Matt Rhodes made some comment on his blog , he drew the epilogue.

Basically for some character he changed some stuff because in game he can't.It requires too much work to change an hairstyle or create a new style for a character just for a DLC.

Heading a resitence would take its toll, I imagine.

I feel like it should be canon that Dorian's moustache automatically levels up with each new stage of badass he reaches... kinda like a Super Saiyan?

Kind of like the Mario & Luigi games where raising your mustache stat increased the chance of getting crits and improved discounts at stores?

Yeah, even with Rule 63 in place, the idea of a female Dorian who's not a lesbian and had to face the same problems in Tevinter as her canon counterpart, seems to me like it'd be a bit of a disservice to the character.

I agree, I should have phrased my post better.

Just finished playing through Trespasser again with Dorian as my romance.   I must say that Vivienne has definitely gone up in my estimation.   She actually seemed genuinely concerned for my Inquisitor and was getting on really well with Dorian.    I had dragged Cole round with me for the main game in the hope of getting all his dialogue, which did apart from the one where he comments specifically on our romance - typical,  but I normally prefer to run two mages in my party so swapped in Vivienne for the epilogue.   She and Dorian make an awesome team together.

I had wondered whether it made much difference which dialogue you chose for the final decision: aggressive, pleasant or sad.    This time I chose top right (aggressive) and I must say I much prefer it as it pretty much summed up how I felt and what I had been wanting to say.  It also gave me a very positive vibe since it was clear I've no intention of letting other people do all the work.    I know I'm probably imagining it but I think the smile on Dorian's face just after, showed he approved.  I thought he would.

I'd love Viv to show up in Tevinter to gossip and slander the magisters with Mae and Dorian. The sass would be a thing of beauty.

If you actually go through all the banter with Vivienne and Dorian, she warms up to him in the main game (and if you talk to her, her comment will change to say that he's quite charming and she sees why he stole your heart).

Yea, Dorian really brings out all the best things about Viv, which is great because it's really easy to take her at face value and not look deeper which is a shame because she's quite complex. I really love the banter where she mentions getting a letter from a friend in Tevinter. I also definitely sometimes talked to her just to hear her say how charming she thinks Dorian is :)

If I ever get around to doing another  Dorian play through from the beginning, then I probably will keep Vivienne with us as much as I can, although I did have her round quite a bit on an earlier run and got practically every dialogue between her and Dorian, apart from the romance one.    I'm beginning to think there is a trend there.    Mind you the exchanges between Dorian and Cassandra concerning the romance have always triggered whichever one is being romanced.

I didn't get her saying how charming Dorian is because my approval wasn't quite high enough, so I got the alternative where she feels she doesn't know him enough to comment.   I presume you have to time it just right  to have her approval high enough before you click on her.

Another question which I don't think would spoil things for anyone since this is a Dorian appreciation thread.   Does anyone know what happens if you don't do his personal quest or you punch Dorian and he resolves to go back to Tevinter straight away?    I've only ever seen the latter once on You Tube and then felt guilty for even watching it.    Does Dorian not appear at all in Trespasser or does he turn up as an ambassador for Tevinter but then that's it and he won't offer to join you again as a party member?    Clearly it wouldn't affect Dorian's situation back in Tevinter since that doesn't really depend on his relations with the Inquisitor, even the bit about his father.

Another reflection; it would appear that Dorian probably picked up the habit of drowning his sorrows in drink from his mother.   Apparently every time he visited home when he went back to Tevinter, he found his mother drunk.

I did find it , I guess it happens with a Dorian who stays with a friend Inquisitor.

He says he went twice to Tevinter , he saw his parents , MAevaris and took care of Alexius business.

I also saw if you pushed him in the face :

The odd thing is that I seemed to get two different dialogues for my two friendship runs.   One is female who romanced Solas and just got the conversation about his mother being drunk.    The other who is male and continued to flirt with Dorian, even though in romance with Cassandra, got the additional dialogue about Tevinter being really boring without his friend and the only thing he misses is the wine.    I don't know if that is significant or if I just missed out on the additional conversation with my girl.  May be I chose the wrong dialogue option to get that loop.

I have to agree with Arlee, if Varric's little joke was in poor taste for a Dorian romance, with the Solas romance it is positively cruel.    Did the writers really not see it would make Varric look like an unfeeling d**k to even raise the subject without knowing how Lavellan was feeling on the matter?   And really Cassandra also had no excuse not the know that Lavellan hadn't moved on when both her left hand/spy master (Cassandra is Divine on my Solas run) and Grand Enchanter Vivienne are well aware of the situation, having both tactfully asked.

The only two I have done so far are my Fem Lavellan and my Fem Trevelyn and iirc my Trev is the only who got that line. Idk why race would make a difference though :/

And yea about the marriage convo with Lavellan... also amused me the two companions who inquired about how I was dealing with Solas leaving were Viv and Blackwall. Didn't expect that from either.

I forgot about Blackwall, well Tom now.   I think I didn't get that one until returning to the Winter Palace the first time.   Still it did bring out how much his character has reformed from that cocky young man who cared only for his own advancement, no matter who got in the way.   I loved the fact that he now travels Thedas bringing hope of redemption to others.

