I really liked Dorian. His mustache was a bit "ewwwww" for me, but after hearing him and spending time with him I really could not care less of them. He is such a well-written and adorable character. He has the same charm for me as Zevran had.

Speaking of the mustache, someone totally needs to draw -- or maybe already has drawn? -- a fanart of him standing in the rain with a droopy mustache. You know that pomade or whatever it is would wash away after being in the elements enough.

 

Hahaha.  I've pictured that while standing in Storm Coast.  I thought, "he's using wax with a water seal, apparently."

I had a start on a painting of an afters party.  He was in the background with his VA, both having a nerd-gasm over a DIY mini-Hadron starter kit.  The mustache was combed down and hair restyled from what I remembered.  Was working out the other characters but per usual, never found time to finish it.  It's in the virtual scrap heap somewhere.

So someone will eventually make it happen.

I'm pretty sure he uses magic to do his moustache. And yes, pretty sure it can be used for such quotidian things since Sera once asked Solas whether he's ever pissed magic and he had to think about it before saying no so yeah. Magic is everywhere. Including especially Dorian's moustache.

 

This game also seriously suffers from the lack of being able to say 'Dorian, I mustache you a question.'

Well, I officially started the romance with Dorian, and got the nekkid scene. Oh sweet baby jesus, my ovaries. Yeah, I know, girl parts, but hot damn, that man is so amazing. Every time he whispers, shows his sweet brand of snark, or gets that look in his eye, you know that look, hnng.

 

I probably shouldn't even comment on it, as I haven't completed it fully, but seriously, how is his character and romance arc so well written, when so many of the others are...well, nevermind that. Wow. I'm trying to savor this as much as I possibly can.

I just finished my game with my male IQ Dorian romance.  I'm a bit.. sad.  I really do prefer to play as a woman.  But I want my Inquisitor to love on Dorian forever.  I CAN'T HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!  I WANT TO HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!!

I cannot bring myself to romance Solas.  I rolled a Dalish mage before my male Inquisitor with every intention of doing so.  I ended up romancing Iron Bull.  I just can't!  I keep trying to start a nightmare play through too.  But nightmare is so much harder than hard at the beginning levels. Ugh.  So much to do, so few trophies yet to get.  I actually enjoyed the IB romance.It's much less serious on the surface than some of the others.  But sometimes you need levity.

@ FenPhile - There are TWO ways to kick off the Dorian romance.

 

1 Inquisitor initiated kiss. This takes place in the Skyhold library directly after the tavern fades out. In choosing the  option here your IQ steps toward Dorian and initiates the kiss. This is the more direct approach obviously, since Dorian can now see what your interest is.

 

2 Dorian initiated kiss. This happens during the Mother Giselle conversation. Here is the fun banter where you "goad" Dorian into kissing you. This second path has the  icon description of "press this button to start the Dorian romance." However, since Dorian is the one to initiate here, you have to be a bit more assertive afterward so he knows what you want. The next time you talk to him you have another option asking you to confirm the romance where your Inquisitor directly states his interest.

 

To avoid any bugs, after this I do suggest saving, going to another map, say Val Royeaux, and then returning to Skyhold. After that everything should be all set. Assuming your approval is high enough, there should be a messenger with another quest for you on the lower floor of the tower, near Solas.

 

 

IMO it's really the best to see both methods and then decide which is best for your IQ. They're both fun, but each has its own flavor.

What are the conditions to get him start with the kiss (and avoid initiating the kiss myself)? I would love to "goad" him to kiss me.

Don't flirt with him after you bring him back to Skyhold after meeting his father, instead choose the friendship choice instead in that scene. Then right after, when Mother Giselle starts clucking at him, flirt with him during that scene, and he will kiss ya.

Oh, yes, Solas. Mr. "I'm responsible for *spoiler*, and probably for many other things, but I will be unfriendly to Dorian, because he was born in Tevinter." Because being from Tevinter gives you responsibility for all slaves in the world. Yeah, my love for him is infinite.

I believe the only requirement is not taking the 'start a romance with Dorian' option during the post-Halward conversation. Then the Mother Giselle Strikes Again convo happens and you can take the heart option there, and voila!
