Is it just me or Dorian and Solas sound pretty similar?

Honestly, when there's party banter between the two I can't tell them apart. The only thing that helps is that Dorian is the sassier one.

Well, Gaider left Dragon Age, which is not good news regarding Dorian's role in any DLC or possibly DA4.

:(

Well that's really disappointing -.-  .David Gaider wrote my favourite characters and romances.... Alistair, Zevran, Fenris, Dorian....

Patrick Weekes, however... i disliked iron bull and i didn't care much about Krem. Solas and Cole are fine but nothing like my favourites....

I imagine other person could write Dorian if he appears in dlc/da4 (although i'm not sure it would be as good as Gaider). But if next game lacks Dorian or good memorable romances, that's so disappointing. I guess i can't have high expectations for DA4 now.  <_<

Thanks! I admit that I'm really attached to that one. I sadly don't know how to recreate him (didn't bother to sceenshot the sliders :( ) so whenever I want to replay I just go back to early saves.

....This reminds me that I could have screenshot the sliders in the Black emporium when I was beta testing. -_-  Oh well. lol!!

On the first day of release I had no idea there was no way to reuse your IQ so I didn't record the sliders either.  I did the early save rehash for a while but I wanted to play other classes without giving up the face I'd grown attached to.  So what I did was use my game recorder to record movies of every angle of my IQ's head from as straight and level as possible.  But not so close that he was distorted by the camera FOV.

Then I went trough the movie and pulled out the best screen shots from side, front, and quarter view.  Put them up on one screen and set about recreating him from the pictures.  It was a ton of back and forth in CC and took over an hour of fiddling but I did get him recreated.  I think eyes were the hardest because 3 of the selection choices are so very similar.  Then I made a record of all the sliders.

Might have to do a rinse and repeat like I did.  After the first success I went back and made two more of him for the other two classes while it was fresh on my mind.

I'm going to miss him. He wrote almost all of my favorite characters in DA. I look forward to seeing what he does next, and wish him well for the future. :crying:

Likely so. Particularly as most Companions from previous games are never seen again or only put in brief appearances at best.  I'm still positive most of the DAI DLC content has been written and recorded before the VAs left.  The writing team would have wrapped on the base game months before it released.

Not sure if any of you read The Masked Empire, but Patrick Weekes has also written two books that I absolutely love and wish could be made into movies (or, as one person suggested games): The Palace Job and The Prophecy Con.  If you like capers, and I'm pretty sure you love fantasy, you might want to check them out.  Funny, inventive, and action-packed.

While I'm sorry to see Mr. Gaider leave the DA universe, I wish him well in his future endeavors---what am I saying, I can't wait to see what comes next! That said, I'm sure that everyone at BW feels that the franchise is safe in Mr. Weekes' hands as this isn't a decision that is made lightly.

Now that is dedication!  :D  I tried matching my IQ with the pictures I have of him but there is always something off so I gave up. I'll basically just wait until the Emporium comes out to take pics of the sliders and recreate my soon to be Templar there. I want Dorian to tell my guy he smells good.

Haha.  Maybe so.  I wasn't waiting for the Emporium because I reeeeaaally like my Inquisitor.

I'm back at the part where Dorian is tossing books over his shoulder and having a snit.  There really seems no limit to what he will say when he's upset.  A nasty, below the belt kind of person to have an argument with.

Definitely not my favorite thing in a person, but I suppose he does have to have some flaws. At least he's quick to apologize about it.

"We care deeply about everything" and Tevinter bring inspired by Rome (plus the whole stereotypical "hot-blooded Italian" trope) kind of explains it.

Well, Dorian rode Horsie-Poo out to Hinterlands and still no mosaic piece to be seen.  /sadface

But, he does think he looks rather more stunning than ever now that Mesh and Shader Quality are two different things.  Says the red of his brocade quilted armor has never been more incandescent.  On the downside, the South is still cold and Horsie-Poo still smells like wet hamsters.

I'd go for a Tevinter Giant Hamster mount. Especially if it comes with a magical hamster ball of doom.

