What Wanderlust said. I remember hearing him bring them up several times. After spirits, hygiene, and grapes, it seems to be the most recurring topic of interest to him.

Maybe it is his character flaw:

"Well, it's not as if I introduce myself that way. "Hello, my name is Dorian. I like cats." Maybe I should start. Some days it seems that's all anyone cares about."

Also gambling, it is the main thing him and Varric talk about.

Let's be honest though, Varric does quite a bit of gambling. Maybe not as much as he did in Kirkwall, but he's always down for a card game.

I'd have to peg him as a cat person, but I think he could learn to learn to like the right kind of dog. Cats seem more his speed though, what with the obstinate personalities and fastidious grooming. He appreciates intelligence though, so I think he could learn to like a mabari (one regularly bathed of course.)

@Frost, that's why I love the thought my IQ giving him dogs and Dorian falling in love with them...even if he won't outright admit it.

Feh, they are terribly dull and he hates them.

First thing that comes to mind is Vivienne bringing up the "Smart enough to talk, wise enough not to" thing.

Second thing is this:

Inquisitor: Why is the dog sleeping in your chair? I thought you "absolutely forbid" it?

Dorian: Varric taught him to play Wicked Grace. In retrospect, betting my chair was a rather poor decision.

I was also thinking, behind all that sarcasm and sass, Dorian is actually a very emotional and sensitive person, as we can see in his personal quest and what he says to the IQ, that ending the relation later may be dangerous and walking away will be harder. And he is sad he can't hope for more in his relations, because deep down, he wants more than just casual fun. He also approves when you care about him asking him "are you all right?". All that makes me think how much emotional support a dog could give him in those sad moments, because dogs are great support and it's like they just want to make their owner happy. I imagine dog coming to him when Dorian is sad, and Dorian hugging dog, while feeling a bit better and loving that dog for the support. :)

Though, as a cat owner (and previous dog owner), I feel compelled to add: Cats aren't nearly as aloof as they are made out to be. And there's nothing quite as comforting as holding a warm bundle of purring love. It's perhaps the bond made with the animal, and not the type of animal itself that would make this a wonderful thing for Dorian.

To add to this, cats don't really expect anything from you. If they want to be around you they come near, if they don't they go off. I think Dorian would appreciate that also. IMO dogs require more overt affection from their humans than cats do.

Anders to DA2 Dog: Be a real pet. Ignore me until you want something, then sit on my head.

That and cats tend to focus on one person when it comes to affection. My cats tends to act not only aloof but downright anti-social to most people, but she's affectionate to the point of being a bit annoying when it's with me.

Honestly all the animals have their ups and downs and i could really see Dorian getting attached to any of them... well except for maybe a fish, 'cause you can't cuddle a fish and Dorian is totally a cuddler... though he probably wouldn't admit it :)

I'd expect Dorian to grumble about how his little friend just loves to shed all over his wardrobe, and how he/she likes to use his staff as a scratching post.

Also, am I the only one who pictures older Dorian as Dr. Orpheus?

Oh, yeah, I saw that when I was skimming his Tumblr tag earlier.

I'm not that worked up over it because he or she does have half a point. I'm seen a few Tumblr posts (unknowingly?) perpetuating the lecherous, predatory gay stereotype (I remember one of Dorian and Sera doing a high five before walking into gender exclusive saunas), but as usual with Tumblr "activists" they took a bit of wisdom and exaggerated it to hyperbole. There's absolutely nothing wrong with fan art and the like showing Dorian embracing his sexuality with consenting partners. Neutering gay people is just as reductive as portraying them as sex obsessed.

Okay, so I realize how everyone has been sharing this left and right and let's break down a few things:

1. before you start talking about someone make sure you check who they are and what they do properly, otherwise you will make yourself look like a fool: I am not a ''he or she''(which is not appropriate to say anyway, considering you do not know who people are, or their identities), I am an agender person.
2. Calling someone an activist, or a tumblr activist is not an insult. That being said, I am not an activist, I am a simple gay person who is upset about how poorly dragon age fans tread the an openly gay character. Does that make me an activist? By yours, and everyone else's words, evidently so. Please step down from your high horse and join us down to reality.
& 3. Please read this semi-long reply I wrote about all of this and in the future make sure you know what you are talking about when you attempt to start an argument about something, or someone, you know vaguely about.

