Hehe, I'm the exact opposite.  I find I can't do fem plays.  I couldn't do femShep even with all the "FemShep or you're wrong" rage from all corners of the internet.  I haven't been successful with femQuist either.  I do try but I almost always delete them before I reach the first platform because I utterly fail to identify with them. That said:

1st PT - Dorian

2nd PT - Target anything but Dorian.  Result:  Dorian

3rd PT - FemQuist - Target Cullen.  Deleted.  Restarted male elf.  Result:  Dorian.

4th PT - Going to try a Qunari female this time and hope.  Target Cullen.  At least Dorian will tell me no.

See, now this is the kind of romance I was looking for. One that I'd want to just keep coming back to, time after time. Zevran and Fenris were those types of romances for me, in the previous two DA games. Nathaniel probably would have been, had he been available. Because gawd, that lovely voice. And that angst.   Well, and lots of other assumptions.

It's a lot of the reason I waited to even try Dorian's romance out; because I suspected it would probably ruin me on all others. :D

At least I got to try a few beforehand. The others might be S.O.L. after this.

Unfortunately, Cullen is going to tell her no too...

And I like playing female Inquisitors as long as they're lesbians (I actually almost like FemHawke/Isabela more than ManHawke/Anders). Something about playing as a woman who's romancing a man just weirds me out. I had to force myself to finish the one I had that romanced Cullen. Same thing when I romanced Garrus in Mass Effect.

My play through history for DAI is:

1. Male human rogue with Dorian

2. Male human mage with Dorian (abandoned when I switched from PS3 to PS4)

3. Male human rogue with Dorian

4. Female human warrior with Josephine

5. Female human mage with Cullen

6. Male dwarf rogue with Dorian

7. Male qunari rogue with Cassandra (work in progress: Arbor Wilds)

8. Female human rogue with Sera (work in progress: Hinterlands)

9. Female elf mage with Solas (work in progress: Hinterlands)

At whatever point I get through those (I'm starting to get burned out at this point), I'll probably go back to Dorian again unless I decide to try Blackwall (I doubt I'll ever romance Iron Bull). He's definitely someone I can romance over and over again.

If you can get Cullen to commit to a Qunari, you have mad skills.

I actually figured this was the case with Cullen and I'm already open to alternatives but it will still be fun to corner him and intimidate him with the flirts.  I'm bigger than you are pretty boy.  I own you.  I'll be hearing from the Inquisition HR department soon.

I pretty much always play as a female first - being a woman and all, I love being able to play one in games.  In DAO I had to force myself to play as a male just so I would stop romancing Alistair, and fell hard for Zev - never romanced Morrigan or Leiliana (well, not on purpose).  DA2 was all about Fenris, though I did romance Izzy and Anders - never got around to sweet Merrill, she just had too much of that little sister vibe for me.

That said, as soon as I saw Dorian, I knew I would play as a nug if that's what it took to romance him.  (Fortunately, that wasn't required.)  So, for the first time ever, my first - and canon - playthrough was as a male...and now I made myself play as a female for my second just to force myself *not* to romance Dorian again.  Cullen is a wonderful man, but he's no Dorian...  I almost wish Dorian were race-gated just so I wouldn't be tempted to romance him next time when I go to romance Cassandra...I'm not sure my willpower is strong enough to resist that incredible man from Tevinter *sighs*

This was a lucky break for you.  Dorian is slightly freaked out by Nug feet.

Ooh.  Just remembered something relating back on the "Mother" topic.  We'd questioned at one point whether his Mother might have been where Dorian first picked up his love for colorful, sarcastic turns of phrase.  I forgot this was one of my primary reasons for thinking, Yes.

I also prefer to play as female, my DAO and DA2 canons are female rogues and i never felt like playing a male. I thought it would be same in DAI when i made my female, but Dorian.... I'm not flirty in RL either but i was flirting with Dorian all the time just for fun, he was so close friend to my female that the playful flirting felt natural and it's nice it never felt like cheating on Cullen lol.

But after i made my male elf and experienced Dorian romance in all its glory, i'm sure my DAI canon will be a male. I'm only not sure which male is going to be, because i already made 2 elves and 2 humans to romance Dorian in my next PTs and i still have more in mind lol, but i guess my canon will probably be one of the male elves. As much as i love the female friendship with Dorian and how he is happy to have her as close friend, i guess Dorian needs to be in romance with the inquisitor to be 100% happy and that's one of the reasons i want a male canon for DAI.

I... have strange issues when it comes to gameplay genders...

DA - basically only male PCs with male love interests, with emphasis on Anders and Dorian

ME - mostly femsheps romancing Garrus, but I can't say I was too involved

TES Oblivion - only male PCs

TES Skyrim - only female PCs

Fallout - male PCs

Dark Souls - male PCs

I can't say I understand it myself, but overall - male!Hawke/Anders and male!Inquisitor!Dorian are the playthroughs I felt immersed in the most.

