You guys were right. Dorian appears during the first part of Cass's Book quest. I must have forgotten because I only got that quest once. But I ended up triggering it tonight...I had no idea I even got along with Cass during this pt. lol!

A part of me wonders where the heck does Dorian come from in that scene. It's like he saw me talking to Cass and morphed from some dark corner nearby.
I knew he caught me flirting with Cass. I just know he's stalking me. ![]()

This was one of the reasons why at first I thought the scene was flirt-related, I mean, why was he even hanging around there if not to make sure to coqblock the Inquisitor should he try anything with Cass?
Also the way he derides her taste in literature while simultaneously subtly extolling his own qualities, and how he just 'casually' strolls by, barely looking at her but making sure the Inquisitor sees him in all his magnificence... Yes, I read much too much into this

I always wondered that too. I think he comes by way of the quartermaster's building? Maybe he had a special request, and when he saw the inquisitor approaching he hung back until he could make the perfect entrance. I admit, on a few of my games, I played that scene over again, just for Dorian.
I'm simultaneously playing another character, to finally do Cullen's romance. It's going really slow, because I can't stay way from my Dorian playthrough

For more Dorian goodness, I ran her through the mage quest line, and found this bit at the conclusion incredibly funny.
When Dorian shows up at the end, saying that he'll stay and join the inquisition all the girls turn to watch him leaning in the doorway. Josie's mouth is even a little open with a half-smile. Cullen is the only one looking away, like he's forcing himself not to stare. Either that, or he's noticing how the girls are staring. Not that I blame them.
I might have to put Dorian in black, and replay this scene. Just because.
Dorian, the lean:

And the reaction:

Any opinions on the best party members to take with a romanced Dorian?
I like to have Cole in my party with Dorian. The banters about Dorian's father and how he feels about that are touching, especially when you romance him, imo.

If you're talking about party banter, I loved Cass' and Cole's comments.
Vivienne also surprised me a lot and it was great!
Blackwall was funny.
Haven't tried out the others yet ![]()
Cole and Cass it is then. Thanks ![]()
I heard that if you take Vivianne around with Dorian, she'll become better friends with him. After that (supposedly) her answer when you ask her about Dorian changes. I haven't brought her around yet enough to test it out, but I read about it before beginning my Dorian playthrough.
I can't take Viv since I am a mage so i need a warrior and rogue. I'll keep that in mind though for next time.

I guess you could take her sometimes if you just explore the maps or you're doing some sidequests. I was a mage too in my first playthrough and took her with me and Dorian sometimes.

I'm a big fan of taking Vivienne with him. There's a lot of gold there. Also Sera. There's a particluar banter between Viv, Sera, and Dorian that has me rolling on the ground laughing every time ![]()

I tend to find most of Cole's banters to be hard to listen to. Many of them feel extremely personal and it makes me uncomfortable ><

Oh! that's probably what it was. We were trying to figure out what caused it a few days ago and I thought it might be due to approval because the game I got that change was the first game where she really liked me. But the fact her and Dorian were always in the group together probably had a lot more to do with it ![]()

Or was trying to convince Cole that burning Skyhold's supply of Plaidweave was a good idea.
Although I can't tell if Dorian's reaction to Swords & Shields is actual disdain or if he's trying to hide the fact that he likes it.
I was looking over my screenshots from that scene, and he says, "I couldn't finish the last one you lent me. I actually feel dumber for having tried."
The last one she lent him. As in, she'd lent him others before. So he couldn't have hated them all so much to read the earlier ones...

That is a hard one to say. My most effective team against dragons and other tough things are Cass, Dorian, and either Varric or Viv.
For pure entertainment value I usually drag along Iron Bull, Dorian and Viv. Bull is constantly picking at Dorian about Tevinter things and coy flirty comments. Iron Bull also seems pretty good at finding Dorian's buttons.
Iron Bull and Viv have a Dom thing going on where she orders and he obeys. Viv and Dorian spat like spoiled children, until someone comes against them both and they team up unexpectedly. But as I near the second half of the game I start mixing up the pairings to see what everyone else has to say.
Cole reveals things going on inside Dorian's mind. Varric and Dorian have wagering and business going on. Blackwall is not a fan. I don't have Sera. I stopped getting her after the first PT. But she has fans who can comment on her dynamic with Dorian.