The most people who visited that post and re-blogged it are refereed to from your comment, so it is your comment specifically I am replying to, I will not bother going through the rest, because Dragon Age fandom has proven to be an exhausting and irritating space to tolerate. Thank you and Goodbye.

Ummm, you should probably direct your words directly to the people hypersexualizing him then instead of making blanket statements that lump people together. All most people here have said is he hasn't been treated like that here.

And I get that it's a personal issue for you and that's why you care, but seriously it would help the world be a better place if we could all start caring about the plights of all people and how all people are portrayed instead of only complaining about the things which affect us personally. No one deserves to be treated like a piece of meat or be hypersexualized all the time and it really doesn't matter what sex, gender, or sexuality they are. This is not an issue only affecting one group.

Um, I WAS directing my words to people who were hypsersexualizing, until that person posted this here and commented on it. Like, what, you can say something about my post, but I can't reply? Lol, please, we're all grown people here, (I hope) let's act like it.
Also lmao I'm not even going to reply to that passive-aggressive word twisting in the second paragraph of your message. If you wanted to care about the ''plights of all people'' you wouldn't need to type this message, like, why are you going out to say ''don't talk about this'' when this is clearly an issue that is a ''plight'' for ''the world''. And this is a specific issue affecting a specific group SPECIFICALLY. Lol. Please, stop embarrassing yourself.

Seriously these people that enter forum just to flame and ruin the general mood are boring as hell. You guys should just ignore, because he doesn't deserve more.

Start easy... take a look at all the hypersexualization of female game characters... if you can't see that problem exists you aren't even trying. It's not a problem affect just one group at all.

First of all, I apologize for misgendering you. You didn't list your pronouns in the sidebar of your Tumblr, though, or in your about section. If the information isn't easily accessible, I don't really feel like you can be that indignant about someone not knowing. (Side note: How can you be agender and gay? I'm not trying to be combative about it, but it's an interesting combination of labels since gay means attracted to the same gender.)

As a gay man, I disagree that this is a subject that I know vaguely about.

Other than that, I don't really feel the need to address anything else due to your tone. I tried to understand your perspective, which is more than most of your critics have, and you hurl passive-aggressiveness at me. Thank you and goodbye, indeed.

It's funny how you try to shift from the issue at hand. It's almost like you have no idea what you are talking about :) Gay male hypersexualization and female hypersexualization are two completely different issues, with different power dynamics enforcing them :) It's almost like gay men and women are two different groups, how crazy is that? But, like, HEY, weren't you talking about cuddly animals :)

I don't have critics as I'm not a celebrity blogger, and the subject I was talking about was about linking posts from people's private tumblrs on a public forum, not you being gay. Also I don't have to explain me being agender to you, or anyone, just like you don't need to explain you being a gay man to anyone, so I would advice against saying that to people in the future. There is google, take advantage of it. And, again, get off your high horse. Goodbye.

Tumblrs aren't private, they are literally publicly accessible. And I'm not the one who linked you here. You can thank Steelcan for that. I'm just the one who asked him about it when he said something cryptic about Tumblr. I would advise you to double check your reading comprehension before you fling accusations at people.

I didn't say you need to explain yourself, I asked because I was interested. But fair enough, you don't have to explain yourself. You're clearly much more interested in talking down to people.

I saw this post first not on this forum, but in the dorian tag on tumblr. When it goes to a well-read tag, it opens up discussion to anyone that reads that.

Just a general tumblr note: If you want your posts to be more semi-private (nothing is really private on tumblr), your first five tags on a post will show up in  tags. If you have something that you don't want going into a tag, it's better to fill up your first five tags with things that wouldn't be followed. You could still use tags like "dorian" or "dorian pavus" after those first 5 tags, if you want to be able to organize your blog and find your thoughts about the subject later.

To be on subject, I was using flycam last night, and got some really nice pictures of Dorian looking over the railing in the library. I should lighten it up, but I'll post it now, just to be on topic! :)
