Not to worry--I'll continue to call Dorian a Magister as well
#teambarbarian
Aww, your Quizzy looks like he believes him
.
Nah, that is just his "hopeless exasperation" face.
He's thinking, "Even after all we've gone through together, Dorian still can't say how he really feels. So he says the exact opposite and assumes I know what he means."
Also, I've rolled another female to be Dorian's bestie. I made her say that Dorian led her on with the flirting. But that she would be put out if he stopped doing so.
I will need to do that option at some point, just to see the look on his face. ![]()
Both paths seem character appropriate to me, since Dorian responds flirtatiously to the initiated kiss with the "playing with fire" line. I really love how they wrote him.
For my RP, before we had the mission w/Dorian's father, my quizzie had already gotten that flirting banter with Dorian, when he basically tells the IQ he finds him attractive, and you can respond in kind. (You're rather strapping; I could say the same of you). So in my game, I'd imagined they'd been flirting like this and coming oh so very close to doing something about it before the mission, which brings it all to a head.
I kinda like surprising Dorian by being the first to act. It doesn't feel like taking advantage of the situation to me. More like after all the flirting it's almost reassuring him that not only does the scene with his father not change my IQ's feelings, it makes him take the chance and show it. Plus, Dorian gets my IQ back by being the first to initiate in the bedroom. And I wouldn't change that for anything. That prowling walk he does when he comes in....

What I like about the first kiss (for my RP this game), is that it seemed more mutual, with both of them kissing rather than the IQ being kissed. I like how Dorian steps forward and puts his hand on the inquisitor's shoulder. I imagine once Dorian sees him leaning in, he responds in kind. For the second kiss, I would need a different RP'd character, that I could imagine would be so mesmerized or stunned by the kiss that he couldn't move his arms, and then kicks himself afterward for freezing up.
Both paths are really equally as good, just depends on how your RP is going.
I enjoy the teasing back and forth until Dorian kissed first, but the animations there throw me off. The way the IQ stands with his arms folded during the kiss and seems more passive (plus the strange thing they did with the heights in that scene) doesn't work for RPing my guy. I think with another character it would work better for me.
This game I'd played it that they'd been flirting and teasing and been on the edge of kissing for quite a while, and Dorian's line about "you have to fight for what's in your heart" was Dorian both talking about what he's going through, and about testing my inquisitor to see what his reaction is. And his reaction is to agree, and kiss him!
Works for me!
I agree that this could be played either way. Inky kissing first or Dorian. One of the things that I like about Bioware is that they leave enough room for personal interpretation. My Inquisitor isn't going to respond the way that yours will. No two characters of mine are alike. I usually start my character with a few background facts and then try to figure out how they would react to different events in the game.
My Qunari liked Sera, my Trevelyn cant stand her. So anyway, I wrote a little snippet of a scene sometime after the first kiss (Dorian kisses first) to illustrate why things might not be going well right at the start... Please be aware, I haven't written anything for years, so the prose is clumsy
any feedback welcome.
Well here is an interesting writing exercise and something that I didn't know would work out this way when I started.
I decided to write out the entire quarters scene just for my own gratification, including actual full dialog lines from the game (thanks Danaduchy). My initial idea was to write what going on in my Inquisitor's head for some of the dialog -- and of course to fill in some, er, blanks -- mainly because my other stuff has referenced it so many times that I basically just said "f it" and decided to go ahead.
I found that describing a pre-constructed scene and trying to keep it accurate (important to me in this case) while also adding some components was more difficult than fabricating a scene from scratch.

Great style and I fully suggest looking at the other Dragon Age stuff.
It really is! I found that out when I did a fic set in Awakenings, when Anders meets the Warden. In my story, I had them having known one another from the Circle. But since they don't show that in the cutscenes and I wanted to be completely accurate, I couldn't just have them say, Hey i know you!. Instead, I kept the actual words and actions and gestures completely the same, but had to fill them in with reasons and thoughts to why they would say those things when really they knew one another. It was like writing with puzzle pieces. At least most cutscenes give you little blank spaces you can fill things in, where they skip a small amount of time.
The scene with Dorian would be so interesting. You can actually see so much going on behind their eyes, so many thoughts. Interesting to bring those out and share them, since I know they would be different for each inquisitor/Dorian pairing.

Mmm, Dorian with toilet paper... Interesting.
I put Dorian in ring velvet a lot too! He looks good in deeper jewel tone colors and brighter colors like orange and yellow. Sometimes I coordinate my whole primary squad to match but not be matchy matchy. Armor tinting is the best.

I like him in orange or red. Something just screams "spicy" about it. Meow.

Dragon materials make some really cool-looking stuff. Well, not always, but that opalescent orange look is one of my favorites.

I'm a fan of the orange, but a lot of people here seem to hate it! I also like navarrite purple. Sometimes I'll go to the hissing wastes to kill gurns and farm navarrite since they both tint purple. Navarrite only ever drops in single quantities. I'd like to be able to tint with a color wheel like you can tint eyes. I think he would look great in turquoise silk. But I'm pro turquoise as a general rule.

