quest takes place), mages can't hold titles either, so a mage Trevelyan has nothing to intimidate Ponchard with.

Yea, I did the whole "I could go with you" option first, and it apparently didn't matter :(

ugh, i haven't posted on the bw forum in forever, as in, not since the olden days... but i'm really feeling the need to share my inquisition experiences with people, especially since i got my ps4 and can actually take screenshots rather than blurry pics of my tv with a phone cam

anyways, i made this trevelyan that in retrospect i think is a bit too pretty.. he just has to romance dorian, since everyone else would just run into the dreaded 'my boyfriend is prettier than me' issue

tumblr_nisu0gFXbo1u939ubo1_1280.jpg

but, since i sided with the mages on my previous femquisitor, i went with the templars this time.. and it seems dorian kinda hates me. i recruited him, but didn't flirt, since it seemed inappropriate at the time, and the next conversation he was all 'you stumble like a caged dragon D:<' and i could sack him, which, of course, i didn't.

still, i hope that's not it yet, right? his venatori mission was available at the war table, though i didn't have any free advisors to do it yet? but i'm ok, yes?

pls tell me i'm ok? ;_;

@Theratpack, You're fine. Just do his war table missions, Kill venatori with him, and keep being nice or clever with him and he'll be yours in no time. ;)

You can still romance him if you go with the Templars. I've done that before. I didn't get a crisis scene from him, but I also flirted with him at every opportunity. I'm pretty sure it's just that flirting is really the only way to boost his approval initially and you do get disapproval from him if you go with the Templars. It's not an insurmountable amount though. Just do all his war table missions and take him with you to kill Venatori and you should be fine.

So glad to hear it is possible to persuade Dorian to stay with you.   I did my first run with a female elf and romanced Solas so that ended badly but she did at least have the consolation that her gay best friend had declared his utter loyalty to her, so I decided he would act as her emotional prop while she was getting over Solas.

Now I'm working my way through with my male Lavellan so I can romance Dorian, thinking it wouldn't end in tears but then got cold feet and took a peek on the Wiki and started wondering if I was ever going to catch a break with romance.   I appreciate the tips about which dialogue to choose because I really want a happy ever after for these two and if I have to metagame to get it, so be it.

^ Hah I have one of those screenshots too. That is the most swoon-worthy look E V E R. I mean, the kiss is hot and everything, but that look...

I love that kiss scene, so cute with Dorian's loving face. I don't know why i never get tired of watching it. With Cullen i asked him for a kiss a few times and that was it (cute but i felt it lacked something), but with Dorian i ask him for a kiss every time i go skyhold and before leaving skyhold, so minimum 2 kisses each time, sometimes more lol. I just can't resist, it must be his spell.  I wish we could also kiss while exploring outside Skyhold like in Origins, it could have some interesting banters with companions  ^_^

The bolded line makes me uncomfortable. I'm not very fond of the "gay best friend" stereotype because I find it very limiting and demeaning (as satirized in the first two minutes of this video). Dorian is not a living prop who exists to hold a straight girl up when she's going through relationship troubles. He's a person with his own problems, heartbreaks, relationships (filial, platonic and romantic), hopes, dreams, ambitions, and so on.

Don't get me wrong, my female Lavellan was also touched by his loyalty, also grew to think of him as one of her closest friends, and I imagine also appreciated his emotional support after Solas left since Dorian's one of the few people in Thedas who... you know, doesn't prop you up as a living idol to validate his faith or hold you at arm's length as "the boss." But friendship works both ways, and I like to think my Lavellan shared in his interests and joys, and helped him with his struggles and ambitions too.

I'm not sure since I haven't played to the end, honestly. However, if you've played before, then you probably know Dorian toys with the idea of returning home to Tevinter when this is over. I've also heard that he's a bit insecure as a love interest, and keeps trying to give a male romanced Inquisitor an "out." I imagine if he pitches the idea of going home, be careful what you say if you don't want him to start making plans to leave.

So, I don't know if anyone else has romance Dorian with Cadash, but... wow. I knew going into it that the dwarf and qunari animations can be dodgy, but I was not prepared for this. They don't even animate it. They just crash zoom in so close you can't even tell what you're looking at anymore, like those pictures of butt cracks that are actually someone's elbow. Like, look at this from the "how bad does the Inquisitor want to be" moment.

Cadash: You could just pick me up.

Dorian: The last time we tried that I dropped you square on Solas' desk.

Cadash: It's a shame that strapping physique is just for show.

Dorian: (laughs) Oh Amatus, you wound me so.

Mmmm... I thought Dorian would always leave for Tevinter. Fibble. I wanted to pick the 'I want you to staaaaaaaaaaay' option this playthrough but I can't if his leaving is dependent on that response cuz I really think it'd be better for him to leave. In a personal growth kind of way. His love of country and his desire to change it for the better seems like such an integral part of who it is I don't want to take that away. He needs to know that they can be apart and he can be his own person and do his own thang and the Inquisitor won't just vanish dreamlike if he turns his back.

Yeah Ratpack I kind of hate you right now. I've tried to make a human male Inquisitor whose appearance I'm happy with and have yet to succeed but that boy is pretty unf worthy.

I agree, I do enjoy picking the emotional blackmail response though. My IQ is just worried about him more than anything.   However, if bestowed with PC plot armor. I picture Dorian going to Tevinter and changing it while my IQ works on changing things in Southern Thedas.

tbh, I used to be sort of jealous that Dorian would just outright choose to stay for others but not the romanced IQ. Then it dawned on me.

This pretty much sums up that entire scene between Dorian and the IQ.

1:20

The IQ inspires him like no other. It's the ultimate compliment to the IQ and the relationship.  When I think of it that way, I can't possibly hold him back by keeping him in the South, not in the long run anyway.  I do headcanon my IQ having a spy network in Tevinter though. What Dorian doesn't know won't hurt him. ;)

Besides, It also sort of fits with the theme of my Trevelyan x Dorian relationship.

Dorian: "I want to do this myself!"

IQ: "You've got no plan have you?"

Dorian: "So?" <_<

*IQ does it anyway*

Dorian: "You ass." -_-

IQ: "Looooove Yooooou." :kissing:

I would like something akin to the concept art, which is more Tevintery, and similar to what Alexius was wearing.

[Pointy hat version, below]

Spoiler

Yes, this is the reason I am unsatisfied with the Inquisitor's limited response.

I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not. Text and all that. But just in case... he doesn't actually know time magic. When he worked on it with Alexius it was all theory, they could never get it to work. Also, the breach is the only thing that made its use possible, so the time travel can only occur within the time frame of the breach's existence. Besides, if you have Alexius research magic, Dorian specifically suggests that you be wary of using anything that Alexius discovers. Also, Dorian is generally not a fan of careless use of magic.