Strangely enough, it was the characters I never really warmed to at first who really came through in Trespasser.   There was Vivienne, who I could barely bring myself to talk to first run through on the main game, who was now genuinely caring not only for the Inquisitor but also I feel for Dorian.  I got the sense that she really respects him.  Then there is Sera.   I couldn't stand her initially with my female Lavellan but then I played my male Lavellan as looking on her a bit like an annoying little sister (or one of the younger upstarts in his own clan), so was able to tolerate her attitude a bit better.   Ended up eating cookies on the roof but didn't use her much as we were both archers.   So when it came to who to include with my female Lavellan on Trespasser, I decided I needed Sera rather than Varric (he was always getting knocked out in the main game) as my rogue and really appreciated some of her comments as we went along.   The only thing I regret is that we can't go back and get companion comments after talking to Solas - I'm sure Sera's would be priceless (and turn the air blue).    As someone who likes playing elves I never thought I would be agreeing with her that some people can be too elfy.

Sera also brought out for me the subtle differences in the end slides depending on whether you end the game merely tolerating her but having done her initial personal quest (my female elf) or actively friendly (my male elf) and I gather there would have been another one if the latter had agreed on joining the Jennies, plus also presumably a further one if you didn't do her personal quest (or would she not return at all?)    This is why I was asking about the situation with Dorian if you are neither a lover or a good friend since that is a situation that would never arise in any of my games.

I felt Dorian's reaction was interesting if you choose the heart icon when going in pursuit of the Qunari as Solas'  romance.   Wasn't expecting that but I do kind of respect him for it.    My girl really is messed up where Solas is concerned.

Nah, don't worry, I understood your meaning before.

It's odd that we hear so little of Dorian's mother and their relationship, we barely know anything really about her, save for that she hates Halward and that their marriage was arranged, unhappy and entirely political. I suppose we can infer from this that Dorian and his mother aren't close, or at least not to the same degree that Dorian seems to have been towards his father before Halward betrayed his trust?

There are odd snippets concerning his mother, like in his conversation if you take him to the ball at the Winter Palace.   She sounds as if she was a bit bossy and probably given the task of teaching him the social graces.   I believe there is a conversation with Cole (or someone), though I've never heard it where it is mentioned how she taught him deportment.   We had a discussion way back about how poised he is when he walks, like something that was driven into him and is now second nature.   It made me grin at the end of Trespasser when he is standing with the Inquisitor and suddenly he slumps his shoulders (for obvious reasons he is probably feeling a bit dejected) and I heard an imperious woman's voice running through my mind saying "Don't slouch, dear".     The fact that he could let go the image like that seemed to me to indicate he has finally shaken off the pervasive influence of his parents, trying to live up to an impossible ideal and feeling guilty about it when he doesn't.

Then there is the other reference looking out over the river in the Exalted Plains when he recalls his mother taking him boating, or as he put it the servants/slaves took him boating while his mother watched from the shore drinking.

By Andraste's hair butt crack! I've actually been waiting for body hair since Inquisition was released. Alas, I cannot live in a world where Cole and Solas have body hair. Even if I never have to see it. Knowing it exists inverts my reality.

Okay what would a female Dorian be named? Since Dorian is one of the church modes I shall name her Lydian. Also make be sad that none of his family is name after the other modes. Yes I am a music nerd.

Dorian is actually a unisex name. I'm going with the idea that Halward and Lady Pavus could only agree on one name so they covered their bases.

You're glossing over multiple important details in his interactions with a romanced Inquisitor.

Spoiler

I just now finished the DLC and am finally able to browse forums and such again. There were so many times during this DLC where I just sat there gasping with my mouth hanging open -- it was awesome.

Not really sure how spoilery any of this is, so...

Spoiler

Also... as I said, I avoided anything Bioware related until I finished the DLC. I had to do a completely new "perfect" play for this patch and heading into Trespasser. I'm sorry to report that the post-game dialogue bug is still present. I tested it by doing a hard save at the party, talking to him at the party, then at post-game, and a repeat of the process when not talking and his dialogue still seems to be "incorrect." However, given with how it plays out in Trespasser, it seems that it doesn't really matter as far as that is concerned. But I still find it irksome as that should not be dependent on talking or not talking at the party.

At any rate, I was quite pleased with the way the game ended.

Out of likes QQ

But yay glad you finished and are around again :) I feel pretty much the exact same way as you. I'm super procrastinating about doing my last pt (which is the one I consider my cannon state) because after I do that it'll all be over :( Also I can't decide what my Elfy Templar will do with the Inquisition. I'm sort of leaning towards disbanding but idk :/ Although the thought of him visiting Dorian in Tevinter is problematic/hilarious.

Oh also, I think it was this thread someone mentioned about not having banter during Descent but I thought I remembered having some. I recently just did that DLC on my Elf Templar to get ready for Trespasser and I realized during it there was no companion banter while running around (it was all the dwarves and sometimes a companion would interject). But I always finish the story part pretty quickly and then run around down there getting all the things I bypassed and doing all the expeditions. It's during this time where I get pretty much constant companion banter. Every banter I kept trying to get but could never get in the main game fired. So I'd say if there is a specific banter you never got but wanted try running around there post main storyline some :)

^ Even in my perfect play where I ran around all the maps for hours I still never got the Cole romance banter to fire. I'm really starting to think that you have to have had the banter series about Halward before locking in the romance in order for that to trigger, but I've never heard from anyone who has gotten it during a play, so I have no idea. Also, that banter series usually fires pretty late into the Cole/Dorian friendship for me, and waiting that long would mean I'd have to progress far into the game before locking in the romance, which I don't want to do. I suppose one day I may have to try abusing the banter trigger in Cheat Engine to test out this theory.

Related, I liked the conversation triggers in the various Trespasser locations. Those were quite nice, and I just adored the romance ones.
