There's a mod to change his Skyhold outfit to black, actually. It was just released today. Of course, it's PC only, but hey, it is a thing of beauty. The piccies are of a no-mustache Dorian, but once I have the mod installed, I'll snap a few with a mustache and post them, if people would like.

On weapons its if you hit, on armor its if you get hit. But it doesn't always seem to work. There's so much in the game that has little to no explanation, I miss the old KOTOR days, I at least understand D&D 3.5. It could be worse, we could have Witcher combat, in which my tactic was to knock enemies down with the Aard sign and just coup de grace them because actually attempting to fight was such a pain.
As for dressing Dorian in black, Patch 5 is introducing armor tints so color isn't tied solely to material anymore.
It is always if you hit. I have it on armor, Dorian has full guard and I'm sure that nobody is attacking him.
Thanks to everyone who answered my question about guard
.
I have a thing about matching bonus properties to the item type. For example, something that gives a bonus when you hit I prefer to place on a weapon, whereas something like "Abilities cost 10% less mana/stamina if not being hit for 5 seconds," seems more appropriate on armor. This is a weird mental issue of mine and is the main reason I wanted to know

Random question but do you guys think elf ears are sensitive? I'm asking because they have those hoods/helmets/whatever that leaves their ears completely exposed. Now this could just be because they're big and it might be annoying but I dunno. Isn't the point of a hood to keep your head warm or dry? Why would leave two huge holes for your ears unless they were really sensitive to touch? And hoods look relatively capacious so it's not like you'd be shoving your ears in at a weird angle. Unless you had really diagonal ears. Then again maybe it's just like a loud declaration of their elvenness. I could see how the Dalish at the very least would dig that. #elvenprideparade #packyourantiburqas #likeasslesschapsbutforyourears
Abelas's ears are covered by his hood.

I wouldn't put too much thought into it, to be honest. This is probably one of those game model issues that has nothing to do with the lore. For example, Qunari were always supposed to have horns, but it was cut from DAO because of issues with Sten wearing helmets. So unless you see it specifically mentioned somewhere by a dev, in some ancillary material, or in a game, I wouldn't make a general assumption that elven ears are sensitive.
OR, if you want this information for a fanfic or something, you can always just go with whatever works for you, since nothing has been confirmed or denied regarding this. In the Star Trek universe, the (very large) ears of the Ferengi race are their main erogenous zone, so there's that.
Continuing with the fanfic angle, when I think about my DA couples I tend to come up with preferred intimate gestures that they will use, usually focusing on some area. So you can also have something like that relating to elf ears, even without feeling the necessity to mention elf ear sensitivity. This also has the potential for (delicious) angst if you have an elf NPC LI paired with a non-elf, who might wonder at the attention to this aspect of their elfness.
So, I don't think you have to have a specific reason like "elf ear sensitivity" in order to come up with various scenarios.
Finally, if you were just asking simply because of the armor issue... then sorry I digressed on all that other stuff. >.>
To be honest, your ears do not have to be ultra sensitive to feel uncomfortable squashed under a helmet or hat. However, there is probably an element of pride in it as well, given how insults tend to be directed towards the ears. Briala's mother didn't want her to be ashamed of showing her ears and she is a city elf. I would imagine that the Dalish would be even more inclined to feel that showing their ears was a badge of honour. Don't be guided by Abelas and his kin; it is clear that modern day Dalish culture has very little in common with their ancestors, as he has no hesitation in pointing out, ears or no ears, "You are not of my People."
Is it me, or does Dorian look naked without his moustache, worse than naked, actually like an imposter is trying to pass himself off as Dorian? It is odd because I would have preferred him not to have had a moustache if it had been that way from the beginning because I'm not a big fan of facial hair but now it seems part of his charm.

I agree. When I first saw him, I hoped it was some kind of joke. I thought he looks ridiculous. Now I growl at people who say such blasphemous things

I was mostly asking out of idle curiousity though I do enjoy the extra info/insight.