I have a thing about playing elves and romancing elves.   Zevran and Fenris were always my most romanced characters previously whether by male or female.   So 1st playthrough naturally I went for playing a female elf and romancing Solas.   However, along the way I met Dorian and almost abandoned my girl so I could romance him but I was still enjoying Solas at that point and Dorian was sweet as my gay BFF so I kept going.     Not a happy bunny by the end with Solas but at least Dorian was still loyal.    Felt very flat and depressed at the party that was meant to be a celebration.   Retired to my quarters alone.

2nd and 3rd run have been with my male hunter Lavellan, first siding with Templars, then conscripting mages.    People here will know that romancing Dorian totally made up for Solas and I get a catch in my throat and tears in eyes every time I replay the end: he just makes me so happy.

Now on 4th run with male mage Lavellan romancing Cassandra but still flirted like crazy with Dorian.   Interesting dynamic going on between the three of them.  Dorian has been really supportive of my efforts at wooing Cass and doesn't hold any bad feelings about not taking things further with him.   Finds Cassandra blushing on leaving me really amusing.    I do get the feeling he's stalking us though.   Reckon that's the secret of how he keeps so fit; he's running around the castle following my guy's movements and then has to sprint back to the library so it seems like he's been there all the time.     Anyway the three of us are having such fun.    Dorian definitely makes the game for me.

Hey Dorian thread,

I should really start posting more than I lurk in this thread.

I've been thinking about that too. Take this scene for example:

[NSFW]

Spoiler

Like why did they even bother animating this when we can't see it anyway? Not that I'm complaining mind you. Maybe the developers knew flycam would be a thing and left it in as a nice surprise?

Hawt damn, why is this not a thing without the aid of flycam?

and why can everyone else's Inquisitor pull off that mullet? I forever regret picking it for mine, but I wasn't about to redo him for the sake of a haircut.

Hm... this makes me wonder how many of us have Dorian as our second romance of DAI.

I had him as my planned second romance for months in advance, not just because I usually always roll as a female the first time. But because my second playthrough is usually my better one.

Of course I fell in love so hard during that second run that I gave up on my third Cullenmancing playthrough to start up a new Dorian romance with an elf (I rolled as a human to romance him the first time, but I'm not a great fan of playing human quizzies) and that makes playthrough number 4 my absolute favourite..

..But the Keep hates it :( for some reason my male Lavellan is the only Inquisitor to not show up in my Heroes list (even all the ones I've deleted are there) and despite completing his romance twice, I cannot pick Dorian as a romance option in it either. Woe. I'll probably have to wait until it's all ironed out and then load up my game,. run around and then save them to see if the Keep takes note.

and lastly, I was just catching up on Masterchef (UK) and I feel a inclined to support this guy. I cannot possibly think why that would be..

Spoiler

;)

I always play as a female character first, if the game allows it. Actually, if the game allows it, then for the most part I never end up making it through the game with a male PC. I played DAO through to the end I don't know how many times, but my male character never made it out of Ostagar. Never even bothered to try a male shep, because I was soo crazy for fem!shep. The only games I've finished as a male character, when there was a choice, are DA2 (once w/Anders) and DA:I, because Dorian.   If I do play as a male, it's usually to romance a favorite guy. I can never get invested enough in playing a male PC who romances a female character. If I'm going to romance another female character, I want it to be with my fem!pc.

I purposely kept myself unspoilered for Inquisition, I started it up hardly knowing anything about it. My characters are usually flirty (I have trouble passing by those heart dialogues!), so I was pretty much flirting with everyone to see what clicked. I knew as soon as I finished Dorian's mission, that I was going to have to create a wonderful character to romance him with! Now I have two canon characters.  I still love my first assassin rogue, and imagine she and Dorian have a wonderfully wicked time together. They completely bonded going through time and I felt like he was the best friend to her, sort of like Varric was for my Hawke. My two favorite things to do in Skyhold was to run over and get a kiss from my LI, and then run over to Dorian and hear whatever comments he came up with for the hello and goodbye. With my Dorian romance, I just get to do both of those things with the same person :D

Yeah, I've seen a lot of great shots taken with flycam. It's so interesting to see a scene from different perspectives, you always notice something new. I wish I could use it, but alas, I'm on the PS4  :? (and that was danaduchy's IQ btw!)

I'm in a worse predicament.  I'm on an xbox 360 lol.  Thus I live vicariously through everyone else's flycams.

Hm... this makes me wonder how many of us have Dorian as our second romance of DAI.

My canon plays are usually straight fem mages. Knowing this I had planned to romance Cullen before even playing the game, which I did do. Then I met Dorian. I'm not a very flirty person IRL and that tends to be reflected in my characters, so my gal's friendship with him was more of a serious one on that first play. But I knew that I just had to make a guy (warrior this time) to romance him, and now this character is my canon for DAI. It's a pretty big departure for me and kind of ruins my "Heroines of Thedas" thing I had going on, but oh well. I actually like this character a lot more, and Dorian is more of a bonus.

