I was just rewatched a video of the scene where Dorian meets with his father and I was reminded that Dorian's response if the Inquisitor asks what he means when he says he prefers the company of men is pretty hysterical. I feel bad for laughing at it, because I don't think it is intended to be funny and that whole scene isn't funny and is rather serious. But every time I see a video with that line in I crack up. I don't even know why it's so funny to me ><

"Good. I'd hate to resort to drawing pictures." is my favorite line :D

Yay! I'm not weirdo! (at least not about this) ;)

But yea, his references to drawing diagrams come up a few times and it's always amusing. The best is when he offers to draw diagrams for Blackwall because you also get Blackwall's reaction which is fun. If it was me actually there I would totally say yes please draw diagrams, just for the amusement of seeing him try to do that ;)

Just... roamed too deeply into BSN. Thar be monsters lurking in the shadows, and they look the same as you or I. Well, except our choice of LI is far handsomer.

Yea, i usually don't roam too deep into the BSN, I prefer to stay in Dorian's thread most of the time because the BSN is dark and full of terrors....

You see whenever I venture that deep into BSN, I always post this gif and come to think of it...it is rather fitting for Dorian when he wants to partake in some wine.

OMFG what is she doing here??

Just a thread-unrelated question, since I also had a Sebastian-mancing Hawke that I left to rot perform a heroic sacrifice, did your Hawke mention Seb in her last moments? Mine only said to say goodbye to Varric, who later mentioned he was going to write Sebastian with the news... I thought that was a little cold of Hawke, but then again, I always knew she was a hypocritical mage-murdering douche... -_-

Actually, yes. My Hawke's last words to the Inquisitor were 'Say goodbye to Varric', but then she said to herself, 'Sorry, Sebastian' before she Archie'd the demon. So her last thoughts were (presumably) of Sebastian.

I think the Inquisitor querying about only being interested in men is relevant if you're a female Quizzy.  I mean they've been flirting away without him giving any indication that he's just leading her nowhere and then bam, it all comes out.   I think doing a double take and clarifying the information was valid; after all he could have been bisexual.

By contrast, my male Quizzy just said "I suspected as much", which was an understatement given the flirting that had gone on between them before getting to his father.

Huh, well, I'm pretty sure mine didn't say that unless I'd grown deaf. Might have been a glitch, then, since Varric's dialogue and Hawke's previous comments in the fade showed the romance registered.

Or, she was just that much of a meanie, aggressive Hawke, after all. Oh well.

To keep the post on the Dorian topic, does he have a nasty habit of spirit bombing the following for anyone else?

-the quest target

-the last demon of a rift

-the last enemy left standing

then you have to stand there like an idiot for a minute as their undeath runs out...  <_<

Oddly, my Hawke was a red Hawke. And VERY angry.

Actually there's a real easy fix for that. Once the battle is over, just switch to Dorian and cast the same spell that resurrected the enemy, and it'll 'die' again. The spell activates *and* deactivates the undead. I've got it down to three key clicks (on the PC): Select Dorian/hit key for spell shortcut/select Inquisitor and then I'm good to go.

Also I looove this Dorian art:

You can just switch to Dorian and use spirit mark to dispel them ;) It looks like a red button with sort of a skull on it when there is a Spirit up :) But yes, that was super annoying until figured that out ;)

About the last thing Hawke says before going to fight the Nightmare... it's super quiet and easy to miss. I'd actually suggest turning on subtitles for that part.

You can Take control over Dorian and select his "spirit mark" again, they will  disappear instantly, no need to wait :)

Thanks guys, that's a good thing to know. I admit I barely ever actually take control of party members, so I never knew.

I also do have subtitles on, so I suppose Hawke glitched out, but I'll headcanon she was just that much of an arse. It's fitting, anyway...  ;)

I've had the following running over in my head for some time now.   It owes more than a little to Valaria's speech in Conan the Barbarian but it sort of sums up the sentiments of my Lavellan towards Dorian when he suggests he might be leaving:

"I've never had so much as now.   All my life I've been alone.   Many times I've faced my death with no one to care.   I would look into the aravals and the tents in the coldest dark and would see others holding each other in the night.   I always passed by.   You and I, we have warmth.   That's hard to find in this world.   Please let someone else pass by in the night."

