Dorian is Tyrone Power in the Mark of Zorro. He even has the same little 'tash. Stick an Inquisitor hat on him and the resemblance is even more uncanny. I've always had a thing for Tyrone Power so it was hardly surprising that the first time he turned up at Haven I sort of melted (and thought damn, why did I decide to play a girl?). His character even seems a little bit based on Tyrone's Zorro, who portrays the image of a foppish noble who can't take anything seriously so people don't realise what he is really. Josephine says pretty much the same about Dorian.
Oh that's an interesting thought. I grew-up watching reruns of the Guy Williams Zorro TV show so that's always how I imagine Zorro in my head, but I looked up some pictures of Tyrone Power as Zorro as well and I can definitely see what you mean.
Literally the only thing they have in common, appearance wise, is the stache. And even those don't look the same. Why not say Dorian is based off of Hitler while they're at it?
Lol, and Godwin's Law it is
I thought Dorian's design seemed familiar! I love Autolycus from Xena!
Much like Dorian, he has that "charming, sophisticated, dashing, swashbuckling rogue" look and attitude going for him, but he has a complete heart of gold. He likes to act like he's a selfish bad boy, but when faced with personal gain or doing the right thing/helping his friends, he always chooses the right thing. Just like Dorian!
Doc is one of my two absolute favorite companions from swtor so I was having a hard time telling if the similarity I was seeing had mostly to do with my immense liking for both or not. I'm actually sort of sad I don't remember Autolycus from Xena at all >< Idk how it's possible because I really liked that show at one point. I think now I need to go back and watch some of the episodes and see for myself. Maybe it's more of an iteration of an idea than trying to do the same thing (because Doc and Dorian definitely have very different personalities).
Dorian without mustache is really. Odd.
Yea... I have kind of gotten used to seeing it, but it still feels weird. Like I'm sure if I used the mod I'd get over the weirdness fairly quickly but since I can't I see him all the time with his facial hair so I never get used to seeing him without it... if that made any sort of sense
Thanks! Yeah, I can't really stand the brown. Not that it's a bad color but it looks so...plain...lol! He's from Tevinter so I thought something darker with some sort of design would suit him.
@Somber, I've had the mod of him without facial hair for a while, I almost forget he has a stache.
I tend to like putting him in dark greens/dark teal a lot (though green is my favorite color so I am biased). I also am always amused because I always craft gear for my Inquisitor and him (regardless of doing his romance or not) so he's always color coordinated with my Inquisitor
Oh, I've just seen a Dorian-related post that David Gaider made in a thread about Qunari (of all things).
Going to repost it here for reference...
This matches very well with my take on the matter, as observed in the game. I'm really quite glad he clarified this.
Yay! I'm really happy he posted that because it agrees with my interpretation (yay me
) and it's a point I have seen people bring up a lot which depending on how you interpret things can REALLY color your view on things. It's like how some people thought at one point Mother Giselle's problem was and issue with the gay relationship instead of it actually being about him being from Tevintor.
I just did the sexytime part of Dorian's romance, and I admit I was really surprised to see his a$$. Though not nearly as shocked as when I saw my lady Inquisitor's bewbs on my IB playthrough. I wonder how much farther BW is going to go with the nudity in future games, is this the extent, or are we one day going to see some bits.
Lol, yea. I had only done the Cullen and Solas romances before Dorian's and when I got to that part I was totally surprised/shocked. Like it wasn't a bad thing but I totally wasn't expecting it at all. But yea I doubt they would go much further than what we have seen here.
