There you go.  That's the one.  The one beef I have is the spread leg, slouch shuffle.  Dorian's default armor is already bulky and pads his waist hips and legs to look a bit chunky... and then he goes shuffling around the library like he has intense lower back pain.  The spread leg shuffle is even worse on the female models.  I have yet to think up a justifiable reason why they would build the bone rig this way.

It's all kinds of messed up, isn't it? :P

I'm struggling with my Adaar. He's the one romancing Dorian for (my) the first time. Don't get me wrong, I am finding a male Qunari to be super fun to play.

However, in almost every single conversation and cutscene, they chop off his head. So in most scenes with Dorian, I've gotten to see the most lovely exchanges Dorian has had with my Qunari's chin.

Then add in that creepy shuffle, and waa! It almost looks like he's hunching down, in an effort to keep them from chopping off his head again. Fight the good fight, Adaar!

Adaar is no little man.  Dorian has good reason for a bad lumbar.

Reminds me of a hilarious pair of comments on another board.  I placed spoiler tags for those wishing to avoid off-color humor.

Well...that explains everything. I will forever think of this, every time I see the shuffle.

Clearly this is the only logical conclusion.  :P

Makes perfect sense to me. I choose an Adaar for Cassandra, she has the hips for it. Dorian gets all my human lovings.

I shall endeavor to make the perfect human or Elf for Dorian in my next playthrough, if only to save his poor back. ;)

Dorian probably has lower back pain bc he is carrying not 1 but 2 books on his hips! And the one in the back swings a bit. Hope he's got tiger balm stashed somewhere.

Naw, I'm not convinced it's two books.  Maybe one book and the other is a collection of The Randy Dowager Quarterly or Studded Vints: News, Politics and Fashion in Review  He only looks at the pictures though.  Honest.

I really want to watch, but I haven't made it all through the romance yet! Liked anyway. Bravo, cheers, and props! :)

I've been thinking about that too. Take this scene for example:

[NSFW]

Spoiler

Like why did they even bother animating this when we can't see it anyway? Not that I'm complaining mind you. Maybe the developers knew flycam would be a thing and left it in as a nice surprise?

Maybe's it's too late at night and I'm just seeing things...but can anyone else make out the Inquisition eye insignia on Dorian's lower back? (Not his butt. Look away from the butt.)

You referring to the Thoracolumbar Facia?  Which is incorrectly sculpted, I just noticed.  Looking at the gluteal region just because you told me not to.

One thing that's not incorrectly sculpted is that fine Gluteus Maximus of his all right.

Hello fellow Dorian fans.  I am very carefully NOT reading thru this thread (yet) because I have just started the Dorian-mance and I want to let it unfold un-spoilerized.  However, I have a question that I hope y'all can answer.  I have completed "The last resort of good men"  and "one less Venatori".  After Last Resort, I chose the snarkie reply (something along the lines of "at least it wasn't boring".) so no kiss but immediately after that I got the cut-scene with Mother G. and her judgy judgement about undue influence from a *gasp* Tevinter. after which my quizzy goaded Dorian into kissing him.  Now, my question is, I have the dialog option which starts the romance "we should talk" (by the way, in my world only *bad* conversations start with "we should talk")This RP wise is not something that my quizzy would do.  He's more the build the tension til it explodes kinda guy.  Is this the only way to kick things off?  Main story wise I am right around "Wicked Eyes" or "Here lies the Abyss."

Anywho.  Thanks for reading.

It's the standard dialogue choice that leads to the other romance options.  I always thought it seemed a bit odd too but once you click through you'll see why it's rather neutral.

I'm no expert, but I'm almost through my first Dorian-mance playthrough and it was the only way I found to kick things off.  Mind you, my Inquisitor is the kind of guy that once he knows what he wants, he goes for it like a horse out of the gate.

Thanks for the responses.  I was just remembering the rival-mance with Fenris in DA2.  Hawke had pissed him off (her favorite pastime) and when he charges her in the courtyard of her mansion I was sure he was gonna rip her heart out. (She ripped his out instead).  No, "do you like me, wanna go steady bs.  Just straight to the bang.  Maybe it's a sign of my maladjustment in general, but I miss the Rival-mance.  "I don't agree with anything you say, but you're pretty.  Let's go. ;)

I'll just have to bite the bullet and head-cannon it later.

I've gone the Mage route twice, Templars twice, and honestly...the only thing that holds me back from choosing the Templars every single time is Dorian. Truly. I prefer the Templar quest line, and ending slide. There is a little perk they don't advertise - Ser Delrin Barris:wub:

But it's pure misery going soooo long without Dorian. :(

Ser Barris is a great character. His first name strikes me a bit funny though, Delrin is a brand name for a type of plastic that's used to make snowboard bindings and gears for electric motors.

There you go.  That's the one.  The one beef I have is the spread leg, slouch shuffle.  Dorian's default armor is already bulky and pads his waist, hips and legs to look a bit chunky rather than solid... and then he goes shuffling around the library like he has intense lower back pain.  Together it says "old man".  The spread leg shuffle is even worse on the female models because they are more slender.  I have yet to think up a justifiable reason why they would build the bone rig this way.

He's got a lot of shiny metal and a pair of heavy books on that outfit of his. Being hunched over a table or slouched in a chair all day would do a number on your back.

I understand your plight.  I for one, don't feel it natural for my Quizzy to make the first move but there's nothing for it.  He either does or he simply has to admire Dorian from afar, and player Mama isn't having that.

@ FenPhile - There are TWO ways to kick off the Dorian romance.

1 Inquisitor initiated kiss. This takes place in the Skyhold library directly after the tavern fades out. In choosing the  <3 option here your IQ steps toward Dorian and initiates the kiss. This is the more direct approach obviously, since Dorian can now see what your interest is.

2 Dorian initiated kiss. This happens during the Mother Giselle conversation. Here is the fun banter where you "goad" Dorian into kissing you. This second path has the  <3 icon description of "press this button to start the Dorian romance." However, since Dorian is the one to initiate here, you have to be a bit more assertive afterward so he knows what you want. The next time you talk to him you have another <3 option asking you to confirm the romance where your Inquisitor directly states his interest.

To avoid any bugs, after this I do suggest saving, going to another map, say Val Royeaux, and then returning to Skyhold. After that everything should be all set. Assuming your approval is high enough, there should be a messenger with another quest for you on the lower floor of the tower, near Solas.

IMO it's really the best to see both methods and then decide which is best for your IQ. They're both fun, but each has its own flavor.

Enjoy.

As an aside... I find it really difficult to draw out this romance for the funsies. If you manage to do that, kudos to you.

Hehe the books were already addressed on the last page.  And other theories. :)
