You do know Cullen is a friendship only sort of guy? I know because my guy pursued him at first but then got a polite refusal.
Quick question: I'm following the Dorian "I want a relationship first before sex" romance path and have just done Into the Abyss and according to the Wiki if I'm in relationship with him he ought to be telling me how worried he was when he got to the Fade and thought I wasn't there (or something like that) but I've just gone to talk to him and get the usual heart icon "We need to talk" (where I normally ask for a kiss). So did me banishing the Wardens mean my approval is too low? Or does this not count as a proper romance? Or is it bugged and may be in need to reload and go through the final fight again? Would appreciate knowing, please.

I slept with Dorian and the convo didn't come up right away. Try leaving skyhold and returning and talk to him again, that would usually do it.

People know, some here just enjoy the ship.
Anyway, you are in a proper relationship, you may need to either do the judgment that comes at the end of the mission or leave and come back. I don't know why it does that, but sometimes it can be a problem.

I went exploring in the Hissing Wastes earlier, and I was kind of hoping for a Raiders of the Lost Ark sort of arc with the Venatori and Fariel's tomb. Some tier 3 schematics and a rune were a bit of a letdown.

I've always taken Varric with me for this quest, so I've missed this line until now. I guess Varric's "tool" line supersedes it. Sorry Varric, don't think you'll be coming along anymore!
Hehe, yea I finally saw that one on my last pt too. I almost fell over laughing ![]()
This PT has also been interesting for me because since I am actually not playing a mage I've also been taking Vivianne along with me (In my mage PTs I switch between Dorian and Solas). Her and Dorian have some interesting dialogue and surprisingly some of it has led me to like her more. Like the whole banter about her replying to someone who wrote her a letter complaining about the relationship, her response was awesome and totally unexpected. I love seeing actual character growth happen and I feel like the romance with Dorian provides a catalyst for her to grow some.
I've also been using Blackwall for the first time in this PT and he has some funny banter with Dorian as well. There's one where Dorian offers to draw him some diagrams which was quite amusing ![]()

The fact that I got the "stop saying tool!" banter with him and Sera on the way to the tower only made it better.
I'm curious as to why "Let's toss Erimond into the nearest rift and see how he likes it!" wasn't an option.

i'm also currently drudging through the fade with dorian (thank the maker it's not like the dao fade) and does dorian ever say what the little spider demons look like for him? i had cassandra's maggots, and varric's red lyrium corruptees, but i don't know whether some particular party makeup would let me learn dorian's, or if only some companions have the dialogue. anyone know?
on an unrelated note, i also seem to have a twitchy screencap finger whenever dorian's face appears on the screen, i can't help myself, he's face is just so... dear to me ![]()

^ Hah, that's a great shot of his teeth. I always find myself looking at his lower canines for some reason. Pointy! [I seriously need help.]

...*is now staring at his lower canines*... They are pointy. He really does have great teeth, though.

Cullen was almost available to everyone, but time and animation resources didn't allow for it.
I actually read they cut it because they just ran out of time. It would have been so amusing to have him open to male pcs though. I don't think the shade of red his face would turn if you romanced him as a male pc even exists.

Was he SUPER angry? I can't picture him being anything else, but I'm surprised Varric's dialogue gets priority in that scene, I just assumed he didn't have any for some reason. Gonna have to try that.

haha, i noticed that as well, very pointy... but than, i'm aware, i'd probably find it excellent if dorian sported a forked tongue, at this point i'm just no longer reliable...

If you're asking if Dorian was super angry... erm not really? He says the line in a serious manner, which is kind of incongruous with the actual statement, but he's not outwardly angry, no.
This is actually one of my favorite scenes in the game because I like the way that Livius lays out the entire plan as you question him, completely believes in everything he is saying, and is totally confident that it will work. IMO he is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with Tevinter.
I do wish Dorian had more of a response though. Some of his lack of response during these Venatori things really seems like a missed opportunity to me, but I'm just going to assume that the devs were trying to be equitable and also juggling word budgets. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice any of Dorian's other conversation for a couple of extra lines about Livius.

I was watching videos on youtube and I was reminded of a question I had meant to ask you guys. When you go to meet the merchant about Dorian's amulet at one point the merchant says "I am not a fence" ... which is confusing to me. My best guess is he means he's not stupid, but it doesn't really seem to fit. Any of you heard that expression before and know what he meant better?
Here's the specific video I was watching to see it in context if you don't remember ![]()

this seems to be an issue with a lot of... well, everything in inquisition. i don't want to bash the game, since i enjoy it, really, i like the characters, and have fun with the open world, but... there are so many missed opportunities... ![]()
to stay on topic - dorian's reaction after here lies the abyss is nearly identical whether you romance him or are just a friend, female, male, doesn't matter...
i like that he cares either way, but come on, if i didn't play those pretty much side by side i could probably barely tell the difference.
it seems like the content was made as much 'unisex' as it could be, to save production and resources time - and i mean 'unisex' as in 'lowest common denominator to fit all possible game choices'
edit: i also noticed my comment lead to an argument that didn't make much sense :| what i meant was - sex gating is fine with me, but at least differentiate the content please.

@Arlee - a fence is a person who deals in stolen merchandise. He is stating that the item in question wasn't stolen, but acquired through legal means.

Also, Dorian's biggest fear is temptation, but he doesn't mention what he sees. It could be him turning into his father...or the little fearlings look like a romanced Inquisitor.

Doesn't the fear demon say something about Dorian turning into his father. IIRC Dorian's response is "well, that was uncalled for!" ![]()

I tend to agree. I still feel like maybe they should have been a little less ambitious with the sheer number of characters this go-round and focused on giving us enough dialogue to really get properly attached to the characters we did have. It was really noticeable with characters like Varric and Vivienne that they simply didn't have a lot of direct conversation options.
I love this game to bits as well but I kind of feel like they used the party banter as a bit of a character development crutch in some respects. (Don't get me wrong I love seeing the character development there) but instead of listening to Cole constantly pestering Dorian about his problems, it would have been nice to get more than a single conversation with him about it that barely glosses over his father and offers no real chance to be there for him when he's troubled in the capacity a lover should be.

Post Here Lies the Abyss convo definitely should have included some physical interaction with a romanced Inquisitor. At least a hug, or better, a sweep him off his feet style kiss. "I thought this is it. This is where I finally lose him forever," is by far the most honest, sad, and romantic thing Dorian says about their relationship... and then that moment goes nowhere. You don't even get to reply to it. Just into some bullshit about how you felt about the fade which is just plugged in from the friend conversation. Such a disappointment.
And the almost equally disappointing thing is that you can't reference that conversation when the two of you talk about Dorian going back to Tevinter. When you offer to come with him and he shoots you down, I would have killed for something along the lines of "It's too dangerous for you to do completely on your own. You're not the only one worried about losing some you care about."