I know you're watching a vid :P, and not having your quizzy's do it.  I can't bring my quizzy's to ever ask the innappropriate questions of their companions (or Krem) but part of me is dying to see how cringe-worthy those moments are.  But I just can't bring myself to do it.  Like I can't really bring myself to execute any of the folks my quizzy judges.  I just can't do it!! >_<   Just on a lark, I wonder what it would be like to play a real jerk and have them ask every innappropriate question or say every rude remark but I know I'd stop after awhile lol. I've tried to make my Hawke's hardasses in the past and they just end up being teddy bears lol.

I've tried all three Hawke personalities and I've never got my male Hawke to say "Sorry, Anders"  and I've had people swear up and down it exists, yet I've played once with a FemHawke/Isabela import and got "Safe harbors, Isabela" immediately to my chagrin. So you're not the only one missing out, there must be so trigger or something that doesn't fire occasionally.

Huh, I wonder if it's a male vs female Hawke glitch? Anyone out there have a male Hawke say that last endearment? The only male Hawke I've played didn't romance anyone in DA2, so I didn't notice the lack.

Eh, I would have to create entirely new universes in the keep, since I had a bazillion male Hawkes that friendmanced Anders (and could never sacrifice any of those, since that would mean they'd leave him all alone... unacceptable) and only the one ladyhawke for Sebastian...

also my currently keep-uploaded Hawke is that one Hawke... a bloodmage who did the deed with everyone, and screwed almost everyone over... he's the only one ever who actually gave Fenris back to Danarius... what can I say, after ten playthroughs I needed variety... still friendmanced Anders though...

Hmm, the only male Hawke I had didn't romance anyone so all he said was "Why does it always have to be spiders" Before going to deal with the nightmare.

Yeah, I could never actually sacrifice Hawke with Anders (friendmance ftw) or Hawke period, I've just been doing it trying to get the Anders content.

so I'll just say take your 'you can be gay, just not too gay' homophobic nonsense and go.

You are absolutely correct, I came across wrong. Dorian is a great character as is. Its just the storyline with his father seems to be a slightly clumsy commentary on real life issues.

Maybe I'm not as discerning a consumer as some, but I was actually horrified when I realized what Dorian's father had tried to do to him.  (Probably because that is my response to so-called reparative therapy.)  If his father hadn't been so repentant, Matteo may have gone back to the Gull and Lantern and used his daggers to make some 'repairs' to Halward.  Though that may have put a damper on his blossoming relationship with Dorian.  :P

It's not supposed to be subtle. It's meant to be a brick to the face to make the player feel horrified on Dorian's behalf. It works on some players and not on others, just as the Mother Giselle The Dawn Will Come scene works on some players and not on others.

Also, his homosexuality isn't the sole issue here, it's a component of the "problem" (as Halward sees it). If Dorian had gone along with his father's wishes and gotten married to the right girl and had his gay sex on the side it wouldn't have been as much of an issue. But Dorian refused to do that because he didn't want to "live a lie," which is a big part of Dorian's character: being true to oneself.

David Gaider was clearly sending a message with this character. I don't think he initially sought out to do this, but the opportunity presented itself and he took it. But, so what? You either like the character or you don't, and that includes all facets of his personality and history. Is it really that bad that this character was used to make a point? IMO we still got a great character out of it, so the path that led here is irrelevant to me.

The problem I have with this quest is that it is also tied up with the act that as a noble, Dorian is SUPPOSEd to be beget a heir. That has always been an essential part of any medieval story yet I find this aspect underplayed (True, most fans don't care since we're modern day people but if the game is to be internally consistent, this aspect should've been emphasized much more than it was)

It can?! That would be hysterical! I am so sad this has never happened to me now :(

Pretty sure the concept of someone using blood magic to forcibly change someone else is horrific no matter how you slice it. I generally err on the side of forgiveness, but that's a huge thing. And it's not just because it was to change his sexuality; it'd be equally horrific if he had been trying to any aspect of Dorian's personality. I'm equally horrified at the Qun brainwasher guys too. To me it's all on the same level because the very idea of one person (or hell a group of people) deciding someone else must change to suit them is repugnant. Not that I have strong feelings on it or anything
