Am I obsessed, or did I overhear the Orlesians in my throne room gossiping about Dorian and the Inquisitor? I can't recall the exact words, but once I heard them mentioning a (not so) surprising pairing, and talking about the 'allure of command and noble names', or sth to that effect, and later an Orlesian man wondered whether 'an exchange has occurred' - to a scandalized reaction from his female companion, after which he clarified he only meant 'an exchange of gifts or betrothals'. :P

So, is this relationship-related banter? Or am I once more reading far too much into random dialog...

Nah they definitely gossip about your relationship status. Once had a Quisie that went too long without one evidently and the guy said something along the lines of 'committed bachelor I hear' and the lady was like 'shame' and then he said something else that I can't remember and she said 'SHAME!'

I think they might actually be some of my favourite npcs.

It is. Before you get involved a male IQ gets "Confirmed bachelor, I hear," and a fem gets "Committed to independence, I hear." There is a whole series between these two about the Inquisitor and their LI. Marriage is referenced at one point and if it is a m/m couple they reference hats over gowns.

It's pretty fun and I do enjoy the banter. The main reason I like it is because they aren't being nasty about it, just gossiping for their own entertainment.

The townsfolk in Val Royeux actually mention Dorian as well. Which is most likely where Mother Giselle's rumors come from.

I'm guessing this is the biggest reason why doesn't have many followers. If it was the real dude, he would probably get more.

Pretty much that. I follow Greg Ellis because it is him and he's usually interesting/funny/thoughtful. Following account which aren't run by the actual people feels very meh to me :/

I almost always go the templar route, but there are two things that still make the mage path worthwhile to me:

1). The "In Hushed Whispers"  musical theme.

2).  Dorian's  "Don't worry, I'll protect you,"  line.

All of those things for me too :D

Hehe, yea I love their banter about the romances :) Quite entertaining, although I think sadly what they say is mostly true no matter who you are with; though I am fairly certain they never said anything when I did my Solasmance.

Really? I've never heard that at all :(

I got the "Confirmed bachelor, I hear" line when I got the Dorian romance bug and omg I flipped out. I yelled at the game "I DON'T WANT TO BE, I WANNA ROMANCE DORIAN!!!!!" lol.

I didn't get this one yet, the peeps in Val Royeaux only talked about Sera so far... but it was kinda amusing, cause the Inquisitor actually reacted to that one.

I'm also pretty sure patrons at Herald's Rest talked about Blackwall after the reveal... was it him they detested 'walking free after all he's done', or something like that?

Anyway, bits like this make me happy, they really help with immersion.

On an unrelated note, I'm slowly warming up to a potential Qunari playthrough, so I'd like to know - on a scale of 1 to swooping, how bad are the cutscenes, really? Will the animations make me cringe? Will Dorian get a horn in the eye, the way my Inquisitor ate his mace while swearing Ser Michel into the Inquisition without sheathing his weapon first?

You do tend to bond most closely with people you have experienced high stress situations with, and the Inquisitor and Dorian is pretty much the only part of the game where it's just you and a companion saving the whole damn world. Sort of romantic in a weird way.

This is an excellent way of putting it.  Even without romance the Inquisitor and Dorian seem to be natural kindred spirits the way they are written.  But not sure how much of that is merely player perspective.  The other companions are there helping to their utmost and are your close friends, but Dorian is the only one who feels like he is 100% yours.  I feel empowered with Dorian at my side, which makes it all the more bitter sweet when I choose to let him go to pursue his destiny.

Yes, definitely.  Mother Giselle said as much that rumors are rolling around skyhold.  I always stop to listen when NPCs are talking.  They give good insight into things going on around Skyhold.  Another trick that gets overlooked is to always stop and listen to the messenger(s) who randomly stop to talk to the Companions or the Advisors.  For long time I would breeze in, start chatting and miss the dialogue which adds another dimension to the the story.

