There's no absolute indication or WoG, tmk, but I think most people are split between mid-late twenties (ie, the grad student age) because of his description of his work with Alexius and how it made him sound like a graduate student in terms of his education and life experience, and early-mid thirties because of a comment WoG made in an interview concerning him. In deference to both, he's 30 in my mind. Old enough to know better, young enough to still do it.

I generally think of him as being between somewhere in the 28-32 range and I generally think Felix is about 10 years younger.

I seriously suck at crafting, so just for shtits and giggles I made Dorian the shiniest armor possible, I didn't even care for stats.

He looks like he dressed himself up in curtains.

What material is the silver part? I must not have made anything with whatever it is.

For those of you who want a fantastic bit of crafting resources, try these:

Cloths and their colors/tiers

Leathers and their colors/tiers

Metals and their colors/tiers

Highly, highly recommend using these posts as references. They've been absolutely amazing for me.

At least you spared him the Plaidweave.  ;)

Huh, I don't even know if I've ever even gotten Royal Sea Silk. It doesn't sound familiar at all. Then again I wasn't aware of Imperial Vestment Cotton until recently. They make it so much harder to get enough cloth for armor compared to metal and leather.

I was having the opposite problem on my rogue. I always had tons of cloth and metal for making things for Solas and Dorian, but I never had enough leather for my Inquisitor's gear. Was sort of frustrating.

I recently added the no-mustache mod out of curiousity.  Just see the extent of how much Ramon's look set the initial concept of Dorian's look.  I ended up liking it.  He looks the actual age his story arc hints him to be.  Like many many other young men who grow a stache to look older and more serious.  But I like Dorian with and without equally.  It's just novel to do a play-through without it.

I agree, he looks good no matter what and besides, people change their looks all the time. He could grow a beard, get some stubble, shave it all off, grow his hair long, or keep it short and he'll still be perfect.

@tklivory, I'm glad you're enjoying the mod! :D

I took some shots of Dorian w/ stache and put it on Nexus.

Considering the Dorian/Morrigan conversation I missed, I headcanon them as off screen besties. I just desperately want two of my three favorite snarky mages to get along.

Drops from Venatori Mages/Spellbinders in the Hissing Wastes. What surprises me is that Val Royeaux, heart of Orlais and fashion capital of Southern Thedas doesn't have a fabric merchant.

Well, I usually have tons of cloth, just never enough to make what I want to main fabric for the armor. And you can't go hunt animals or mine minerals like you can for medium and heavy armor.

Right? Like how is that even possible? I can buy all sorts of crazy beds but not cloth? o.O

Part of the issue for me is I actively try to avoid killing animals whenever I can >< But I do always seem to be rolling in all the cloth for some reason. Not really sure why that is.

Tier 3 has the problem of "good stats but looks silly" I honestly can only picture this:

Vivienne: Is that new armor dear? Or did you raid Sera's wardrobe?

Dorian: (sighs) This? It was a gift.

On the whole i agree, but I have also been known to have an entire party outfitted in Volcanic Aurum and King's WIllow Weave because I like gold.  ;)  Gold looks good on everyone, right?

Has any indication ever been given of Dorian's age?    Take away the facial hair and he certainly looks younger.   Also people from Tevinter keep referring to him as boy.   His father is understandable since some parents do have an annoying habit of always thinking of you as children but our friend in the north did the same.   She's probably more his parents' age but even so.    There comes a point where "boy" starts to sound patronising if you have left those years far behind you.

No, nothing canon specific ever mentioned.  I have assumed mid 20s or maybe slightly younger based partly on him being referred to as "boy" or "Young man" by everyone including the Inquisitor.  But I've seen many clues that just don't add up to age 30+ anymore for me, particularly having already lived through mine hehe.  He's extremely skilled in magic and politics and remarkably naive about everything else (like long term relationships and caring a bit much about what people think of him).  He's still pretty hurt about Daddy when most 30 year olds get jaded and say whatever.

Dunno.  I'm sure the devs will eventually let it out of the bag via a book or something else.  Til then I just roll with what feels right in my little head canon.

I would say between 25 and 28. His story line just wouldn't make any sense for someone older than 30 at most. He'd no longer be a student at that point and surely his father would have forced the marriage issue before then.

I love royale sea silk so much, from the moment I first say Vivienne in game (the outfit she appears in is made with it)...the only time I ever had any luck finding it was by having Josephine handle the fabric search.

Now I know to be more attentive to the Hissing Wastes. Thank you, Dr.

To me it seems he stopped working with Alexius awhile before leaving Tevinter. Like the order it seemed to me was he did whatever school thing they do there, did his apprenticeship with Alexius, his dad tries to force Dorian to do the marriage thing and Dorian refuses, he quits working with Alexius, Dorian finds out about the blood ritual plan his father has and leaves, some time after that (probably pretty close to the start of inquisition) Alexius finds him and tries to get him to join the Venitori which also then puts Dorian on alert that he's into something crazy and things need to be fixed, explosion at the Temple.

If things went like that I could see him definitely as late 20's early 30's.

I also imagine Dorian being around 28-30. I like to headcanon he is older than my Inquisitor.

And I just found this cute Dorian/Lavellan comic fanart. I love Dorian being taller

I completely understand why Dorian doesn't want to get married or have to hide who he truly is, but his obligations to House Pavus aren't just going to disappear. Yes, being in a noble in an arranged marriage can be less than ideal, but that's the case everywhere in Thedas. There's a reason why Orlais formalizes the position of Mistress/Paramour.

Still, it isn't exactly uncommon in history for men to be older than their wives. In fact, it was practically the norm for a 30-40 year old male to marry a young, virile female. Given the nature of arranged marriage, it might have been common or at least accepted for men in the higher Houses to delay marriage, particularly if the suitable bride (ie, the bride from the right house) was too young. The implication is that a bride *was* picked out for Dorian, but I can also see there being a societal acceptance of a man entering into marriage later than women.

I'd be interested in seeing how Tevinter's magical eugenics program came into being. The whole thing makes me think of the Benefit Gesserit and their concept of the Kwisatz Haderach from Dune.
