Haha, fair enough. :)

Ooh, I found it on the wiki:

The Serault glass is absolutely beautiful IMO.  I never use any other style for the windows.

There they go, like I said...

It's pretty, but I don't think I'll be able to get it, TLC just makes me go 'wut?'. Maybe I'd be more motivated if it had images of naked Dorian cherubs or something.

Does anyone here follow "Extra Credits" on Youtube? I love that series, and this episode was interesting. They were talking about the limits of romance in games this week, and for just about every shortcoming my response was (a very biased) "Dorian."

1) Games only deal with the start of a relationship

Hard to set Inquisition on a set timescale, but give the "life goals" talk, I think we can safely put Quizzy and Dorian into an "established relationship" bracket.

2) NPCs don't initiate romances

You might have to jump up and down waving your arms about for a bit, but you can get Dorian to make the romance official. Okay, so you have to set the whole thing up, but still. (And if that doesn't count, Anders can tick that box instead)

3) NPCs don't reject the player character.

This one will, if she's the wrong gender! And Dorian's one of several who'll do so.

4) Games don't do breakups

You can drive Dorian away if you behave badly enough. More interesting still is the "uncertain future" aspect of the whole thing with Tevinter, which you would think developers would avoid like the plague. Other characters in DA:I will break up with the player whether they like it or not.

It's a great ep of the webseries, and I am ridiculously biased. But with all the noise made over the DA:I romances, I was surprised it didn't get a mention.

Yep, they are really interesting :)

On this particular category I want to comment though. There was a panel on Romance in video games at PAX East this year and someone asked why they can't have relationships initiated by NPCs. Mike Laidlaw's literal response was "because players lose their **** over it" which I feel is partly in response to the player response to Anders... it was epic and loud :( Though he also made a really good point while some of it was because some men didn't like being hit on by another male, another aspect is there is a certain portion of the Dragon Age playerbase who don't want romance in their game at all. (I think he had a % on how many PTs never engage in a flirt or romance but I don't recall that atm) So by having a NPC who will take the first step it sort of forces an aspect those people don't want, whereas having it player driven gives the player control.

It's an interesting aspect to the whole debate I wish Extra Credits would have tackled. Of course just that subject could probably be a whole discussion on its own ;)

If those people on You tube think games don't do break ups, they should try the Solas romance.   After being punched in the gut by him and having no say in the matter whatsoever, I really appreciated being able to fight to keep Dorian.   I take all his comments post party with a pinch of salt; he's not going anywhere soon.

Mind you I do admire his courage for wanting to back considering if you rub the Magisterium up the wrong way badly enough they make you tranquil as punishment.   I'm pretty sure that when he asks Cassandra about the cure, she expresses surprise that they have tranquil in Tevinter and he assures her they do, that it is not just anonymous strangers but probably people he has actually associated with; which is why he is asking of course.      In the past he probably wasn't in any real danger because whilst he was viewed as a deviant, they probably didn't take him seriously enough, plus he had the protection of Alexius and his father.    Now it is known he has been involved with the Inquisition, even involved with the Inquisitor, I'm thinking they will be watching him far more carefully.    Mind you I've tended to try and maintain reasonably good relations with Tevinter, partly for Dorian's sake.   When Josephine says that the Archon likes cats, does anyone else start having a vision of Blofeld with his white Persian?

Can I present to you all some serious Dorian Side eye being thrown while my Quinquisitor is talking to the Dalish?

Just pick the Scholar as the Marquis, then make the Bard your lover and the Silent Hunter your bodyguard and you can't lose.

I won with maxed out Dignity and Prosperity plus zero Peril and Rumors of Revolution.  The Bard will boost your Cunning and the Silent Hunter will beat the peasantry into submission when they start to even think about revolting.

Silent Hunter made me think of the old WW2 submarine combat games of the same name. Then I had the mental image of a submarine beating down medieval peasants.

I should cut down on the coffee.