I love the orange! But then, I love bright colors - anything from yellows to orange, to red, to pink, to blue, to purple, to...well, you get the point. Love them. Especially looking out my window at all the brown. Boring.
I do the same thing as you!
Pretty much as soon as I get to Skyhold, and can unlock the Hissing Wastes, my poor peon Quizzy is running around, dodging everything, just trying to get some Nevarrite. At that low of a level, I usually stalk the Red Templar camps a bit. Most of the time, if you just wait a moment, they'll be fighting Lurkers, Wyverns, Gurns, etc., and you can just hop in at the end for the spoils.
My first two Inquisitors wore Gurn hide/Nevarrite armors for quite a while. Dat purple.
And I agree, I'd love a color slider for armors. And hair.

Not a fan of that orange cloth, no. I prefer what dragon parts do with metal more-so. I also prefer Dorian in red or dark blue.

Ok, I give. I was looking for the answer online, but my search skills stink. What color are Dorian's eyes exactly?

Thanks! On my computer his eyes are seriously washed out, it's kind of hard to tell. Started a new PT with another Inquisitor today. Got really bored with my Cadash/Iron Bull PT.
Ah Dorian... ![]()
I watched a movie called Vampire Academy yesterday only because Ramon Tikaram had a small role in it (one scene to be exact). If I were to describe it, I'd say it was like a bad crossover fan fiction between Twilight and Harry Potter... But there was some magic, and RT played as a magister so... there is that. One of his lines were something like "Are you calling me a tool?" which made me laugh (seriously though, the mere sight of the man has me grinning from ear to ear). When the movie was over I went back and replayed his scene with my eyes closed, imagining Dorian as a Tevinter magister... lol.
I wouldn't recommend it for the movie itself (unless you're into Twilight), but if you're really desperate for some RT screen-time then by all means, watch it! The things you do for Dorian, am I right? ![]()
I love this fanart, my inquisitor would totally cuddle like this with Dorian ![]()

Read the book if you like YA/paranormal novels. So much better than the movie. FWIW, I didn't hate the movie. Went to the theater to see it (my birthday is in February and only bad movies come out in Feb so it's a tradition of mine to go see a bad movie around my birthday - VA, Hansel & Gretel, Jupiter Ascending). It helped that the theater I saw it in had a full bar which would put your drinks in plastic cups with lids, so you could drink while watching movies. So much easier than smuggling in wine like I usually do.
I have a friend who only likes certain actors as a characters. Like - she likes Theo James as Four in the Divergent movies but not Theo James as someone else. I kind of get how she thinks now. I really only want to associate the actor who read Dorian as Dorian and not "Minor character A".
I know you've covered this in the 781 pages of thread already but last night I was playing another Inquisitor and I have to say that I love that whole scene where he basically tells you that he's in it to the end with you. It's a very moving scene.
Because I'm a female and play a female in any game series I get the chance to I won't end up romancing him so my question IF anyone cares to ask (and I'll understand if you don't because 781 pages, hullo) is does that scene change if you're together?
It reminded me of the scene in LOTR (the movie, not the book) where Aragorn leans down and looks at Frodo when he knows that Frodo is going into Mordor alone and tells him, "I would have gone the whole way with you" and covers his little hand with the ring.
There is really that level of emotion there and I think the character is brilliantly written. I'm glad that for me he's not romanceable in a way because that's real deal friendship right there.
Like IRL if the **** went down my boyfriend HAS to be with me, we've said the L Word, we've had sex, we live in the same place (most of the time) so he's obligated or a jerk if the world is falling apart not to help me.
I had a breast cancer scare that caught me by surprise because of my age--statistically too young, and I have a chubby, short hobbity friend that I told because I couldn't tell my girlfriends or they would tell my BF and I didn't want to worry my BF, so my little friend went with me to the sonogram of what (thankfully) turned out to be just folded skin, but while we were there he held my hand and said to me, "Whatever happens, I'll go the whole way with you and buy you crazy wigs if you need me to".
That type of loyalty is rare in this world, but more than that the type of loyalty and eloquence just never happens. So few people know the exact right thing to say. My little hobbit, happens to be gay so he wasn't doing it to get sex off me, went with me to MY Mordor and I'll never forget.
Ahem...
I love Dorian.

I'm not 100% sure of the scene to which you are referring. Do you mean his friendship lines after the Mother Giselle conversation? If so, then yes, the lines are different for a romance path. It is basically the start of the romance and includes one of the two options that you have for starting the romance -- the other being the scene directly after the dad/tavern scene.
After Giselle leaves he will reference the rumors (to male/female, or well, romance/non-romance), but here is where the difference starts. If you are just friends he asks if the rumors (the general, non-specific rumors Giselle mentions) bother you. If you're on the romance path he says that the rumors are that "you are I are... intimate," and then asks if that bothers you, to which you can respond with the option that starts the romance (Dorian initiates a kiss here).
But yes, the friend path is very rewarding. It's done in such a way as to make it seem like having this friend is very important to Dorian, which is super nice. And you know... I'm one of those players that has to get the approval ratings up of most of my followers -- or well, I used to for DAO/2, but don't care as much with DAI -- so I've experienced the full friend path for most of them over the years. I realize that everyone has their favorite friends and their favorite romances, and perhaps it's just that the way DAI has done it with its approval system not showing the "friendship meter of doom" like previous games, reducing them to point collections, but this friendship really does seem very meaningful, truly far and above all of the others. I would say that my next closest person is Cassandra.
[edit]
Dammit, this just made me really sad that DG has left the series. He's written my favorite characters across all of the DA games, and DAI has two of the topmost ranking ones across all of Dragon Age. I'm pleased that he's getting to refresh his brain by moving on, but it is such a personal bummer for me.
