As I've mentioned, I'm replaying my Lavellan with Dorian on the alternative mage path, so have done Hushed Whispers and as a result get Dorian at Haven, have the opportunity to chat and flirt, etc, before we get to Skyhold. When I take the Inquisitor sword and take the option "an elf will stand for us all", I get slight approval from Solas, disapproval from Sera, and slight approval from Dorian. I'm almost certain I haven't had that before either with my girl Lavellan with whom I did my previous mage run or on the Templar run with this guy. Is it because we've been through time together and I've flirted with him as a guy? I found it rather touching that he is already supporting me as a proud elf but have this feeling that perhaps he does that with every race. Does he in fact show his approval on every option, apart from the "doing it for myself one" if you have already flirted with him? I'd be really interest to know.
You are not misremembering, you did not get approval on the templar path. The reason for this is because at that time Dorian is not an official member of the party. He only becomes an actual follower after you talk to him, and recruit him, in the Skyhold library. The same thing applies to recruiting Cole on the mage path.
As far as the options go, I think Dorian would approve anything (even slightly) that's not "MOAR POWER!" since you know, that's part of the mentality that has harmed Tevinter. You do get "Dorian Greatly Approves" if you select "Corypheus must be stopped."
Oh and for some reason, there's a different angle to the shot of the love interest walking out to the balcony that I did not see in my last 2 playthroughs. With Blackwall and Josie, they were filmed from the side as they look at Morrigan and kind of shake their heads in confusion. Dorian's was a front shot, so you see his clear expression and that sideways glance he gives Morrigan is sort of priceless lol. It was a pleasant surprise.
I saw a gif set of each LI walking out to the balcony. Some of them are from the side while others are from the front. Those from the front, particularly Cullen and Dorian, both give Morrigan the same sideways look as she walks by.
Does anyone else automatically think a certain uncomplimentary word that may, or may not be flitting through Dorian's head when he glances sidelong at Morrigan on his way by? I've had that humorous impression since the first play through. It can't be just me.
Can't say I have, and I'm not a huge Morrigan fan either. None of the follower LI were present when the Inquisitor talks to Morrigan initially so this is likely their first time seeing her. You can reference her during a dialog with the three advisors, who already know about her, especially in the case of Leliana who knows her personally.
Morrigan is a presence all her own; her attitude, carriage, and appearance draw attention and curiosity. She walks away from the Inquisitor -- a force all their own, who has just decided the fate of a nation -- like she owns the place with her usual demeanor of confidence, which is surprising (to those that don't know her) in the presence of the empress of a powerful nation, as well as hundreds of members of the nobility.
I think 'the look' is a natural one given the circumstances, and I've never seen anything untoward in it. I'm not saying such thoughts are beyond Dorian, but I've never seen it in this circumstance.
Or I could just be naive. /shrug