I say you go with what suits you in your head story. But if you want a more medical answer to bounce thoughts with, I doubt having additional cartilage makes them more sensitive than regular ears. But the additional length would make them more apt to get pinched at odd angles or be put in line to be chaffed. Most of us don't like having our ears pushed at odd angles or chaffed continually by headphones or other things. A cloth hood isn't going to be a big deal but a heavy helmet is a different story. Again, go with what feels right for you since elf ears are a fantasy contrivance anyway ![]()

I was the same, at first I thought 'wth, I don't even like Cullen and now I'm going to have to romance him, because the other options are Mr. Cartoon Villain Stache, Baldy McShinyson, and Bearded Hobo.'
Then I played the game and abandoned my 50-hours-into Cullenmance playthrough to romance Dorian, and I honestly can't imagine that stache not being there to accentuate the beautiful features of that chiseled face... ![]()
And the only thing that currently troubles me about Solas is my elven female characters' giant head on a stick body appearance.

I recently added the no-mustache mod out of curiousity. Just see the extent of how much Ramon's look set the initial concept of Dorian's look. I ended up liking it. He looks the actual age his story arc hints him to be. Like many many other young men who grow a stache to look older and more serious. But I like Dorian with and without equally. It's just novel to do a play-through without it.
I got my saved Screens off my PS4 \o/ Here's one I took with one of my favorite Dorian armor color combinations (and being marvelously color coordinated with my Inquisitor). Also sort of funny thing I just noticed is Blackwall is in the background giving them a look, which just amuses me on some level. ![]()

Awwww, I was delighted to meet Hipster Mage Dorian, which is what I called him when we first met. I was kinda disappointed that Dorian didn't have tattoos (a snake around that bare arm or up into his neck would have been perfect), or piercings.
Septum piercing! That would be fabulous. I saw a concept art of him with piercings, and I love it. I have several piercings (septum, stretched ears at 9/16" with second holes at 2g, a dermal punch in my conch at 4g, and a 14g industrial in my other ear). Some facial piercings just enhance the way some people look.
If my character could have stretched ears and a septum in game, he would. I just imagine it on him in my head instead.

aww you're making me miss my septum piercing... I couldn't wear facial piercings to work and had to retire them, which wasn't a big deal, overall, but I really do regret having to give up the septum. I just particularly like that one on people.
On topic, Dorian is always perfect, but a little golden septum would have been adorable on him, imo... ![]()
Has any indication ever been given of Dorian's age? Take away the facial hair and he certainly looks younger. Also people from Tevinter keep referring to him as boy. His father is understandable since some parents do have an annoying habit of always thinking of you as children but our friend in the north did the same. She's probably more his parents' age but even so. There comes a point where "boy" starts to sound patronising if you have left those years far behind you.

There's no absolute indication or WoG, tmk, but I think most people are split between mid-late twenties (ie, the grad student age) because of his description of his work with Alexius and how it made him sound like a graduate student in terms of his education and life experience, and early-mid thirties because of a comment WoG made in an interview concerning him. In deference to both, he's 30 in my mind. Old enough to know better, young enough to still do it.
And I maaaay have played around with Hazegurl's mod Dorian in Black today, and gotten new screenies.

I kept getting sick in December, colds every other week, so ended up taking mine out for about 6 weeks. It shrunk from 2g to 8g
But I am getting some new buffalo tapers to get it back up to the "correct" size, which should be easy, it stretched better than my ears did, just sort of stuck in the jewelry and that was all, didn't even need a taper for it.
Mine's larger so I can wear kaos earskins in it, but you could always get it done and wear a staple retainer in it
Then no one but you would know! I have body issues, so I refuse to let my piercings close up, they are a big part of me being comfortable and happy with myself, luckily, both my jobs don't care, I just take them out for the 4 hours a day I am at one, and wear them at the other.