I have a feeling that the first one was "The Tale of the Champion" ![]()

I'm pretty sure it'd s bit of both. Guilty pleasure type thing, and I'd guess the guilty part would be more on the line with he recognizes the writing isn't good but enjoys it anyway not the subject matter ![]()
Blackwall is not a fan.
Oh Blackwall! You must take Blackwall with Dorian some. They have a few interesting banters and there's one where Dorian will offer to draw him diagrams which I was really amused with ![]()

I love Dorian and Blackwall together. They start off snarky with one another, but eventually warm up and then become friends. Sera has some really funny banter with both of them. They were my three go-to's in my last playthrough, and it was a blast. I'm trying to mix it up more this time around, especially now that I have the cheat engine banter fix. I can finally hear all the banter!

I think this will be my headcanon from now on. ![]()
Dorian probably saw my IQ flirting and horsing around with Cass and decided to stand around near the Quatermaster's room to see what was going on because he'll never just talk to my IQ and just say he's jealous. He saw them smiling and having a little moment and he 'interrupts' them to go all "I'm smarter than her, ya know."
Dorian is such a nerd.

That's why my headcanon was that he was keeping an eye on me, to make sure i don't flirt with others again ![]()
And about the banters, i usually bring Blackwall and Sera with Dorian because they are really funny together, I'm always laughing with them, but i already used that combination in 2 PTs lol, so this time i will probably bring Cassandra and Cole.
I tend to find most of Cole's banters to be hard to listen to. Many of them feel extremely personal and it makes me uncomfortable ><
I understand how it can make you uncomfortable, the whole "I pick something hurtful out of your head and bring it to the table even without your consent" thing is a bit disturbing. Maybe because, as a player, we kinda feel like a "lurker"?
That being said, as someone who empathizes a lot with Dorian and shares a similar kind of story (well, we weren't nobles and my parents weren't mages but you get my point
), I found the whole conversation close to reality.
The line " You let it keep hurting, because you think hurting is who you are." is so true (to me or to my experience of it at least).
Also, I like that, at the end, Dorian is finally able to put his own words on what happens and is able to explain it to Cole.
Although I can't tell if Dorian's reaction to Swords & Shields is actual disdain or if he's trying to hide the fact that he likes it.
I don't known for Sword and Shields but I known that Dorian really likes to enrage Cass. When you pick the "let's spend time together" option, sometimes he says "We could find Cassandra and pretend we're talking about her. It would drive her mad" ![]()
I wanted to take a screenshot of my party in new equipment. (We are no longer pink!)
Dorian disapproved.
He is a rebel, he will not "hold position" just because I want it
. So I have a few screenshots of Cassandra, Solas, Inquisitor... and Dorian's behind. Hmm, I guess it is not bad
.
(I wonder if he did it to get that quest mark on his ...)

For me it has a lot to with I have very strong feelings about what are private things and what are public things, and pretty much everything Cole talks about falls into the private category. So it makes me feel uncomfortable because I know how much someone bringing that sort of stuff in front of other people would bother me. It's a personal failing of mine ![]()
That's one of my favorite "let's spend time together" lines. It was particularly funny because at first I wasn't sure if that Inquisitor was going to be for Dorian or Cass so I had flirted a lot with her as well. So it had a bit of an extra level of cattyness to it ![]()

Oh I have taken him many times and have heard most if not all their banter. I meant "not a fan" as in Blackwall is not a fan of Dorian. Their bickering is priceless and Blackwall has no issue bluntly stating what he thinks of this wet behind the ears, Tevinter mage.
Dorian has offered to draw diagrams for more than just Blackwall. He likes his diagrams. I think he offered to draw one for Cullen too.