Well, I had planned him to be my 2nd romance.  I played a female romancing Blackwall first time through.  2nd playthrough though, when I was all ready for the Dorian romance and had already even had the first significant bout of flirting, his romance just wouldn't trigger :(.  I was so crestfallen.  So my Quizzy romanced IB.  I enjoyed that romance mainly because my quizzy cracked me up and was especially cute during that scene where IB gets him drunk, and the relationship did become deeper and less just about the sex, but I longed for a romance that was a little less for comedic effect and more true romance.  So 3rd time's a charm. :D  And I plan for my 4th playthrough to be Dorian again, but this time with a Trevelyan.

I always play male characters, females are too... too female  . I'm female in real life and it is enough :) . I romanced Zevran in DA:O, Anders in DA2 (and I was happy with him) and now Dorian. I usually play the game several times, but I do not romance different characters. Ok, I romanced Fenris with a mage in DA2, but I do not count it, because it is 15:1 for Anders   (I did not play the whole game 16 times, i swear. I just liked the combat :) .)

Dorian is my favorite. It was love at first sight . My computer is below minimal requrements for DAI, but I still bought it, I did not have a choice :D . I had to try.

Dorian is actually my... fourth or fifth, I guess? I've already tried out / completed the Blackwall, Solas, and Cullen romances (all female Inquisitors).

I started an Iron Bull one recently, with my female Cadash, and just...stopped. I wasn't bored or anything, but something nagged at me to try out the male Adaar that I'd made a while back, but never got past level four with. I loaded him up, and it clicked.

I'd wanted to try out the Dorian romance sooner, but in a way, I was kinda saving what was going to be in my mind, "the best" for last. :) I haven't tried out any of the girls yet, but eh, I'm not that worried about it.

I normally don't play a male character. In fact, I normally end up abandoning them. This time, I think I will, for the first time, ever, just so I can see how everything shakes out with this gloriously squee-worthy Altus. <3

Sounds like me. I'm on my 4th game and Dorian got bumped up in order for this playthrough. First 3 games were female quizzies for Solas, Cullen, and Blackwall. My 2d and 3d ones totally bonded with Dorian so I decided it was time to roll a male pc for his romance. Haven't been disappointed at all (well, other than male Lavellan being rather scrawny. <_<)  The only problem has been my own impatience. Once I got to Skyhold I basically did two things: talk to Dorian and do Dorian's personal quest. Rinse and repeat until romance scene triggers.  I  love all his little remarks and whatnot every time you go talk to him. "Just talk? Such a pity."

I think he might be my favorite companion in the game, regardless of romance status.

First off, that comic is adorable.  I love how Dorian seems to take command of the library at all times <3

And 2ndly, we see to have the same romance track record for preference.  Plan to romance Zevran - still need to play DAO and will do that soon.  Anders was my favorite romance in DA2 and I want to go back and romance him with a mage.  And now there's Dorian.  :D  This one will be tough to walk away from; I can tell already.

This right here.  I know people like their curves and delicate features and mods that give cascades of hair but it discourages any chance at suspension of disbelief for me.  I can't watch that aggressive hip swing from behind in full armor and believe it.  For me a woman who swings a sword and still falls to the feminine side is someone like Samantha Swords (several times broad sword/long sword champion).  The rest I expect muscles and a more sturdy walk cycle in order for me to get immersed in the character.

Still, at the end of the day I can't romance Dorian with a female character hehe.

I love female characters, hip swing and all! :P As for looks, I think it's easy enough to create a more realistic looking character, and since it's a single player, you don't have to look at all the over-the-top other characters like you do in an MMO. Though I wish they'd given us a choice between more feminine animations and more masculine animations. I don't mind either, but what throws me off is how they run with a hip swing, but sit with their legs as wide as blazes. The dichotomy gets to me.

I usually play rogues and mages (rogues are my favorite), so I have no problem immersing myself in a feminine character. Though I do like playing as a warrior qunari lady, too! If there was such a thing as body sliders, I'd give my characters that swing a sword broader shoulders and more muscled arms, one of the reasons Adaar works so well for me there.

I guess I've played so many games where there's no choice but to run around as a guy, I'm super happy with the choices. Though for Dorian, I'm even considering making another guy when I'm done, just to play it all over again. The things that man can get me to do! (plus, I do admit, I'm crazy over my own guy character, and his screenshot folder with Dorian might be 3x the size of any of my other characters  )

I'm a bit like others in that I prefer playing a male.  I haven't been gaming long, so I haven't had to endure years of nothing but male protagonists - if I had, then I might feel differently.  But for me, it's just fun to immerse myself in writing/playing as a guy.  I also tend to write/play  male characters I would personally crush on.  Maybe it's from growing up with 2 older brothers - I always wanted to play hockey with them and stuff like that.

And then there's my penchant for m/m romances :P.  That is rather helpful in my preference lol.
