He's not Dorian, he's DHMG.
The best solution to this dilemma is to choose... both
I can just imagine the Keep customization options now:
-
Training YardOutdoor harem-
GreenhouseSlightly warmer harem-
HaremRegular harem
I am sadly out of likes.
Also, fixed that for you.
I like the way you think.

He's not Dorian, he's DHMG.
Shush.
(SPOILER) I think he is Rhys (Wynne's son). If you look a little to the left of the group shot you will see a raggedy haired blonde rogue. If this rogue is Cole it would make sense that Rhys would be in the party. Because Rhys is the only one who can see and remember Cole making him the one connection to him till we enter the fade. The character looks to be the right age to be Rhy, and other than the fact he is not slightly balding he fits the description. Plus, he is a high ranking senior enchanter in two fraternities in the Circle, and a medium. If the the inquisition has a fade expert why should they not have one for spirits.
Just to continue down the path of what I was trying to say about my impression of "Dorian Pavus", there is this scene from Errol Flynn's Robin Hood that I feel fit the image. Some people have mentioned swashbuckler, and It's an image I like on a mage, because we rarely see them in the middle of the fray. They are usually in the back as supporters, while a swashbuckling sort of a mage would jump into the middle shouting "en garde", sort of... Which is rather unexpected, which is also something he enjoys.

Some Magister "Why, you speak treason!"
Dorian "Fluently"
Something I'd imagine him saying, along the road to becoming an outcast.
But I see the flamboyant-like version is popular. Personally, I saw him just as likely to mock Vivienne's outfit as Solas, not to be mean, but all in fun and games.
Looking forward to seeing the new characters and their personality, Sera and IB have sort of been given insight into already. I haven't read the book with Cole, but his personality is also out there. So the Warden, DHMG/Dorian? and Solas.
Guh, I hope FF comes soon this month.

The character model doesn't really fit with Rhys' description at all, though, save the dark hair. Isn't he older, taller, and beardy? Plus, he'd probably only join as a package deal with Evangeline.
And, ultimately, DHMG being Dorian just makes sense. I mean, none of us want to actually confirm it, confirm it, but if Dorian was dropped, he would be the only character mentioned in the leak who didn't make it through (never mind that the concept art shown for his character is pretty similar to what we see in the trailer).

If you keep talking like this I am literally going to die of anticipation. LITERALLY. "Fluently." Ugh, you potentially sassy, sexy, swashbuckling bastard.

I just like to keep my options open. I know so far the leak has been true to this point. I just find it hard to think that two magisters will be part of the main party. The Circle is in disorder so it would make sense that the two side of it would be shown. I know Dorian has cast off the magister ways making him an apostate. But still, the Circle and the Chantery is one to the main plot points. So I guess it will be interesting to see the view point of mages under the Black Divine vs. the White.

If you look carefully there are Tevinter dragon or snake symbols on DHMG's robes, going down to his legs.
Also, what's this about two magisters? There's only one presumed to be in the party, and that's DHMG.
That's very likelyI doubt we'd get two mages with a Circle background, even less chances with both of them being from Orlais. It's far more likely we'll get one Circle mage, one magister and one apostate.
Plus, I have a theory of Cole joining the Inquisition because of Rhys' death in the Breach event.
If Cullen sings, maybe DHMG will too?! ![]()
I'd love to hear him sing
(This is the Tevinter heraldry that some people have seen on DHMG's robes, btw)
There's something that could be a dragon's head on his left shoulder, and that snake looks like it's on his leg in the most recent screenshot.

We've seen this symbol in other locations, which seems to suggest that we'll run into Tevinter factions or groups even if we don't go there.

The Venatori also use it as their banner (see the clothing on the far left soldier)

Well, I think Dorian would be a HUGE opportunity lost if he is not implemented. We got Viviene as the Circle archetype, Solas as an apostate, and if you play Elf mage, you got the Keeper/First to the Keeper concept. The only thing left is to explore those dreadful, mysterious magisters as a concept. Having a magister who doesn't want to spread Tevinter's influence or murder half your party for a blood ritual is good enough. Seriously, if the concept is in the game, we will have the full range of mage diversity.
I worry that Dorian might just be another way to tell us how awful Tevinter is.

If you're looking for someone else like that then the answer is clearly Cary Elwes:
He also voiced the "protagonist" in "The Bard's Tale"

Surely it's more of a chance to show us that not every person in Tevinter is a caricature of evil and corruption?
If he's fighting to change it, after all, it must be worth saving. Maevaris already showed that magisters aren't necessarily as bad as their reputation in the rest of Thedas, and World of Thedas pointed out that everything we hear about Tevinter beyond its borders is basically Chantry propaganda. Some of it is probably true, but a nation made of humans must have some decency, somewhere.
it would almost be a throwback to awakening anders when we still loved him
I'm probably being overly cynical, but my thinking is basically
DA:O: People talk about how free mages can't be all that bad because Tevinter functions. This annoys the devs so...
DA2: We get Fenris to tell us how bad Tevinter is. People say he's biased and this annoys the devs so...
DAI: We get a magister who'll decry the evil of the magisters, thus discounting accusations of bias
I think everyone understand Tevinter has problems. Pretty much everywhere in Thedas has problems. Who has the worst problems is up to personal opinion.

No, no, I think you got it about right
Well, even in the World of Thedas, Tevinter is still depicted in a negative light. The perspective might be written from a Chantry point of view, but still, you get a sample of two letters. One from an elven slave whose daughter has gone missing and he is wondering if she ended up being used in a blood ritual. And the second one, the mistress of the house and owner of the slave, who indeed sacrificed the poor elven maid. Ok, so this info is, supposedly, first hand, personal, in the form of letters. Yeah, so far I can't think how Bioware has done anything to make Tevinter look more realistic. It's all blood and magic and power struggles. Hopefully we will see a more multi-faceted and, well, normal Tevinter, like any other human society. As it is now, they are so evil we can easily just call them the dark elves of Thedas, maybe the Druchii of Thedas.

I would think that if DA:I were going to introduce a "good" Tevinter character, it would be for a whole bunch of other narrative reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with fans ranting on the BSN. That's making a bold claim about how companions are decided, if the suggestion is that DHMG is basically a reaction to stuff that fans have said.
(And to be honest, why on earth would the devs care if people here see them as biased? People here are insane, about everything.)
I think they probably just added a Tevinter character to assist the Venatori plot they're doing, whatever it is. It appeared in photos from some time ago that they were adding quite a few Tevinter based enemies. I think they basically just pick reps for all the factions we'll be dealing with to act as a sounding board for perspective and also for exposition purposes.
