Oh, yeah, I saw that when I was skimming his Tumblr tag earlier.

 

I'm not that worked up over it because he or she does have half a point. I'm seen a few Tumblr posts (unknowingly?) perpetuating the lecherous, predatory gay stereotype (I remember one of Dorian and Sera doing a high five before walking into gender exclusive saunas), but as usual with Tumblr "activists" they took a bit of wisdom and exaggerated it to hyperbole. There's absolutely nothing wrong with fan art and the like showing Dorian embracing his sexuality with consenting partners. Neutering gay people is just as reductive as portraying them as sex obsessed.

I don't see the problem with Dorian being hypersexualized. Dorian is a natural flirt no matter what gender you role play. Sex is just a large part of his whether you or Iron Bull romance him. Yes, outside of the innuendos (oh how I love when he leans on the guard rail) he has a strong emotional compelling story. But, Dorian is a giant flirt. If he was straight this would be the first thing he would tell your female Inquisitor...

when that intent is to censor artistic expression because it is personally distasteful to you, you get on thinner ice :/

They've got no power to censor anyone though. People throw that word around a lot, but someone expressing an opinion on your work, even if that opinion is that you shouldn't be producing it, is not an act of censorship.

I sexualize Dorian all the time. He's a sexy flirt. lol! But seriously, Drawing pics, writing fics, etc involving Dorian and sex doesn't mean that is all there is to his character.  And I have seen plenty of pics of Dorian in a non sexual way. Actually more than I have of him being naked, unless it's pics of his ass from the love scene, which I have seen plenty of .

 

 I do understand the concerns of hypersexualizing a character who is considered an "other"(meaning nonwhite, gay, et al).  I mean the same thing is done to black female characters in media to the point where there is even a term for it (Jezebel).  But I don't see the same thing being done to Dorian, or at least I don't spend enough time in places where they are so I wouldn't know. No one wants a character that represents them to end up as a one note stereotype, that does suck. But I'm not seeing it with Dorian. I think that guy just needs to stop focusing on the uncreative types who lack imagination.  And yeah if a person only sees Dorian as the gay bff with sage relationship advice or the pervy shower lurker then they do lack imagination.

 

If anything it's just another reason why no sane person should spend a lot of time on tumblr. lol!!

I'm not saying it's a good thing or appropriate, I'm just saying it's not censorship since they have no power to keep people from producing things or keeping other people from consuming them.

lol!! Yeah. Dorian, a man who has never been in a relationship, giving sage relationship advice to FQuizzy to hook her up with Cullen/Blackwall/Bull/Sera is face palm worthy. But I've only heard of fics like that being written.  I'm not, however, opposed to Dorian/FQuizzy bestie fics.  I hear Dorian is an awesome friend to FQuizzys.

Every other picture that comes across my dash is a companion (or actor, or character) shown in some state of disrobe, either giving come hither looks or being ooogled at, and basically all with tags of "this should be illegal" or "unnffff" and "*dies*".

The only  gay character in gaming history? That's... quite the statement. And s/he may have had a point if Dorian was being sexualixed more than all the other companions but he's not. They're all being sexualixed to high ****. It seems to be a thing with fanart. So asking that that stop just for Dorian isn't equality, it's preferential treatment. Well maybe not preferential because that implies sexualizing is bad and it isn't but special treatment anyway.

LOL!! All a person has to do is check out the Cullen thread. It's about 90% sexualized fanart in there.

I just don't even get the argument about tops and bottoms (and don't care for the labels anyway). Nearly every one of my male characters that's into men is a switch. If I have one with a preference, I try to have him go against type (so an elf that prefers to top, or something like that) because I find it silly to shoehorn people or characters into a single sexual trait. My elf rogue is a switch, my elf mage doesn't mind being the bottom, and my elf warrior prefers being top, but none of them would ever refuse changing it up.

 

It's less tedious to just ignore people that get hung up on that kind of thing.

He's a wonderful friend.

 

Him calling my F!Inquisitor, "His best and only friend" at the end of the game was one of my favorite moments of dialogue, and the other favorite moment was also a Dorian scene.  That friendship was one of the most important parts of my default Inquisitor's story arc.

 

 

BTW, I've been playing through as my first M!Inquisitor, and I just recruited Dorian. So excited to start flirting.

i have a question - what happens if you choose the 'let's keep this fun' option (or sth similar, don't quote me) during dorian's sex scene talk? it's not a breakup option but it's not the serious relationship dorian wants either, so how does that affect the romance?

 

i dared not take it for fear of seeing dorian's dissappointment or the like, and i can't find any vids that show it...

Yea I watched both the other options on youtube and it made me super awful. Possibly even worse than watching the break-up scenes with Cullen >< I couldn't bring myself to ever pick those options not even to see what happens.

I love how Dorian says to my FQuizzy, "I do enjoy watching you walk away" just as he did to my MQuizzy.  Love my sassy-pants Dorian, BF and BFF...he's just the best!!!  Honestly, if Dorian didn't flirt with me as a female, I may have abandoned this playthrough...I plan on romancing all the LIs, but Dorian will be my canon LI. 

 

As for folks commenting on art objectifying Dorian - two comments: 1) My favorite Dorian artwork involved Daisy the Dragon, which wasn't sexual in the least; and 2) have you seen the man?!?!?!
