I hate to be a Debbie Downer about the whole lute thing, but as this is the second or third time I've seen this referenced in connection to Dorian I feel I should say something. I've noticed the lute in the library as well as the one in the Inquisitor's

OHMYGOD DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?! The Inquisitor and Dorian are going to start a lute band with the bard called 'The Young and the Lutiful.'

My very first attempt at modding....and of course it had to be Dorian lol! It's a simple texture color of Dorian's skyhold Outfit.

Thanks! Yeah, I can't really stand the brown. Not that it's a bad color but it looks so...plain...lol!   He's from Tevinter so I thought something darker with some sort of design would suit him.

@Somber, I've had the mod of him without facial hair for a while, I almost forget he has a stache.

I like the darker color! Though, to be honest, I find his bared deltoid quite distracting, heh. I really feel that I would struggle not to stare at it, were I confronted by Dorian in real life.

You just know this was tailor made for his body too, it covers the nipple just perfectly. Though I don't doubt if he were real we'd see it if he moved a certain way. >.>

Oh, I've just seen a Dorian-related post that David Gaider made in a thread about Qunari (of all things).

Going to repost it here for reference...

I will also point out, since Dorian was mentioned, that Dorian's father did not have a problem with his homosexuality in and of itself.

His problem was that Dorian refused to do his duty as the heir of a proud Tevinter family. If Dorian had agreed to marry as intended, and kept his homosexuality as a private conceit, there would have been no conflict. The issue insofar as Tevinter society goes is not with homosexuality in and of itself, but with their insistence on a public standard for any and all members of the upper class -- no one does blood magic, no one is anything other than their perfect ideal, and the polite fiction must always be maintained. Appearances are everything, even if every single person understands that the truth behind closed doors is completely different.

tl;dr: It's not about Tevinter "suddenly being homophobic when the rest of Thedas isn't", it's about Tevinter society's preoccupation with appearances.

Take that as you will.

This matches very well with my take on the matter, as observed in the game. I'm really quite glad he clarified this.

This explains why I can't get it out of my head even though I only know half the words.

Same. From the way it's explained the Calling sounds like what happens in Too Many Cooks.

I just did the sexytime part of Dorian's romance, and I admit I was really surprised to see his a$$. Though not nearly as shocked as when I saw my lady Inquisitor's bewbs on my IB playthrough. I wonder how much farther BW is going to go with the nudity in future games, is this the extent, or are we one day going to see some bits.

I think Dorian looks more handsome without the 'stache, but it's like he's missing a piece of his personality.

^ Showing "bits" would probably get them an AO rating and be the death knell for the series.

Besides, while we like our romance content, Bioware doesn't make porn games. The devs have also expressed disinterest in making more graphic sex scenes like those found in The Witcher games. So I'm thinking this is likely as far as they'll go.

Dorian is Tyrone Power in the Mark of Zorro.   He even has the same little 'tash.   Stick an Inquisitor hat on him and the resemblance is even more uncanny.    I've always had a thing for Tyrone Power so it was hardly surprising that the first time he turned up at Haven I sort of melted (and thought damn, why did I decide to play a girl?).   His character even seems a little bit based on Tyrone's Zorro, who portrays the image of a foppish noble who can't take anything seriously so people don't realise what he is really.   Josephine says pretty much the same about Dorian.

Oh that's an interesting thought. I grew-up watching reruns of the Guy Williams Zorro TV show so that's always how I imagine Zorro in my head, but I looked up some pictures of Tyrone Power as Zorro as well and I can definitely see what you mean.

Literally the only thing they have in common, appearance wise, is the stache. And even those don't look the same. Why not say Dorian is based off of Hitler while they're at it?

Lol, and Godwin's Law it is :)

I thought Dorian's design seemed familiar! I love Autolycus from Xena!

Much like Dorian, he has that "charming, sophisticated, dashing, swashbuckling rogue" look and attitude going for him, but he has a complete heart of gold. He likes to act like he's a selfish bad boy, but when faced with personal gain or doing the right thing/helping his friends, he always chooses the right thing. Just like Dorian! :D

Doc is one of my two absolute favorite companions from swtor so I was having a hard time telling if the similarity I was seeing had mostly to do with my immense liking for both or not. I'm actually sort of sad I don't remember Autolycus from Xena at all >< Idk how it's possible because I really liked that show at one point. I think now I need to go back and watch some of the episodes and see for myself. Maybe it's more of an iteration of an idea than trying to do the same thing (because Doc and Dorian definitely have very different personalities).

Dorian without mustache is really. Odd:huh:

Yea... I have kind of gotten used to seeing it, but it still feels weird. Like I'm sure if I used the mod I'd get over the weirdness fairly quickly but since I can't I see him all the time with his facial hair so I never get used to seeing him without it... if that made any sort of sense :)

Thanks! Yeah, I can't really stand the brown. Not that it's a bad color but it looks so...plain...lol!   He's from Tevinter so I thought something darker with some sort of design would suit him.

I tend to like putting him in dark greens/dark teal a lot (though green is my favorite color so I am biased). I also am always amused because I always craft gear for my Inquisitor and him (regardless of doing his romance or not) so he's always color coordinated with my Inquisitor :)

Yay! I'm really happy he posted that because it agrees with my interpretation (yay me :P ) and it's a point I have seen people bring up a lot which depending on how you interpret things can REALLY color your view on things. It's like how some people thought at one point Mother Giselle's problem was and issue with the gay relationship instead of it actually being about him being from Tevintor.

Lol, yea. I had only done the Cullen and Solas romances before Dorian's and when I got to that part I was totally surprised/shocked. Like it wasn't a bad thing but I totally wasn't expecting it at all. But yea I doubt they would go much further than what we have seen here.

It's pretty obvious to anyone with basic reading comprehension and critical thinking skills, but it's nice to have it word of God'd for the next time someone else is being an idiot about it.

I agree, the bare parts of his body are just too distracting along with the beauty mark. I do like how the darker color sort of makes his skin more noticeable. He sort of blended in with the brown a little too much.

I love matching Dorian to my Quizzy! My favorite is the white fabric from the Hissing Waste. I pretty much put all my Mages in it and ended my PT with some style. lol!!

A mage that spends so much time in the library just *should not* have shoulders like that! Or thighs like that. -sigh-

That's really nice. I love the texture of it and yes, the darker color suits him well.  I also like him without the stache - it's just a personal preference as i prefer a beard with a mustache in general.  (think of how nice he would look with a very close cropped beard along the jawline).  I wish I could mod!  <_<  Unfortunately I do not have the game on PC.

I wish that would work for my Quizzy.  I like playing an elf but he could use at least an inch or two more at the shoulders lol.
