He's tainted this thread enough, I'd say. Let's get back to Dorian! Do you guys know of any good Dorian fan fics?

I haven't found any Dorian fan fiction that really sticks with me.  Most are little one chapter stories that aren't the sorts of things I'm looking for.  The one fanfic I thought had promise for it's breadth of scope I found I couldn't continue reading because it was written in the 3rd Person Present.  I want to find that YA novelist who started this infectious trend away from 3rd Person Passive and throttle them hehe.  That's just my opinion.  I can't remember the name of it though.

No worries. ;)

I had some favorite authors on AO3 that wrote Fallout, TES, and DA fics; maybe some of them have some new stuff out. If they do, I'll be sure to share!

Yeah, sounds like you probably should stay away, then. :P

Also, maker help me, I read a couple Cole fics last night, and actually liked them.

Ooh, page 777!

If you haven't yet, I'd search Inquisitor/Dorian on AO3 and sort by kudos, there are a few decent reads there, though mostly still in progress. I haven't found anything mind-blowing yet, but I'm picky, and the premise being what it is, it's easy for me to just not feel someone's personal Inquisitor. Opinions may vary.

I remember Kudos writing some not-bad Mass Effect stuff.  I'm very picky as well.  I like large stories that don't follow the moment by moment of the game, are written 3rd or 1st Person Passive or Passive Remote, and while it's ok to have some smut in there, I'm not always down with the tiniest descriptive details.  I like to use some imagination :P  These are few and far between in fics the past few years.  I wont complain too much.  If I was on the warpath I'd remind myself that I should write something rather than just talk about writing something hehe.

Edit: I'm finding that same problem with Inquisitors.  Much is written about Adaar and Levellan, but my headcanon is male Treyvelian which is harder to find.  I find I can't feel these other inquisitors either.

Some of the best ones I've read didn't follow the canon story at all. Some have annoyed the crap out of me, with incorrect word usage ("vile" instead of "vial" of blood, for instance, arrgh), bad grammar, confused tense..., but if the story is engaging, I don't even notice that stuff anymore.

I'm finding a lot of female Trevelyan + Cullen ones. Yawn.

If you guys find anything that trips your trigger, regardless of Inquisitor make/model, please share?  :kissing:

Wait wait wait.. why would one EVER wait to get a piece of that hot hipster stache by making him pursue you?  Even before I knew of his orientation I was in love with the facial hair.  Once I rolled a male to romance him I was aggressive in winning his affection!  I might be a hipster.  I'm not, but I'm apparently a hipster in my facial hair preferences?

I'm always fine with my character being the assertive one regarding the start of a romance, but kissing Dorian right after the thing with his father is a bit of an odd situation.

I'm not so much the grammar fiend as no one is perfect but I do get beyond tired of Rouge vs Rogue.  Simply because it often seems the person really think it's spelled that way rather than an accident.  Tense is about the only thing that gets under my skin and even then if the story is really good I can ignore the speed bumps and plow through it.

My make/model is Dorian.  The Inquisitor doesn't have to be in it :)  My biggest favorite up to now was a Kaidan Alenko fic where Shepard wasn't mentioned until well over the halfway point.  It was basically his early military career leading up to ME.  By no means professional writing at all points but riveting in it's scope and detail.

Ahh.  Just remembered a Dorian story that I did read all the way through with some enjoyment.  It was called "The Magician" by JayRain.  I can't remember what board it was on but you might be able to google it.

For a Dorian/Trevelyan fic, Magnet by elidoo on AO3 is pretty enjoyable.

Since the handlebar mustache has been around since the facial hair was invented, I still resent the Hipsters trying to lay claim to it like they invented it :P

*reminds herself to write faster*

I've only started reading the fics so I haven't encountered many, and though one is sort of compelling, it squicks me a little with making Dorian a bit of a victim, so I hesitate to recommend it just yet.  Let me read a bit more.  I do have to say the writer does have quite a lot of character detail in there for all the characters and about Skyhold, etc.

I want to read something myself where he isn't beaten to a pulp and needs rescuing because we all know he's quite the mage and kicks much booty.

I can see that specifically.  But I seem to remember him saying he was going to go get drunk on the post mortem on that whole Dad thing.  I always try to get them to talk it out.  Did the option to zoom in for the kill as it were come up?  I can't remember, that was like 40 odd play hours ago. Am I mashing up my cut-scenes?

Well the thing is, after you kiss Dorian, he goes on to talk about drinking himself into a stupor, and I'm like "how about I help you forget allll about your father, maybe forget your name. . . Etc etc ;) " I do like the

After our convo in the previous days I took another crack at starting a Female Inquisitor.  Human since the elf is just too girly for me and the Adaar can't get Cullen, I've been told.  This time I tried making her similar to my own ethnicity to see if it will help me immerse.  Gave her lots of face tattoos too :P  I'm trying out this whole "Dorian is my best girl-friend" thing.  He and I can probably still talk about Cass behind her back...

Starting up a qunari playthrough.

I liked my Cadash/Dorian playthrough, with my dwarf guy growing a foot tall, shoving his face into Dorian's, and then shrinking back to normal size during the kissing scene. lol

To anyone who has romanced Dorian with a qunari:  Who does the growing/shrinking?   I assume Adaar will shrink by at least half a foot during the romance scenes.

I guess I really like to rp my inky.  Corwin is a flirt and a bit of a cad but I think he would see that Dorian would be embarrassed and vulnerable after the show-down with dad and he wouldn't want to take advantage.  Dorian's line right before you can swoop (not bad.  Swooping is *not* bad) in for the kill as it were is something like "what you must think of me" which i read to be embarrassment about showing way too much too soon.  I chose to have Corwin diffuse the awkward situation with a joke.  the "hey at least it wasn't boring" line.

Of course, if that had been the only way to kick things off, I would have swooped like no tomorrow. :P

And I agree.  Hipsters dont own the handlebar 'stach, but I deeply appreciate them bringing crazy facial hair back into fashion.

Here's a screenie from the "Last Resort..."

When I go shopping for furniture in Val Royeaux, I always bring Dorian because he's my Inquisitor's best friend, regardless of gender or origin.

Edit:  I forgot to mention he also happens to have impeccable taste!

Hard to read someone else's Inquisitor once you are immersed in your own.  Because I'm not used to how he looks I see amused until my eyes pan over to Dorian and see there is nothing funny going on.  That's a good shot of Dorian's serious side.

I love that shot of Dorian. The hurt and insecurity in his eyes as he looks at his father... As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. (And now I'm going sentimental.)

I enjoy the teasing back and forth until Dorian kissed first, but the animations there throw me off. The way the IQ stands with his arms folded during the kiss and seems more passive (plus the strange thing they did with the heights in that scene) doesn't work for RPing my guy. I think with another character it would work better for me.

This game I'd played it that they'd been flirting and teasing and been on the edge of kissing for quite a while, and Dorian's line about "you have to fight for what's in your heart" was Dorian both talking about what he's going through, and about testing my inquisitor to see what his reaction is. And his reaction is to agree, and kiss him! :P Works for me!

Don't flirt with him after you bring him back to Skyhold after meeting his father, instead choose the friendship choice instead in that scene. Then right after, when Mother Giselle starts clucking at him, flirt with him during that scene, and he will kiss ya.

Thank you. I guess I have to skip one flirting choice with Dorain. It is going to be difficult.