Tangentially Dorian-related, I was just going through my screencaps folder and I remembered this moment:

I went to fight Vinsomer, and the whole party died like idiots because they don't understand the concept of ranged combat, so I had to solo its jumping ass for ten minutes with my poor slow ss warrior. Then immediately as the dragon died a banter triggered (you can see in the scrcap it's not even disintegrating yet and my stupid companions are all still knocked out on the ground <_<), and this was Dorian's first line:

Since I always feel a bit bad killing dragons this really felt like a punch in the gut (and an 'awww, sensitive Dorian' moment)... for all of half a second before the rest of the dialog followed and I realized he wasn't talking about the dragon at all. :P Still, I thought it was amusing timing.

Question for female inquisitor characters:

After choosing the "You led me on option," and telling Dorian he can keep flirting with me, will I still be able to flirt with him for the rest of the game? Or do the flirt dialogues quit showing up after that point?

Will I still be able to flirt with him after entering a relationship?

Thanks in advance for the help. I love Dorian and even if I can't romance him I think that the flirting is such a fun aspect of our friendship.

Yes, you can still flirt with him after you choose that dialogue option, and I was flirting with Dorian even when i was in romance with Cullen =)

Thanks! That's great news. :)
Does the flirting last all throughout the game? And does he require high approval rating?

Sorry for so many questions. I just don't wanna mess up my playthrough.

The flirting options will appear in the cutscene dialogues with him, and I think you don't need high approval for that, afaik.

Oh, he just starts 'Are you sad she died?'

Nothing to do with the dragon at all, but sure sounded like it to me at that emotional moment...  ;)

At least he started talking immediately at the end of the fight and not the beginning.   The number of times I've stood there trying to ignore getting hit so I can pick up on a conversation because the two companions chose to start it just as the enemy attacked.   First run I think there was also a bug that meant I would dismount from the horse or arrive after a quick travel and people would be just finishing a conversation.    I think that has been fixed now because it hasn't happened recently but then again I can spend hours trekking around places like the Hissing Wastes not using the horse in the hope of some dialogue and yet they still only choose to do so when we stop to fight something.

I love the exchanges between Dorian and Vivienne; some of them are priceless but I'm disappointed that I've still to get most of the exchanges between Dorian and Cole.  (I've also yet to get several important ones between Cole and Solas)   Has anyone hit upon an area where the companions are almost guaranteed to start talking?

I can not get Cole and Dorian to talk at all in my current PT and it's annoying the crap out of me. Also Dorian is constantly starting to talk right as I zone somewhere which is equally frustrating :(

Edit for top of the page Dorian :D

Seems entirely random to me.  You might try the hissing wastes.  Since it is wide open you can see your enemies coming and generally they are few and far between.  So it might try to pop off conversations to fill the silence.  I seem to have better luck with some characters talking than others.  And if I use a party combo more often I tend to hear all their convo strings.

No, the Hissing Wastes is probably the worst for long periods of silence.    I run and run, then stop to look around and wait for someone to talk but nothing.   The only place they talk is in the various tombs when we are likely as not interrupted by random spiders.

I have to admit that Dorian, Vivienne and Cassandra just couldn't seem to stop talking in JoH, including getting some conversations twice and I'm doing another run now with Sera and she has started up with Dorian as well.    I don't think they are specific to that DLC because I'm sure some of the conversations with Cassandra and Vivienne have occurred in the main game, so may be they did make more conversation trigger points for the DLC.    However, I'm still getting the problem with conversations starting at the wrong moment.    Still I'm less bothered about just standing there and taking blows while I listen now since I'm that powerful.

I just miss being able to go somewhere safe and just walk around whilst my companions chat, like I used to do in the Kirkwall markets.   Val Royeaux would have ideal for this but sadly when you go there they don't talk at all.

@ Gervaise - I'm not saying that maybe they just don't like your Quizzy...I'm not not saying it either.   :P

j/k they do that to me all the time...grunting, swords clashing, music rising, me saying 'what did he just say?' One does start to wonder if they aren't doing it on purpose just to mess with them.  (Not me of course, because that would just be silly  )