Well here is something I've only recently noticed. When going around in dungeons and whatnot there might be lines related to magic, such as in The Lost Temple of Dirthamen or Solasan in Forbidden Oasis. Many times if you have both Dorian and Solas in the party the game will give preference to Solas, so you don't get to hear Dorian's take on things.

There isn't a huge variation in most of the lines since the NPC is basically just imparting helpful information to get you through the dungeon, but I would much rather hear Dorian than Solas, generally speaking. In fact, for most of this pt I haven't used him at all lol...

Nice touch with the South Asian elements in Dorian's outfit :)  True.  Would love to make a Trevelyan like that easily in CC.  I like mine but I had to go in later and manually tinker with his file to get proper black hair with more earth tones rather than screaming neon blue.

P.S.  I know it's something men don't do very often or not without good reason but I always thought Dorian would look nice with a jeweled, decorative Bindi on special occasions.

Dorian looks so good in white, with his coloring... I just really love his design, so unconventional, yet so attractive. (I used to be one of the ppl who went 'what is that thing on his face, ugh' when the first images were released, and only after I got to know him I realized what a fool I'd been - every strand of his hair is perfect).

I also seem to have a thing for dark skintones. Possibly because I'm white as a sheet myself... -_-

You could look up the videos if you're interested. I only just started my Dorian/Adaar PT so I couldn't tell you.

With a qunari, the kiss scenes are ok
(and you'll will have no problems with the horns - but I was wondering the same thing and I didn't pick the recurved horns for this reason in my first pt    )

The sex scene is more awkward. When they talk on the bed, Dorian does weird things with his eyes because he doesn't move his whole head (only his eyes) to look at your inquisitor.
(Sorry, I don't known how to explain that better with my poor english)

Honestly cinematics was something I just had to let go when I did my qunari playthrough (which is still technically unfinished but we're not talking about that). The kiss scenes are weird. Your qunari does this thing where he places his hands on Dorian's shoulders and hunches down to kiss him. Like that infirm aunt that always smelled like boiled cabbage. OR. What I've also seen is that it's kinda taken over the Inquisitor's shoulder and you see him ducking his head and you hear kissey noises but you can tell that from that angle they're mouth aren't really aligning and the Qunari is in all likelihood making out with the top of Dorian's nose. Probably a qunari mating ritual he learned from his parents.

Cultural differences man.

Though naked qunari chest is something to behold. I encourage everyone to experience naked qunari chest at least once before they shed their mortal coil.

Lol, I've been debating about doing a Qunari Inquisitor for my next romance with Dorian but yea... I was really annoyed with how my Inquistor and Dorian's relative heights kept changing during scenes when they were both human. I can only imagine it would be way worse with a Qunari. Like how would the scene where Dorian walks behind the Inquisitor and whispers in his ear even work? It's a dilemma :(

Thank you for the input, I get what you mean. And I, too, picked the back-slanting horns, just in case...  -_-

I guess I'll just have to deal with the bedroom scene... To be honest, it's always somewhat awkward, the BioWare giraffe-neck happens to me no matter what race I play. The thing I'm most worried about are the camera angles - they're odd at best with a human IQ, I kinda expect to be looking intently at the ceiling with a Qunari.

Still, I hope my immersion will prevail.

Beautiful picture. It's too bad they didn't let Dorian wear rings   he has rings on all fingers in his tarot card, it's weird to see him in game without them.

I shall do it for the sake of the Qunari chest. (the non-Iron Bull pillowy Qunari chest, that is).

I expect he sold them, along with his amulet.

My Inquisitor would so buy him a chest-full of jewelry, though...

Cole as usual totes around the Stool of Helpfulness.

This handy hunk of wood makes sure everyone is the right size for avoiding awkward scenes.

Lol, I don't think that would be enough ;)

At any rate I think I've decided my next character for Dorian will be an Elf Templar and my Qunari Mage will be for Sera instead.

This is probably what happens when Dorian decides to use Spirit Mark in the least appropriate moments:
