So, someone has made a mod where they're working on removing the shine from a bunch of people and they recently added Dorian. I personally won't use it as I don't like to use significant texture alterations, particularly of followers, unless the alteration is "fixing" something that looks legitimately bad (see my Fenris markings mod).  I'm not quite sure about this look for Dorian. I think it makes him look a bit older? And now I think he needs some lip gloss. Also, I think some of the romance scenes might look a bit off if your Inquisitor is still shiny, particularly if he has darker skin as mine does, if Dorian himself is less shiny.

Frostbite 3 has a tendency to make shiny things overly shiny. Realistic skin is tricky since all of the tiny layers and water content refract any light that reflects off of it. You can use a rendering technique called ray-tracing to simulate that effect but it's resource intensive.

Meh, they're all like that. It's also more pronounced on darker skin. As an oily person irl, I approve. lol...

Honestly the only issue I have with that specific mod is that it seems that it would make certain NPCs look obviously different. On the other hand, the entirety of Thedas needing some astringent isn't that good of a look either, but I've gotten used to it since everyone looks that way.

Hello Dorian thread - I have a small and hopefully not stupid question. Is it still possible to hear Cole's banter about the Dorian romance if you've already made Cole more human? I was getting plenty of banter between Cole and Dorian but hadn't reached that one yet - then I did Cole's quest and now I've stopped getting any banter between them at all. I'll keep waiting just in case, but does anyone know if it can still pop up after Cole's quest?

I used Cole A LOT, and always had Dorian in my party. And I never got any banter about my quissys relationship with Dorian. 
In fact the only banter I did get was in Jaws of hakkon, Cassandra commenting on Dorian smiling more.

I take Dorian and Cole everywhere. For my third I switch between Varric and Cassandra, but the other two are a constant. I also arrange the game so that I have the maximum amount of exploration available with both guys. I've heard every banter between Cole and Dorian except the romance banter, and it's driving me bananas.

 

I have a theory that, since Dorian's happiness is mentioned in the banter, that it might only pop if he and Cole have had the banter chain about his father before the romance is locked in (via quarters scene). BUT for me that banter chain is always way down the line and I've already locked in the romance by the time I hear it in the game, so I haven't been able to test my theory.

 

Perhaps other people in the thread who have heard it might be able to testify one way or the other.

Omg I just have to share this... I've carried on in this thread before about how insane I am over Dorian's hair... well someone made a mod to give him a mohawk. These crazy modders, I tell ya. I won't use this, but it does look like really nice work.

Banter runs off a timer that resets whenever weapons are drawn, it could be that the trigger for that banter hasn't had time to start yet. Either that or Cole is trying to go at least one conversation without causing poor Dorian to turn into a heap of sadness.

Thanks all - I did get Cassandra's banter about the romance almost as soon as it began, and I've had plenty of Cole and Dorian's others, the ones about his father etc. now they seem to have stopped, and I'm only getting Cole banters with the other people in the party. Maybe tonight I'll take out *just* Cole and Dorian and see if anything pops up. I've had no problems with banters firing in general (as I hear they're supposed to, every 15 mins or so) except in the Western Approach, which I hear is bugged. I was just wondering if doing Cole's quest meant I'd ruined my chances.

I had Cole with me throughout and eventually got every bit of dialogue between Cole and Dorian except the comment on the romance, although there was a period where nothing happened and I had to wait until JoH to get the final ones.     I made Cole more spirit but it didn't have any affect on getting the romance dialogue.     Not sure what you have to do to get it.      Even tried having only Dorian and Cole and no one else with me.     So I think it must just be pot luck if it triggers for you.

Dorian never told anyone about his heavy metal phase. He dresses in mostly leather and metal, he could be magical Rob Halford.

There should be more "hug party member" options. I'd be willing to be attempting it with Vivienne would result in approval loss.

On another note, my cousin just played through In Hushed Whispers for the first time and asked why we couldn't bring Felix along as a Skyhold NPC or romance option. Now I have the mental image of Overly Protective Dorian.

Awwww I can totally see it too. On the other hand, anyone who would fall for Felix can't be half bad themselves. He really is such a sweetie I can't see myself romancing him at all actually, he just seems too "little brother-esque." So yeah, I'm with Dorian on that one. XD

 

I actually think that Dorian's relationship with Felix is given too short shrift in the game. Before all the horrible mess happened, I imagine that seeing the relationship that Felix has with his parents, and with Dorian himself, was a stabilizing force in Dorian's life for several years. That little anecdote about the sweets just gets me every time. A bittersweet memory that is nice to have, yet sad to recall. (That's David Gaider for ya.)

My Adaar and Dorian have finally started dating! Dhiren completed CotJ so it took time for them to warm up but man I'm loving it so far! He encouraged Dorian to speak with his father during that mission and chose not to flirt afterwards. Went the route of letting Dorian kiss him after the Mother Giselle talk. Then they stalled out there for a little bit before he got Dorian's romance mission. He doesn't intentionally impose his size on folks for gain usually but that dweeb deserved it. Once it came to the quarters scene, I immediately knew they wouldn't be getting physically intimate. Dhiren's a gentle giant and a hopeless romantic and wants to court and sweep off feet. He's all for grand gestures, love notes, hand holding, and other equally syrupy stuff as Dorian would put it. He chose to tell Dorian to always hope for more and that they could be the example Dorian hadn't seen before.