And everyone says Tevinter isn't metal.  Lets just see what is still standing in the wake of the Hamster Ball of Doom.

Can't wait to get to Tevinter.  I bet those are right next to the flying cows.  I'll take a flying cow mount too.

I can't see how Gaider leaving is good news at all. Not for Dorian's character nor the DA universe as a whole, but we'll see...

I was hoping for a lot of exciting dlc with Dorian, and maybe him coming back for the next DA game...
I don't know, but I'm just a bit sceptical about a Dorian not written by Gaider if that were ever to happen. I'm imagining that it just wouldn't be the same.
I mean, there must be a reason his characters always turned out to be my favorites.

Yeah, I'd feel better if David was at least sticking around to write Cassandra and Dorian in any hypothetical future DLC. Hopefully they'll just have minimal roles that won't be affected by having a different author (this is likely if they're sticking to the formula of Legacy and MotA).

But this news still means that we'll never see Shale again, and I'll never be right with that. Plus, the magic of Flemeth is now lost (Kate only makes up half of it; the rest came from David).

David's characters have always been among my favorites (all the way back to Deekin), and the only DA romances I've ever really liked have all been David's. I'm sure there will be plenty of interesting things in the future games (and I'm still excited to see what's next), but I find it to be a sad day.

He wrote all my favorite characters, so I'm very sad to see him go. He writes the best sarcastic, sassy characters. I'll miss the humor and wit he brought to the game. I'm afraid it'll be like Anders Awakening vs Anders DA2. I love Anders and I haven't been able to seriously finish a game without Anders as my LI (I've played through all the others, too, just didn't save them!). But, I will always look  back on Awakening Anders and miss him and what could've been. I'm sure I'll still enjoy whatever the Dragon Age franchise brings in the future, but like my fast talking Awakening Anders, I'll miss him. I'll look forward to whatever new project he's working on.

Such a loss. Whatever and how bright the new IP is, I only want him to continue sticking with Dragon Age.

I like Weekes. He writes the most compelling/gut punchy missions and his dialogue is beautiful. He gets somewhat less stars on characterization but the team has people who more than make up for that. Not sure how I feel about Dorian being potentially shuffled to another writer for DLC content though. I guess we'll see.

Yeah, after looking at the characters he wrote and my personal feelings about them, I'm feeling less than confident about him taking over.

Iron Bull - Dislike

Solas - Hate

Cole - Like well enough, but not crazy about.

Krem - Appreciate the concept, not wowed by the execution.

Jack - Hate

Tali - Dislike

Mordin - Like well enough, but not crazy about, especially compared to the general consensus about him.

Kasumi - Worships the ground her poorly utilized feet walk on.

I'm just getting increasingly more bummed.  :(

But I guess I have a definite reason to check out the new IP, but let's be honest, I would buy a pet rock if it had a Bioware logo on it at this point.

I just hope D. Gaider's departure won't negatively affect the direction towards inclusivity the DA games have taken. He seemed to be the one most vocal about these issues, which of course resulted in him drawing the ire of 'phobic players, and I, for one, liked that he was unapologetic about his vision, and no-nonsense in his responses to criticism.

I don't really know enough about Weeks' work to feel either optimistic or pessimistic about his future contributions - how do you people familiar with his stuff think he will tackle these subjects?

And of course, I fear this means little Dorian content in dlc, potentially, so that's a real bummer.

Mass Effect 3 took the inclusiveness by the horns as well, and that was without him, so I doubt it will be something scrapped just because he's not on this specific IP anymore. It's sort of become a "Bioware" thing at this point, and it's managed help them reach demographics that most games never do, so I doubt they'll just drop it now that he's not around anymore.

Yeeeeeeeah... I don't want to go off topic for the thread so let me just say I don't have a very high opinion of the ME 'inclusivity'... <_< DA is miles above it at being truly inclusive, afaic.

I don't disagree. I had a lot of issues with how both Steve and Samantha were written and incorporated, but at least they made an attempt when it would have been easy enough to just not include them at all. (Especially since before that point ME was completely empty of queer content beyond Liara.)
